Ah yes, "victim blaming", the phrase most often invoked when people make poor decisions and then bad things happen to them...and they don't want to get called out on their bad decision.

I avoid posting in the forums since I noticed there were a lot of bigoted outrage over that one innocent post asking for more LGBT representation in the game, but some of the completely asinine arguments that were made here got me really angry and sad that some people still think it's okay to exploit children for their arguments.
Someone's actions can't be inferred from them using mods when you have NO WAY OF KNOWING if they use mods or not, and what specific mods they use. You do not have access to their computer and it's completely client side as Yoshi-P has stated. So the people trying to do mental gymnastics to connect dots is beyond stupid to me when it's easier, and more accurate, to denounce gross acts for what they are. Not this weird moral crusade about if what people do in their private lives are "okay" by your narrow viewpoint, when you have no idea what they actually do. And the minor stuff? You'd only know about it if you actively went searching for it (hint hint: that's pretty creepy). If you want to hurl disgusting accusations that people are "defending" pedos, then it's pretty sus of y'all to suddenly know about this being an issue when none of y'all actually provided solid evidence.
As for the "it's not up to the parents" argument which I found pretty disturbing. . .
It's 2021. Usage of tech is MANDATORY for schools now. You DO have a responsibility as a modern parent to thoroughly educate your kids of online crime. The inclusion of technology in children's lives are only going to grow, and it's gotten even more inclusive and accessible after Covid hit. So those of you shrugging off responsibility because you think computers are only used for small things. Stop. It's a huge part of children's day to day lives (always has been), so it's absolutely your responsibility as a guardian to thoroughly educate them on navigating the internet safely. It's not just enough to tell them to never open doors for strangers now. This is just people lazily shifting responsibilities. Modern parenting does not = parenting like it was in the early 2000s and backwards, so drop this ridiculous boomer argument that parents aren't even PARTIALLY responsible for their kid's actions online.
I went through awful things as a kid, and NOTHING helpful was discussed from the people who are so into "protecting" the "chilldwen". They're not fragile glass slippers for you to project yourselves onto, and this way of thinking is literally exploited by predators to prevent children AND the parents from knowing any better. There's so much concern trolling here. You want to discuss what's best for kids? Then EDUCATE THEM. It has been proven to be an effective preventative tool. Minors are better at avoiding harassment when they understand proper consent. TEACH children to spot the signs and avoid conflict so that they're well-equipped to know when to look the other way and avoid exploitation. They're human beings, not some holy symbol that solely exists for you to venerate and cling onto as an excuse. Blaming mods for minor exploitation when you have absolutely no evidence to back it up is a new low from here. Just a bunch of pompous, and "righteous" weirdos consistently treating children as if they're merely an idea (YIKES) and not liking what others do. It emulates the same kind of energy as that "Modhunter" guy that got banned from twitter, now that I think about it.
As someone who was exploited as a kid, I also found it HILARIOUSLY ironic that some of the people crying, "exploitation!" are the exact same ones exploiting children for their arguments.
The path to hell is paved with good intentions. Good parents can monitor their kids without ruining their childhood and handicapping them into adulthood.
Sorry you had to go through that.
Gaslighting from family is one of the most infuriating things that can happen to someone imo.
They're called MAP(s) now. It's 2021 get with the program you bigot.
Why hasnt this bait tread been locked yet....
Myself I don't think shelter is the answer, but it is the parents duty to teach kids and make a judgement call if they think his or her child is mature enough, or check up on to see if they are doing anything that would worry them. A teen does not need to be protected from sexual content, as it is normal part of life. Making sure your kid understands bad adults will groom them, and teach them how to handle such things will come up should be the very least any parent should do if they let child online. To not do that is being a bad parent.
And if you kid gets caught, or is not mature enough to handle it. Than don't have them play online games.
What you need to learn is you have are one of the most ignorant people on the forums, and you are always the type to think you need to educate others. You really need to self-reflect.
Kids aren't going to register to a discord with real info to ERP. What are you even talking about?
Again, I'm a libertarian against all the oversight that Bush and Obama wanted. If you are for that type of stuff, that is fine. This isn't about politics. However, I would much rather give SE more data than endanger people. As for Discord, I wouldn't join a Discord that wanted more info, but I don't ERP. If I did, I would make sure not to ERP with minors. It's a lot easier than people make it out to be.
Pretty difficult when people keep ignoring a big part of this garbage thread.
- People are claiming that adults engaging with minors online is a safe way to satisfy sexual urges.
- Persisting that pedophilia is just a regular fetish.
- Statements that pedophiles are facing the same problems as the LGBTQ-community, and how that community should show empathy.
- Normalizing the sexual depiction of nude minors as long as they're not hyper-hyper realistic.
- Shifting blame entirely to parents, and in situations when there aren't any (living or functional) parents around, to the teens themselves.
Though to their credit, apparently they're doing a really good job of selecting specific parts to respond to and make it seem like people are arguing against mods or private ERP in general...
