Tried and tested solution for RMT shout/yell/tell spam

Before starting Final Fantasy 14, I had been playing Final Fantasy 11 since it was released for the Playstation 2 almost 10 years ago. In 11, there is a chat filter (can be turned on and off) that is constantly updated. The filter is called "Shout messages deemed as spam" and "tell messages deemed as spam". These filters were and still are designed to block anything that looks like a messege from an RMT. For years they have worked almost flawlessly. In 11, I get maybe....one RMT tell a week at most with the spam filter turned on. I have also not heard of any non-RMT messages being blocked with this tool. This is clearly an effective filter that has been been built and updated for the past 5 something years.


Why not just copy and paste this filter into 14? It would stop about 99% of the RMT spam cold.

Or maybe there is some technical hoo-haa that I don't understand which makes it impossible to do this. Just a suggestion.

FFXI's spam filter is not what it used to be. I had /tells a week ago from brNsale.cNm and the same spam with the same obfuscation was still arriving yesterday. Yes, SE got a good grip on RMT spam in XI after the dire state the economy was in over the infamous Christmas 2005 period, but like many other things it seems to me the STF has largely fallen into diuse, certainly their presence is notably absent in XIV.

The fact SE can't even implement a spam throttle that works, or copy the code they have in XI int XIV for filtering seems to show how much they're trying to stop it. They seem to have forgotten the lessons of Xmas '05, economies are already being destroyed in XIV in the same way, made worse due to the tele-bots used for farming mats like Fleece which are critical for leveling Weaver; same as the pos-hacking bots ruined XI's gathering markets for so long.

I would be happy with a simple right-click -> blacklist option. It would be so trivial to implement, I really hope it's in the next patch/update.

spammer from tell are easy to blacklist, just type "/blist add <r>" (without quotes) or make macro skill for it
