Manual Use of Chocobo skills?

Alrighty! So as you can tell... I'm new. been enjoying the game the last few weeks, and finally got around to getting the companion. Now ive tried the heal spec, its rank 1, bad idea or not half the time people don't know how to heal during a fate! anyways, I've unlocked the first heal, and was wondering if there was a way to use it manually, not just depend on the choco to use it. Can I add it to a hotbar? or do I need to just hope that it doesn't let me die? I've tried all forms of click and drag, and such, maybe I'm missing something?

There is no way to have the Chocobo use skills manually, but you can stick him in Healer stance to make him prioritize it.

Choco Regen is a weak heal over time, so it is likely that the Chocobo just won't use it if it is already on and it is a weak Regen effect as it is. If you keep leveling up your chocobo in the healing role, however, he will get direct heal spells that are more potent and he will use as needed as they don't have a status effect attached to them.
