Hi,
I have just got to the "it's probably pirates quest" and have tried to find partys to join but it just seems empty. I'm from the UK but on an american server (so maybe time differences) but obviously can't transfer to another server yet.
Do i have to complete this quest to move the main quest on?

Yes sadly, you have to complete Sastasha to progress through the story (and that takes you to two more dungeons after that).
Unfortunately, being a DD class (THM), you're going to have a harder time finding parties - if you were a healer or tank class you would find it easier to fill a party in Duty Finder. Still, don't give up hope just yet! You'll get through it eventually! :D
It's part of the main quest, so you need to complete it to advance the story.
It can be frustrating as a dps to get parties because there are so many dps competing for the same tanks and healers. Make sure you're in duty finder, try to join an FC that runs low level dungeons, and try to form groups on your own, too. Also keep in mind that you don't need to stand around waiting for duty finder ... after you register as a dps, you can change to a crafting class or even go do other quests while you wait.
You could also change to a healer or tank. They usually have shorter queue times. Nothing stops you from changing back to dps after you get through the story.
make sure you click all language when queueing and maybe if you doesnt care about the loot and possiblity of getting bad group, check "join in progress"
Yes, it's a required part of the story. In fact, there are going to be three group dungeons in a row (Sastasha near Limsa Lominsa, then Tam Tara Deepcroft near Gridania, and Copperbell Mines near Ul'dah) that are all required as part of the story. Later on, there are others as well, but these first three are designed to ensure that everyone gets at least some basic practice in how to work together with groups.
As for getting into a group with a DPS class, if you're in a good FC your best bet is to ask them for help. Plenty of players will heal or tank for any new FC members who need people to group with, especially on these dungeons that are required for progression through the story.
Otherwise, pick a day that you'll be online for quite a while and add the dungeon through the Duty Finder, then go on about other things until you get the notice that a group is ready. (If you go that route and are on a PS3, however, be aware that once the DF notifies you a group is ready, you have to be able to very quickly stop whatever else you're doing to acknowledge it and enter the dungeon. The PS3 controls can be a bit finicky on being able to stop other actions or close other windows without exiting that DF notification window at the same time.)

Thanks alot for the reply. I have tried your suggestions with Language etc and that helped getting in but now finding I'm being stuck with people who are a waste of time and quit lol.
I think I'll wait until I can transfer from A USA server to a UK server to see if that helps (Being in the same time-zone and all) :)
