This menu needs to disappear during combat

I use a gamepad, and I'll often double click on a player when trying to heal them and this menu pops up. While this menu is active I can't use any actions on my hotbar. Sometimes it takes me a few seconds to realize this has happened and the tank dies simply because I think I'm pressing my cure button but I'm actually trying to send someone a /tell ...

Please make it so this menu does not appear during combat. Thank you! :)

r u using a PC to play the game? if your using the PC You really should stick with mouse and keyboard and instead of using right click on the mouse you left click it and that menu does not appear or stay up.

Unless he'd prefer to play on a gamepad, which is perfectly understandable, unlike forcing someone to play a way they dont want to

I get this a lot also, usually because I hit "X" on gamepad for an ability just a split second before pulling the trigger. What I would suggest is to try the setting for Toggle crossbar instead of pull/hold. I havent tried it though so it may be a pain since you are using dpad up/down to select party members, you would have to toggle off everytime you need to change target. Best solution would be like you suggest, disable the menu during combat...

This also happens often if you play Scholar on gamepad. Say you have the tank locked as your main target, and you go to use Sacred Soil, when you confirm the area you want the spell to be cast in, because you still have the tank locked as your target and it's not a mob npc, that menu will pop up when you hit the confirm button.

The menu pop-up on confirm with player characters is kind of redundant since the menu will also come up if you hit the map button while you have a player targeted.

Agreed. This really does kinda annoy me on my scholar. I play on ps3 and I get it all the time. They really do need to remove it/ hide it while in combat.

+1 again. I've adjusted well (and customized) to nearly every aspect of using the gamepad quickly and accurately, but this is the one thing that I still gets me.
A UI checklist for which pop-ups can appear and when would be excellent. As a quick example:

Pop-up Menus
Inventory items - {Always}/{Only outside combat}
Armory items - {Always}/{Only outside combat}
PCs - {Always}/{Only outside combat}
etc.

Agreed that it is especially pesky with Scholar.
