Feel free to add Seraphim <SERA> (Ultros) to this list. I feel like we're practically overflowing with 'mos. (I can say that because I am one) ;-)

This is great idea
I agree to the extent that just because one is gay, that doesn't give you the right to make fun of other gay people. BUT, it is one's prerogative if they want to use a word that was once demeaning in a positive light in an attempt to reclaim it for themselves. It doesn't mean it stops being a slur to other people, of course. But if people in the lgbt community want to use it as a source of empowerment instead of demoralization, that's fine with me.Quote:
Being the race / sexuality / religion of something should/does not give you a free pass to make jokes about it.
But that's no different than an African American using the N word in a empowering sense. It doesn't make it right for them to use the word simply because they're black. A slur is a slur. Especially since just because it's okay for the person saying it, doesn't mean every other person of that ethnicity feels the same. Homophobic comments are no different; if you're homosexual and use a term like that it may be fine to you, but it's not socially acceptable.
If Black people want to do that, it is their prerogative. Not everyone in the community may agree, but if you're using it to empower other people in who also see it as a sign of fraternity, etc. then it is doing the opposite effect of a slur in this case.Quote:

EDIT: Let me further explain, if I can. As a gay person, I see the f-word slur in a negative light. It doesn't matter if other gay people use it, I don't want to be called it. But if other gay people want to use it, they're fine. They're trying to take the power out of the slur, which I respect.
If I use the N word on another black person I be damned if its going to be to empower them lol. Let it be known I dont use the N word and dont listen to fools that do like almost all rappers.
Anyway yall need to get back on topic...and its not black people and the use of the N word... But gay people just saying.
You have to be a member of that community to understand, which was my entire point. Oh wellz.Quote:
So if I use a racial slur in a empowering tone (to me), yet the majority of that race is offended by it.. it's okay? I'll agree to disagree on this one.
I'm in an LGBT LS on Sarg. There, back on topic.
Stop derailing the thread! Pretty please? :)
There are countless pejorative terms that have been used for different groups. Some people in those groups may try to reclaim the term and take away its power. Those subgroups may even be okay with other people using the term as long as it is used in its reclaimed fashion.
However, unless/until a term is fully reclaimed it will always remain charged and considered a slur to people not in the subgroup trying to reclaim it (or who feel that only people in that subgroup can use it). As such, while individuals may feel comfortable using these terms among their friends, using them in public/online is just inviting trouble.
If someone uses a slur term to refer to themselves in a non-denigrating way, you may assume that they are trying to reclaim the term and are comfortable using it among their friends. That is all that can be assumed. If you agree with their reclamation of the term and want to help/participate, ask them if they would be offended if you used it when talking to them (them only and not other people in the same group).
I don't consider this to be acting "politically correct". I think of it as basic empathy, consideration, and respect.
Does anyone else remember when being called a "geek" was considered an insult?
To attempt to get us slightly back on track, I'll return to Sakura's question about Malboro .. does anyone know any good linkshells on Malboro? Our FC is great but small. Just looking for more people to talk to.
Candy Boy is a LGBT friendly LS from Siren (NA), everyone is welcome to join us. We're a small group of friendly people.
So I am looking for a LGBT Server and Guild to join, preferably one with a lot of cute single guys. ;)
Server i'm on now it is ok, but kind of feel out of place and lonely. :(
You can certainly add Armageddon <ARMA> to the list as an LGBT-friendly FC! We are on the Famfrit server. We welcome anyone and everyone, as long as they are respectful to others (even outside of the FC). We do not tolerate hate-mongering!
You can definitely add us to the list. Discotek <DISCO> is an LGBT-friendly FC on Ultros server. Our site can be found here.
Quoted from our code of conduct:
"Never post any comments or chat, either here on our website, or other websites (including other site forums), in-game, or spoken on the Mumble server, that are racist, sexist, offensive, homophobic, sexually explicit or in any way discriminatory. This is an LGBT friendly company with many feminist members and as such, violations of this rule will be dealt with harshly. "
We all like an occassional joke, but we ask our members to be respectful and not be ignorant, and if someone asks them to stop or to not make a joke like that, they better well listen.
Didn't know this was a big deal. We have a lesbian couple and 3 gay guys in our FC. Never thought much about it, but I guess it can be a harsh environment. Guess my FC is pretty laid back, we're always bashing on each other, but always in good fun and never with malice. Our doors are always open, all we ask is you have a good and awesome attitude, player skill and everything else is just a bonus.
It's always good to have these FCs.
Hay Everyone! I've got one more to add to the list as lgbt friendly!
Valar Dohaeris is an lgbt friendly guild founded from a number of former Seraphim players. Please check us out if you're on Ultros.
Another to the LGBT friendly list: Zodiac Braves on Diabolos.

