I thought it would benefit us if we claimed she still existed without proof like actual religions and hide behind her for all our crimes
I have to wonder how widespread that knowledge is. We request a meeting with Hydaelyn, come back up with a bloody axe like, "Yeah, she ded." I was cringing at the thought of my character having to make that declaration once, then Myths of the Realm happened... Some people take issue with the fact we decided to just lie to people, but I was fine with it. I didn't really want to imagine G'raha and I finally taking that trip to Ishgard with all of them knowing we'd killed Halone. Especially given they need to keep praying to an answering machine or the world breaks.
Ahh, aren't we just the most heroic son of a bitch that ever did exist?
You're never going to escape the Ancients or the Allagans. I am sorry to say this.
Obviously I hope DT doesn't build up a plot with a new threat that is entirely based around either, but it shouldn't be surprising if we run into references or details recalling either group.
The complaints about further lore or story details involving the ancients are essentially the equivalent of being an archeologist and being upset you've dug up bones.
I'll tell you the most "lackluster" part of Endwalker...
Shakingway.
Shakingway is always hanging out up there on the moon in Bestways Burrow, talking about how awesome they are as a dancer, and then whenever I just do a basic /dance for them, they go and pull a Doctor Claw and run off yelling "I'll get you next time, Warrior of Light! Next tiiiiiime!"
Seriously.
None of these godawful story decisions would even be thinkable twenty years ago when this company still had actual talent working on FF in general and many other franchises. Hell, I even let my coin and tomes sink into oblivion because Lies of P is so much more engaging even if it's the weakest soulslike. Deadass played for ten straight hours on Monday. Can't recall the last time I did that in this sinking ship.
Another issues I've noticed since covid, is that a lot of narratives in media have become filled with overly hopeful or overly cynical narratives. And given the many natural disasters Japan suffers from, the multiple rebuilding efforts in the country, how depression sky rocketed during Covid and from these events, i can understand having a feel good msg that encourages hope and love and that life is still filled with so many wonderful things. I can understand wish fulfillment. But I also just want to enjoy detaching from the world and having a fun unique narrative to grab onto and see cool world building and interesting characters.
So While I can't blame them, this definitely was a point that I know resonated with quite a few, but for many others fell flat . I hope in the future they can get back to more mature narratives that don't feel like you're trying to tell your kids life isn't so bad after a traumatic experience. =\
