Race Selection
I just wanted someone to clarify one or more specific points regarding the starting stats and their relation to end-game roles; specifically tanking.
Before we begin, here is a summary of what I already know:
- I know that, at most, the stat difference between races should be ~5
- I feel that with most MMORPGs (Excluding FFXI) gear and augments usually mean more than base stats (OPINION)
- Most people say choose what you think looks best
- With how the stat system rounds numbers and places them into whole number tiers, +/- 5 is likely to make no real impact overall
Those are all valid points and well placed opinions or facts, but I still worry about the one uncontrollable and unpredictable element associated with selecting the non-optimal race you find most visually appealing, which is the social impact and restraint imposed by an overall uninformed community.

I will be paying for my 30 day subscription soon and that means I will get one free chance to select a new race without sacrificing my existing work. I primarily play a tank and enjoy the visual aesthetics of Lalafell.
What are your opinions regarding the social impact of selecting a truly non-optimal race? For example, while mathematically base stats should have little to no real impact, especially later on with statistical inflation, but do you believe some individuals may decline you as a tank because you are "non-optimal"?
HM Ifrit is a shining example of why my overall concern is valid. Most everyone knows that you can complete the fight without a stunbot. However, the vast majority of players want the path of least resistance and have made it a social requirement before making any serious attempts.
So, without being too verbose, do you all think there might be an actual social impact (with a negative effect on my end-game experience) of selecting non-optimal base stats in exchange for an aesthetically appealing character?

When forming your educated opinion, please ignore specific variables like player skill and things of that nature, this is a social question at heart. I have been main tanking cutting edge end-game content since the sleeper event in EQ1, so I don't feel that player skill is even worth factoring in since I tend to be in the upper echelon of this specific variable.
Thank you in advance for all of the shared opinions and please do not attempt to belittle me for making a new thread. I realize there are other topics, but none of them touched on the specific issue(s) that I have presented in my thread.

Let give the answer to your TL: DR post... NO ONE CARES what your race is. Even the most insane min max, retarded hur hur Relic + 1 weapons for CM FC's out there on binding coil part 4-5 do NOT give a flying cow what your race is in relation to your class.
I have yet to see somebody refused entry to ANY FC base on race or any instance for that matter. And I've met a lot of elitists.

The differences in racial points are so minimal that it literally never matters. My Culinarian isnt magically making more food just because I have a bit extra Piety as Lalafell.
-
No one cares. I've never once seen anyone comment on any race playing any class. Ever.
-
Highlander followed by Sea Wolf - you get roughly 15-45HP over other races, depending on which other race you consider.
It's really rather pointless.
-
If you really care this much
Choose either Sea wolf Roegaden (AKA Galka) or Highlander Hyur
They are both possessed highest VIT among five races which is most important stats for Tank
End of the story

Unless you're an extreme min maxxer then race will not matter at all. We have a lala pld, cat pld, and highlander pld. They all get beat in the face and they can all keep threat and do the job needed that's all that matters. I know you don't want to take in variables such as skill but honestly that's the only thing that seperates them.