This is a great resource to the LGBT community of FFXIV. I know I was in an FC in my early days that was pretty homophobic (got out of there right quick!)—I think it's great to compile a list like this so others don't go through similar experiences. =)
That being said, I'd like to plug my current FC. I believe we'd fall in the LGBT-Friendly category.
The Unbroken — Diabolos
unbroken.guildwork.com
"The Unbroken is an all-inclusive (meaning multi-racial, multi-religious, and LGBT-friendly) casual Free Company on the Diabolos server of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn accepting anyone who is mature, friendly, and respectful."
(That blurb is taken directly from our website, on the About page)
Here's one for LGBT & Allies:
Train Suplex (WOOF) - Gilgamesh
https://www.facebook.com/groups/621313047901589/
We're a social bear guild with players in every phase of the game (beginners through clearing coil turn 5). We help each other out with runs, crafting, and advice. We do a lot of guild activities including treasure maps, dungeon runs (all levels), and power leveling crafting classes. All bears and allies are welcome to join. Visit us at our facebook page or message Youso Tryhard in game.
Hi everyone! Xander Targaryen and I are thinking of starting up an LGBT FC on Tonberry as we can't seem to find one on our world. Drop me an IM here or in-game if you're interested in being part of this. We're both relatively new to FFXIV, so it will be a casual FC for now till we build up more experience.
Best wishes,
Domch Raybringer
This is one for the LGBT & Allies list:
The Rainbow Patrol(G.A.Y) - Famfrit
rainbow-patrol.tumblr.com
We are a recently created mature company that accepts all members regardless of preferred content. Our main focus is to create a safe space for people across the LGBT spectrum but we are not LGBT exclusive demographically. We obviously can't really verify a person's age, but we are a mature company where you are free to have more adult conversations and language as long as you are respectful and tone it down when appropriate. We are currently filling spots for static raid teams while still having plenty of players who are in the leveling process. No matter your class, level, or play style we would love to have you! Talk to Grell Moonshadow, Ceodore Harvey, or Aldolon Spellsong if you wish to join or get more information. You can also submit an application in-game or on our tumblr page and receive a swift response.
Hello, I'm looking for a lgbt friendly FC on Hyperion. I've been rolling solo for too long and I'm finally getting bored of it. If there are any still recruiting, that would be great~
Here is one for behemoth. I'm the leader of it too ^_^
Clan of United Bears (CUB)
We're an LGBT Group thats mostly composed of bears but we include all allies and LGBT brothers! Our motto is "A Home for Bears! Bears for everyone!" meaning we like to give a home like feeling to everyone in our free company! Hope to see you onboard! WOOF!
Gods of War on Leviathan is LGBT friendly, after all it has a trans woman co-leader. We don't judge or mind any LGBT menber, and certainly don't judge them badly. It's not in our recruitment ad that we are LGBT friendly though.
Gilgamesh Server - MagiTaint Mayhem
"The Taint of Eorzea." ~Garlond, XIV 1.0
(In case this list is outdated as some of these guilds have collapsed)

Looking for a lgbt friendly linkshell to join on Balmung. I'm already in a fc that I'm committed to but I would like to meet more lgbt people especially role players. Feel free to add under Ren'li Nblu or shoot me a letter if I need an interview before joining.
Everytime I look there's never one for Brynhildr :/
I'm quite satisfied with my FC, but I'd like to join a LGBT Linkshell on Ragnarock as well ... still, according to this thread it looks like I'm "the only gay on the server" xD
You may add my FC "Maximus" on Balmung, to the list of LGBT friendly.
We're not made solely for it but there is no discrimination what soever. We're mildly active and only about 9 members, but people are most welcome.
We do not have a website.

Are there any LGBT LS in Tonberry server?
Any linkshells on Blamung that aren't RP based? If so, send me a message or letter in game - Josh Tribal
Edit - Obviously, I mean LGBT friendly LS's
You realize that people in MMOs have casual conversations that don't necessarily revolve around the game...right?
Also next to "bio" or "bathroom", the next most common reason I hear for going afk during a dungeon is "brb my gf/bf/husband/wife is calling".
Glad someone necro'd this thread so I could see this.
oops double post accident
Asked and answered several times through this thread. Reading the OP and the last page and then asking an FAQ is... yeah. Special.
