I think your advise on Fire I buildup to AF3 is shaky.

My testing reveals you should go directly to a hard cast of Fire III. This immediately gets you to the AF3. Fire I is 2.5 sec cast for 319/638 mana. Fire III is 3.5 sec cast for 532 mana. So you will spend 10 sec and 2233 mana getting to AF3 (unless you snag a proc, which I concede but it is random). Fire III first, get you right into AF3, for 3.5 sec cast and 532 mana.

Lets say AF is a 10% potency increase for each stack...

Fire I First rotation

1st Fire I - 150 + AF1
2nd Fire I - 165 + AF2
3rd Fire I - 180 + AF3
4th Fire I - 195

Total Potency 690 in 10 sec or 69 dps Potency per Mana - 2233/690 = 3.24 ppm

Fire III first rotation

Fire III - 220 + AF3
Fire I - 195
Fire I - 195

Potency 610 in 8.5 sec or 71.64 dps Potency per Mana - 1768/610 = 2.9 ppm

As you can see Fire III is better then Fire I to a potency to mana standpoint and from a DPS standpoint.

The only thing that is unknown is Fire III proc. Which if you get with your first cast of Fire I on the AF build up would make rotation I better, it is luck then. I would rather guareentee my opening then rely on chance to make my rotation sound. I use Fire III proc as a DPS booster rather then a /roll to get into max DPS form.

Out of interest, I went to a training dummy, started a parser, then proceeded to do a set of tests on both Fire I spam vs Fire III. I did this by doing Thunder II > Fire I x Firestarter until I would Blizzard III (and still have enough MP for Thunder II, though that was never an issue) 10 times, then testing Thunder II > Fire III > Fire I x Firestarter until I would Blizzard III, same conditions. No Thundercloud procs were used, it was just there for MP reasons.

Given the random nature of our DPS (crits possible on our highest burst damage, procs or no procs for days), it's hard to gauge which method is better without hundreds of tests to go against. However, though it seems like more or less both methods give similar DPS, Fire III as a starter on average made me go OOM much faster, sometimes so much so it infringed on my Thunder II/III DoT still being active and forced me to clip the DoT or do a worse attack in its place, lowering my overall DPS.

My advice? Use Swiftcast on Fire III as your first Fire move :)

Question, I see you go from Fire to Blizzard III, I assume this is WITH the use of transpose? Also, agreed with swiftcasting fire 3. I also open with thunder 2 and let Thunder 3 out when thundercloud procs since Thunder 3 just takes a LONG while

When in AH3, Blizzard III (and all ice skills) have a much cheaper MP cost and more importantly a much quicker cast speed. This lets you go from AH3 > UI3 and vice versa seamlessly and is the basis for the BLM rotations.

So your suggestion, skip the conversion and just go Blizzard III + scathe?

you should try opening with blizzard 3

something like: Blizzard 3 -> Thunder 2 -> Fire 3 -> Fire 1 -> procs/Fire1 til under 1.1k -> Blizzard 3 -> Thunder 2 -> Fire 3 -> Fire 1

^what happens with this rotation, is that you get the hidden cast speed buff from UI3 while casting Fire 3, but due to the delay in hits/buffs/debuffs registering with this game, you retain the UI3 buff when you start casting your first Fire 1 so it's also cast faster than normal (about one second) - but midway through your Fire 1 cast the game registers that you've cast a Fire 3, and applies the AF3 buff to you - giving you the full damage bonus on your first Fire 1

this is referred to as double dipping, your initial Fire 1 receives the bonuses of UI3 and AF3

also, don't ever ever ever bother casting a second Blizzard spell after your Blizzard 3, it will always be a dps loss, either follow it with Thunder 2(gives you enough time to regen to full mp), or if you had a thundercloud proc towards the end of your burn phase don't bother reapplying Thunder 2 as you should've applied a Thunder 3 with your proc, so just follow the Blizzard 3 with a scathe(incurs global, also enough time to get full mp) before going into your Fire 3 -> Fire 1

also also, you should never hard cast Thunder 3 on a single target - there's a bit of an argument for using it on trash packs if you're casting it on multiple mobs, but single targets Thunder 3 should be reserved for procs only.

also also also, you shouldn't be using transpose at all in your single target rotation, Blizzard 3 effectively replaces it.

aoe/trash packs is a different story, you can find uses for convert/transpose/flare/all kinds of stuff

Just tested this rotation a bunch of times, generally was slightly lower DPS than the Fire I or Fire III method. As I said before though, even ten tests are far too low to get a good feel for DPS with BLM rotations due to our proc and big damage critical nature.

My Blizzard III less Rotation.

Thunder II -> Fire III -> Raging Strikes -> Fire I / Fire III proc (last Fire I when mana => 1k) -> Flare -> Convert -> 1x Fire I / Fire III proc -> Flare -> Transpose -> Thunder II ->>>

This takes 0-3 seconds to replenish mp for thunder II, by the end of thunder II / Fire III cast MP is full. Flare is our strongest spell, y u no use?
