Hasty Hand failure rate

The Hasty Hand skill is very useful, but the failure rate is way too high when you are doing an easy synth. For example I was just doing some Quicksilver (a very easy synth can be sone by rank 1 Alchemist) on a character with rank 44 Alchemy and I got 3 failures in a row. Fortunately they were 50% failures, not 100%, but it is still too many.

The object (I thought) of Hasty Hands was to do complete the easy synths on high rank classes but very few people use it because the failure rate is too high. Can it be looked at and perhaps lowered when you are so far above the synth?

From my experiences, I don't see the problem. I use it mostly to turn fish into shards. At Rank20ish alc, I don't have any higher failure rate than if I mash the button on bold or rapid. Though mashing the button on standard is by far the easiest way to guarantee success, I definitely end up with more successes in less time on hasty hands - which to me seems exactly what it its supposed to do. I don't think its there to provide instant completion so much as it is to provide equal completion in far less time.

I wouldn't mind the fails so much if they weren't stupid. The 50% fail you can usually recover from but the 100% fail is retarded. That should be removed.

But since we have people complaining about synthing speed and wanting some recipes to be instant perhaps making hasty hand a 100% success rate on synths more than 10 ranks below you wouldn't be a bad thing.

Hmm. Maybe not 10 levels below you. Keep in mind, eventually the level cap will be raised; anything like this implemented now could cause two problems; making high level synths too easy later, and causing too much outcry later on if it has to be gimped. Perhaps a happy medium. Start low; say, put a hard cap on the the stuff that has 100% success. Say, rank 20 items tops, when 15 ranks above the level of the recipe.

Then, the system could be scaled up if it works. If its not enough, you can raise the cap or lower the restriction from 15 to 10 levels. Likewise, as the level cap increases judgements can be made about increasing the recipe level cap.

The trick would be balancing it to the point where its not the exclusive purview of the highest level crafters - its might not be a good thing to give them a tool that is biased in their favor, allowing market control unavailable to others.

Well at rank 20 I didn't have a problem with the failure rate, but I am about 40 ranks above the synth. If I was to put a weight on the enter key and go make a cup of tea I would only lose about 20 durability, I shouldn't be getting multiple failures. After posting I carried on and got more failures including a 100% one.

I agree 10 ranks is too small a gap, perhaps even 20 is too small, but 40?

Well considering 39.5 or something is half the SP to 50 it's not that bad a thing if it were 10. Maybe 20 would be a better figure however.
