We are aiming to have “a specific theme for each area”
I likes this.
Shall we do another 100 posts on speculation to what this means? That'll get us to 1000, which means we shall deserve a beer and a smoke whislt feeling rather smug with ourselves.

I think people misunderstood when SE told maps are being re-done.
Some of the collisions were tweaked that's it. Unless SE VERY CLEARLY states that some change is coming then it's not and it's not in development either.
If a small battle tweak like AA has been advertised since I dunno half a year ago(?) then you honestly think they'd hold a carrot like that out of public knowledge? I don't think so.
Also given the pace at which these small tweaks have been worked on I don't think it's realistic to expect anything else than a few huts here and there in the landscapes.
Personally I feel very discouraged to continue playing a game that's built around such a bland core as the landscapes are because it would mean I'd have to look at the same hills for years to come.
Right now I feel like the words overhaul and re-build were just empty hyperbole because there is NOTHING in the list of upcoming features that would qualify the use of those words in the context of XIV.
If they told us specifics, how do you expect them to let us get our hopes up and go wild imagining the possibilities only to be crushed by the weight of our own expectations? COME ON, PEOPLE! THINK!
The JPN rep just quoted what Yoshida posted back in March - that same post that a lot of us referred to in this thread, where Yoshi talked about planning to redesign the "MAP".
As I had guessed, it's basically a confirmation of that plan, with the emphasis that it's gonna take a long time so please be patient. I mean, other than the general plan, there really isn't that much else concrete to share at this moment in time besides what had already been said before. There are, however, a couple clarifications in today's CR that should be satisfying to most of you:
"(YoshiP's March post) was an answer regarding fundamental changes and fixes to the MAP, and please also consider each area's level design as included in that statement."
"We're planning to give each area its own theme.
The post concludes with a reaffirmation that like what YoshiP posted in March, it's gonna take a long time. If anything new happens, we'll tell you.
They said they're working on it. The collision detection was just something that was possibly to achieve in the short term. The long-term goals involve more substantial changes. That was what YoshiP's post (and today's JPN post) was talking about.
They can't tell us specifics because there are no specifics yet. Just general plans and overall goals. They never said as much, but I assume that with everyone working on battle reform and new content, there isn't a lot of time to devote to map redesign and testing at the moment, but they WILL do something about it. It's just a matter of time.
Give 'em a break, the JPN post was written at 9AM PST. The NA reps were just getting into work.
You're more than welcome to your opinion on the matter but I don't think it's just "collision detection". The words re-build, drastic, radical and re-design does not tell me that all they're thinking about is minor "tweaks". It tells me they are going to be working long and hard on completely remaking a lot of the copypasta.
To even further that:
tells me that they have a solid plan to redo the world.Quote:
"We're planning to give each area its own theme."
The list of upcoming features spans roughly up until August/September. That's all. Just because there is nothing of this current "world redesign" means absolutely nothing. They're probably gonna start implementing it after summer is over up until PS3 launch. This would make the most sense.
Change is coming. People in this thread should be happier as opposed to more discouraged. Even if it was a vague answer to what our almost 100 pages is asking, it's something. There is surely more information to come.
