*runs around in all directions screaming!!!*
*hits a pole*
*cries* ; ;
Thank you! As much as I will miss my friends dearly, I'd like a server located in my region.
This thread is so negative~ I understand many are upset of the news and have every right to be, but at least I'll post saying I'm happy about regional servers and thank the dev team for giving an option to those who asked for a remedy of the lag. (And don't get me wrong I'll miss my friends but I will most defiantly choose a lower ping if given the option! *'-')b especially with PvP on the way~)
Cheers~
The hilarity of this shitstorm is that it's pointless.
They aren't region locked. You may choose any server you want. If servers being a hodgepodge of nationalities is such a unifying factor of the FF MMO experience, then the supposed community will make it happen regardless.
SE hasn't done anything other than give players a choice.
US player here. I just want to post to show my support for the regional servers. I am very happy to hear about this change. I can't want to move to a NA server and have less lag and the ability to play with people who almost all speak English. To me this will make the game much more fun and playable. I have a hard time getting anything done in the current game due to lack of players to do stuff with.
To all the naysayers and complainers, SE is still letting people pick any regions servers they want to play on so you and your friends can decide ahead of time where you want to go.
If only it was that simple right, I'm sure most of my NA friends will leave, Or maybe i should ask my whole NA LS, of 30ppl to stay on the server because i have JP and FR friends on it. Not even sure what my EU friends will do, since their ls was made up of both en, fr and German players. Like i said in a previous post, its not like my friends only play with me, they have other friends and other LS they play with, I can't selfishly ask them to prioritize me
I can't believe this. I really can't. I don't even feel like doing my regular activities in game right now.
I'm sure the team would've known the consequences of this decision. How could they not?
We have not been playing this game for the sole hope that ARR would be a good game. When the servers were empty and the content awful we kept each other's hopes alive with the friends we've made. From around the world and from many different background we entertained each other, educated each other and made friendships with like minded people across the world.
There has to be a way to fix the lag and retain one of the key features of XIV in ARR. I just can't fathom breaking up the community like this.
Have you been paying close atention to Yoshida's statements? Because he has used these exact terms when bringing up some new content that we were used to having on other FFs, simply because they were there. You don't have to defend against anything, and I have never asked you to do it. You should have read it as if you were Yoshida, the game director.Quote:
Wow, really? Really?
And just who would I have to defend it against? You?
Please realize what an appeal to tradition is about, and I'll tell you that even if someone complains about implementing a classical FF staple, I would never resort to a "well because we've always had chocobos" argument.
But if you want to, please explain why we have chocobos and not some other mount. Don't bring up different mounts coming in another future patch, as that is irrelevant to the point.
Now I know what Yoshida would say. Because Final Fantasy has always had Chocobos. You can apply that to moogles playing a part, Malboros and Behemoths being mobs, Dragoon being a job, crystals being in the main plot and summons being present. Almost every FF has had it, and FXIV will simply because it has become a tradition. Yoshida needs not to clarify this further, as no one here would complain about it because he has resorted to the "tradition" argument. If you don't like that, too bad.
Quit the game, then.
Its a series title, you change it, change the name, no prob, dont trick people into playing FF for years to get our sub-money and just rip the game appart.
Actually, i think people have a short signed vision of this regional datacenters. i played wow years ago, and there you can choose to play in a regional server or internationals. The difference in lag was minimal and didn't affected gameplay at all if you played in a international server. I don't doubt will be the same here if i choose to play in a japanese datacenter, since packet loss will hopefully disappear.
Since this, i'm not worried at all
Nostalgia... factor? I don't think I've ever felt nostalgic when seeing a recurrent theme in a FF game that I've played.
I could understand if it was a FF 1 only thing coming back at XIV, but something that almost EVERY single FF has had?
Nostalgia is such a different thing I'll just settle with the fact we probably have very different opinions on this.
Friend's are temporary. Lag is forever.
Good grief it wasn't 'unclear' They said from the start there WOULD be regional servers, nothing ambiguous about it. We already have a regional server already (Ragnarok), its happened, it will happen again, again and again. The only difference compared to what we have now is there, heaven forbid, actually having servers people can play with less lag instead of getting a sub par experience for a specific subset of the world population (They were asking for this as far back as FFXI for goodness sake, it wasn't eliminated in that game either but people 'coped' with it, or did we suddenly forget about the "JP Button" that went around when FFXI first released in the US). Servers are not getting segregated, no one is forcing you to leave, no one is forcing your friends to leave, nothing more then what happened when Ragnarok was introduced. Furthermore if content finder is done well it should be possible to play with friends on other servers anyways, it just means you won't be in the same linkshell or free company anymore. And if that matters so much to you about segregation you can make another character on the split server so you can always converse with your friends. Some of us wanted this from the start, way back before FFXIV even released and it became the mess it was.
