Chocobo Companion (Defender spec)

Currently I only have my Companion to level 3, but does it get better. It doesn't have that much for HP and it ability over all to hold hate is Horrible. So is it worth continuing to level it in defender spec or should I switch it to healing or DD spec when allowed.

While your chocobo doesn't have a lot of health, he takes about a fifth of the damage that you would take, so he lasts a lot longer that way.

However, I have heard that the Defender spec sucks pretty bad right now, so I'd go Attacker.

Just stick with Defender for now, as you cant re-spec your chocobo.

Currently you can only max out 1 job. If you change it to healer or attacker now, you won't be able to max the skill set. Choose wisely.

In the future we can re-spec our feathered friend, still waiting on an ETA for it though, but a dev has confirmed it.

I recently got my tank choco to rank 4 and got the 2nd tank ability. I hoped with two abilities to use he would actually use one in the first 10 seconds of a fight. WRONG!


I tested it out on my BLM by pulling a mob with thunder and then one scathe. I didn't cast another ability. I just waited to see how long it would take him to pull aggro. It took him 15 seconds.

15 seconds for a rank 4 defender stance chocobo to generate the same emnity as one thunder and one non-crit scathe. It's mindboggling how bad he is. Can you at least make him OPEN with a provoke type move? Or maybe just one of the tank moves that he already has... I've never seen him use a move until 6+ seconds into a fight. I could probably deal with this if I could send him to attack the next mob early but I have no control over him.

I really wish it was like Carby, you can initiate with it that way it gets enmity from the start and can hold it instead of this taking 10 second to do anything, lol.
