I don't blame you for it honestly. Though there's a counterpoint: Couples have met pre-internet era through being pen pals. Where people fail, I think, is trying to actively look for it.

Let's say 1/4 of everyone here looking for an EB partner is an irl girl (given we know dudes make up a large majority.) Cut that population in half again, to find the group that is a girl IRL and not already married/ in a committed relationship. Now cut it in half again to find the population of players that are; female, not in a committed relationship and actually open to the idea of a long distance relationship. The cards are stacked against the "looking for something more" group. Yes, it's going to happen for some statistically, but it's not going to be the reality for most. Adding to that, as a girl who found an LD relationship here, I never responded to posts that said they were "looking for more". That's an immediate red flag. I can't count the amount of "You're the prettiest character I've ever seen" bs messages I got when I was legitimately just trying to find a chill friend to hang with. I had to be convinced by meeting someone who was actually worth it, because I definitely wasn't interested. And frankly, no sane person should be. If it happens, great. If it doesn't, that's ok. Because like a normal person, you go outside.

Realistically speaking, as a guy. I hate the "Looking for more" too. It's like if people are just looking for "that" so stressed about it that they can't make a friend out of a videogame. We are all here sharing at least one thing we like FFXIV.
I'm not close minded, if it happens great. But I'd rather find friends. But can agree with you that's a major part of the time is the guy who's a creep rather than the girl.

My only issue for that is...well people are on a marriage hook up thread looking for friends. Thats kinda backwards tbh in the context of the thread. (I personally dont mind it though it is odd) I do wonder why looking for more is a red flag for you though. Just curious is all

While my relationship didn't start in-game of FF14/off a thread, I have had experience with these types of things in the past with other MMOs.

As far as being in this thread and looking for friends, there are plenty of people who see the ceremony of eternal bonding as just a fun in-game activity to undertake with another person to get some items out from it. They don't really care/see any romantic connotations behind it. Half of the eternal couple pairs in my group of friends did it for items, at least another good third of them did it just for having a whacky fun time, and maybe like, 1-2 couples are there due to having actual romantic bonds to their partner.

Some people might just also recognize that relationships tend to work best when they grow organically rather than being forced, so they aim to make friends first and foremost to maximize their enjoyment, and if something grows organically from one of the friends they've made, then that's that.

Also my 2cents; I wouldn't want to eternal bond anyone who explicitly says they're after more either. From my own personal experience from way back in other MMOs, people who are looking for more tend to try and force a Square peg through a round hole even if its not working, so to speak, or they've tried to rush the relationship/not let it grow organically. But again, that's my own experience; my bf & I met over LittleBigPlanet of all things and we were PSN friends for 3 years before things started to develop between us.