I'm just glad I won't have to here "JP ORNY" again!
Completely agree. This is a horrible design choice. Right before I read this information I was playing with one friend from Hong Kong and one from Florida. That will be a thing of the past. Living in Europe my choice now is to go to European server where people, just like they do on Ragnarok now, tend to stay in LSs with their own language, or go to an NA server where very few people will b e playing at the same time as me...or not play at all...
Probably because this wasn't the way they imagined SE fixing latency?
Personally, I would rather test out the new data-centers in terms of latency, or at least see them tested out before 2.0 launches. I'm the kind of person who likes to know what he's getting into before I get into it...or before I grow an opinion. lol
Exactly. And where is that in the 2 year old game? No where to be seen. It's coming because the community asked for it. Because the game failed and they want you to feel rewarded. It's a good example of nostalgia, that does not apply to anything else I've said.Quote:
I had Magitek armor in mind when I was thinking about it.
God, such an asshole, and for what reason? Got what she wanted but isn't satisfied until she stomps on other people's frustration. I'll say it again, get the fuck off if you have nothing else to add.Quote:
Quit the game, then.
I think people are missing the point here ._.
No one has to play in their region if they want an international experience.
I don't see how people feel their community will die because you can now play regional or international....
Server Merge Rage Part 2 (well, its similar XD)
Maybe it's the fear that the population wont be large enough or that people with friends from across the globe will be gone, etc.I dont blame them,PSO2 is doing regional servers and everyone was flipping out at first, but I honestly dont think it's anything we can do now.Just gotta accept it,and if it all crash and burns then well, that's it.
Well there goes all my friends over seas. While I like the idea of less lag, I will hate it at the same time.
I think it's pretty selfish that people would rather have one server for all and no other choice whatsoever. If I want the option to reduce my lag in-game by going to the server closer to where I live then I should have that option, I payed for the game, I pay the monthly fee and I should get the best possible gaming experience there is. It's not like I wont meet nice people there just because that server have less Japanese/NA people. Players shouldn't have to suffer lag because other people want to meet everyone on the planet.
I will pick the server my LS pick which will probably be a NA server. I'm from EU btw. If everyone in my LS decide to go to separate servers then that's not S-E fault, it's their decision. I'll meet new players on whatever server I end up on but hopefully the people I play with today decides to go to the same server.
well, at least i hope the durandal server is tied with north american region, if not this sucks
By the way im not very familiar with the computer stuff, but isnt there a chance that we can have like the wifi stuff that when you get several signals it takes the best in range for you, if you're in certain server and you are in North America region, your account can take the closest host point center, the one with better range for you? so you dont need to change servers according to your zone
A simple solution is to name all the current servers as "International" don't even mention the data center its attached to and open up new regional servers for people migrate to if they want to. The result would be no worse then when Ragnarok launched. Some of the people in this thread seem to think that suddenly the world is going to be split in twaine and there isn't anything they can do about it... there is, find friends who find community more important then marginally less lag (most of us), and let the rest of the community who actually has been asking for better servers a chance to move on to different pastures.
I think, if you can live with 1.0 latency, there is no reason to change data center/worlds in ARR. this system is provided to cater those who have high latency due their ISP
Much like saying that someone should die when they are utterly depressed about life sucking.Quote:
It was a suggestion.
I know I'll quit when it stops being fun for me.
you know what's really amazing? everyone seems to be assuming that if you don't play on a server near your region you're going to have OMG THE WORST MOST UNPLAYABLE LAG EVER IN THE HISTORY OF EVER OMG.
No. they've rebuilt the code to make it perform better to help reduce the lag. I'm pretty sure it's been noted multiple times that yoshi-p played on a japanese server at gamescom.
Also, those arguing "Just tell people to stay on your server and if they don't they're not really your friends"....
My god, I have never heard logic as flawed and idiotic as this. Are you really that self-absorbed as to not see that that's not-at-all as easy as you make it out to be? please, please remove your heads from your behinds before you hurt yourself.
Isnt the content finder is cross-world? someone can clarify this?
They didn't say what servers will be linked for cross server content finder. But I am saying is that other MMOs link servers in the same data center for cross server play. Its easier for them to set up with the servers being in the same place. Now I am not saying SE will do this but its what every other MMO does that has this feature.
