Black Mage Sanctuary - A Guide to DPS

Does this mean you no longer should use pentaflares? I was just wondering what would be better for AoE'ing. F3>F2x2>Flare or pentaflare.. Sorry if this has been answered..

Multi-flaring relies on having MP cooldowns like max ether and convert. It changed a long while back where you couldn't flare from Ice into Fire, get a tick with good timing, and then flare again. Generally speaking, you want to pump out a flare every time transpose is up.

Thus, F3-> F2x2 > Flare. Without spellspeed this is 3.5 + 6.0 + 4.0, or 13.5 seconds of casting. Assuming you get lucky mp ticks, you're constantly casting between transpose.

Ahh. So if Flare has 10 second duration..so every time you cast another(13.5 seconds later) the previous flare would be over. Well that is a bummer. I just started thaumaturge and was looking forward to seeing 5 flares at once. Thank you very much for your help.

It's also possible to do F3 - F2 - Flare - Transpose - repeat without any downtime, but I'm not too sure about the math on that one. I could imagine there being a breakpoint on mob amount where either 1xF2 or 2xF2 is better. Or maybe not. Too lazy to excel.

I don't think you could ever do five Flares in a row, anyway. Four was the highest with mana tick, Convert and pot. I guess there's technically Ballad, but you'd've needed two ticks of that to get enough mana back in the day, and even more now.

Back when Flare was much stronger it was still suggested to do Flare > F3 F2 F2 > Flare loops, so I don't imagine you'd want to do F3 F2 Flare unless the Flare's the killing shot.

I've never tried this but I believe if you had a BRD and MCH in party, using Battle Voice and Hypercharged MP restorations, you could infinitely Flare. It sounds sick on paper until you realize you're missing out on BV Foe's and Hypercharged 5% buff, and DPS losses from the BRD and MCH, to do so, but still an interesting concept.

900 or so mana from BV/charge Ballad tick sounds like quite a lot. Not that I've even paid any attention to how much the normal tick is now.

BV Ballad is 530 MP per tick, so I can believe it. I believe Sleigh meant having BRD AND MCH in the party at the same time, both using their BV/Hypercharge Ballad at the same time.

What should my accessories look like if I don't do raid content? A mix of Alex Story and Eso or just full upgraded Eso?

Another issue with F3 - F2 - Flare I failed to mention is that if you don't get the instant mana tick, you spend more time doing nothing compared to 2xF2 - Flare

Speaking of mana ticks, can we please get a fix on that we randomly don't get two ice ticks when doing the AoE rotation? Nothing is more frustrating than ending up with sub 3000 mana after F3 when it worked just fine for the last 10 times during that run and nothing changed between them.

Just go with what has the higest INT pretty much. You could also try getting lucky with Diadem drops.

Do they even stack? They're kinda the same thing, so I just automatically always assumed no, without giving it a second thought. There's also the issue of Flare cast time being longer than server ticks, making you wait two seconds between the casts anyway. I guess it's a fun idea and something I'd like to try if given the chance, just to see what happens.
