So, the final boss, managing the add's...often the role falls on me, as a SMN. For some odd reason, I horribly suck at this. Do well at everything else, cept killing adds. When I run with a Dragoon or someone else who doesn't mind, the add's die quickly. Any idea what I can do to make this flow easier?
Are you having your pet attack the adds too? SMN's burst damage is pretty nonexistent without charges for Fester, but I'm not sure how reliable it is to kill the adds as I believe they will probably spawn faster than you can Aetherflow. You might just have to ask the group to give the responsibility to another DPS while you stick on the boss as DoT spells are great damage on stuff like bosses that last a long time.

every time I do WP, it's always either a BLM or a DRG that kills adds. When I ran with my friend (who's a DRG) I instructed him on how to kill the adds and to make sure he uses Focus Target to keep count of Rancor.
At lower teirs of gear it's better to have burstier classes on adds.
Once you get higher teirs of gear you can essentially do this as summoner easier than any other class. You just wait for the small tonberreys to be around the boss / tank (it's best if the tank maneuvers the boss a little) and then you cast Bane followed by Fester. It should be enough to take out the adds pretty quickly, but you need to make sure it's positioned well.
This might require some gear on your part and the part of your tank.
I've done the adds once as SMN awhile back when I was still in AF, and it was all I could do to not run out of mana and kill them fast enough (had spam a lot of Ruin2 which is hell on mp). We won, but it was an ordeal for me. I did another run where a DRG did the adds and it went great. It doesn't have to be a ranged dps, just someone with good burst damage that can get the 3-4 tonberries that you need dead within the right timeframe.
One thing that helps is for the tank to start kiting the boss and trying to avoid the adds toward the end of the fight where you're burning him down. They walk fairly slow.
I've done a fairly good job on the adds as SMN in most of my runs in WP and actually prefer doing it.
I would use Garuda-egi and command it to attack an add from across the room, while I just dot up the ones on the other side(2-3), then using Ruin II and Energy Drain on the one with the most health while kiting, seemed to work well in most of my runs. Think the trick is to keep an eye on not killing too many of them at once and time the dot ticks right.(Mostly just Miasma and Bio
