Long straight counters, maybe half the length of what is pictured below. It would also be nice to have them in the same styles of the countless corner counters we have.

More partition options:
- Pre-made partition/half partition and pillar combos (to help ease furniture usage)
- Half-width Oasis/Riviera/Glade partitions and half partitions
- Double-width Oasis/Riviera/Glade partitions and half partitions (again to save on using furniture allotments)
- Low height Oasis/Riviera/Glade partitions, which are basically partitions equalling the height and appearance of the base paneling in each respective house
- Double-width mahogany partition, as pictured below (so one double partition would take one slot versus two)

Would it be possible to get more flat colored wallpapers in various shades rather than more patterned ones? Or a wallpaper you can dye would be pretty fun to play around with. :) -

TL;DR Here is a neat idea. Free Company based Inn rooms...
1. Add a room in the FC private chambers named INN, which the FC can decorate as an inn room for guests. Decorate it how they like, even put food on it, etc. Or allow players to mark their private chambers as "INN" rooms. And lock them "INN" rooms so they can only be accessed by an INN NPC.
2. Add an NPC inn keeper that can be placed in the house that will offer any player (member of the FC or not) the use of the FC house inn rooms (listing them based on which room is "INN" marked) for a price (price defined while marking said INN room). Whatever money collected from the inn room can go directly to to a retainer... Or if its the FC house owned inn room then it goes to the FC chest. And as a bonus whomever sleeps on a FC inn room gets a +5% extra rested xp bonus.
3. While the player stays in the inn room he can interact with all the contents (food, showers, items, armoire, etc, like he would in a real inn room). And it would be up to the players to keep the inn room decorated and stocked with perishables like food and drinks.
That way those who do not wish to purchase a FC private chamber can benefit from interacting with a player built room. Players will be motivated to visit eachother's FC houses and be persuaded to spend the night logging out there. And it gives an extra reason for people to visit an FC house different to theirs, creating another venue for player market via housing ward hospitality and tourism. -

I don't know if someones already suggested it, But personally a nice touch would be the option to move the house within the plot without destroying its content in and out. Obviously moving stuff about outside would be needed but i'm suprised the option has never been put in place.

I've been meaning to mention such an idea myself. Either ceiling drapes like you've shown, or a special "canopy drape" frame to place around a bed or lounge location. I can imagine a generic white that could interact to match the lighting within the room. They could also use different shape/style/colors for each nation; Yellow for Gridania, Red for Limsa, Blue for Ul'dah, and maybe one for Ishgard?
They could use the same themes as above to create a partition like the Oriental Partition that isn't solid. Such as a nation themed frame with a partially transparent drape filling it. Even a drawn curtain doorway would be a nice aesthetic.
