If we are able to get all 4 mounts, which would be awesome, there will be more than just goobues running around.
The breeding system probably won't be out till 2.0.
Just gonna have to deal with it till then.

Actually this is probably about the best way they could have accomplished making a Goobbue into a mount. While I can't say I was thrilled with the concept from its inception this is much better than I expected. I had visions of ridding them piggy back and this is more like Aladdin and the magic carpet.
Well, here's what idea just popped into my head after looking at the pics and then reading about 10-15 pages of mixed opinions.
Chocobos and Goobuues are mounts. Chocobos everyone loves and they are fast. Goobuues are somewhat slow but VERY powerful. Since we can essentially be knocked off our chocobos by high levels mobs, it's probably safe to say that it would be somewhat harder to be knocked off a stronger mount.
I think one of the obvious purposes for the Goobuue mount is to walk past higher leveled mobs with more defense and lesser chance of being knocked off your mount so you can reach hard to get to aetheryte crystals. They can also be used for a variety of other reasons as well.
But all in all, I think chocobos will still be the primary use of transportation by Eorzeans. Goobuues second. Unless your a freakin' BOSS or something?
I could be just over thinking this thing, but from a game designers standpoint (a good game designer, mind you), this not only makes some sense but also makes both mounts serve a special purpose for the player. Not just simply moving faster. Same could be said for the Drake and Ahirman mounts coming in the future. Who knows?
I am hoping there would be at least a fun quest with it..not just talk to a NPC and get reward. But none of us know...so all pure speculation at this point.Quote:
You, like others seem to have misunderstood exactly what she meant. We already knew there would be a pet class introduced (Shepard) at one point in time, when that is we don't know, but her post was basically saying it would have been better if the ability to tame and mount monsters were possible due the pet class, rather than just anyone having the ability to mount monsters out of the blue. yet somehow people took that as her saying this game shouldn't have mounts at all.
It's unlikely there will be a quest or anything that goes into detail because this is clearly added as fan service since they said there will be special mounts for those who stick around through the rebuilding process to XIV's 2.0 relaunch.
I understand what she was saying now...I suppose the reason I didn't understand what she was saying because it seemed slightly off topic to me. But yeah I get it now. I for one like this mount I think its a cool idea :)
yaaaaaaa i posted a thread a wile ago about how excited i would be for a gobbue mount and every one sayed it would never happen im sooo glad they were wrong ^^ and soon ill be riding on my very own goobbue /dance
*squeelz like little girl* OMAHGAH I want it! Good job SE for adding in more OPTIONS, heaven forbid you add in anything.
Uhn... From what I remember... Aren't those 'cute' mounts like the Gobbue meant to be for show only whereas in the future in 2.0 your chocobo will effectively be a party member capable of going into combat as well?
I do remember somewhere, maybe a producer letter or a question, that they stated that this Gobbue mount was just to show off and had far lower usability than the actual chocobo mount.
Also, just so you know, nobody who likes final fantasy can complain about a mount looking stupid, if we weren't all rabid fanboys/girls we'd all see that a giant chicken is totes stupid (I still adore chocobos, though)
I question how many Final Fantasy games you've played then. There were other mounts than the Chocobo throughout the series, and there have been some rather goofy moments throughout the series; a goofy mount isn't that farfetched. And seriously, have you looked a chocobo? Tell me riding that really makes sense... really...
Final Fantasy is known for blending many designs together, if you haven't realized that, then the only reason I can think of, is you haven't played many Final Fantasy games.
I don't see a need for other mounts than the chocobo, and yes, I wish they'd focus development on higher priority issues, but if their adding another mount then I'm happy. I won't ride it (okay, once to see), but that's it.
Throughout Final Fantasy history there have been so many different mounts. http://www.ffcompendium.com/h/trans.shtml
Dunno why FFXIV has to be limited to just the Chocobo. o.O
LOL @ This thread. "Don't add so many mounts like other games" "Yay thanks for adding more mounts!"....... SE is so screwed if they listen to what everyone says here. Guess they just randomly choose who to listen to and who not to for ideas. *Btw I am a mount supporter*
I personally wrinkle my nose every time someone pulls up beside me in a Japanese hot rod. But that's their choice.
This world would be very boring if everyone had no other options to drive but, say, a Ford Focus.
No Mustangs, no Camaros, no F-150s, no Blazers, no Beetles, no PT Cruisers, no Mini Coopers. You get a Focus, and that's it.
Now, if you like your Focus, great. Drive it to your heart's content. But some like variety.
I say bring on the mounts! I <3 Gobbues!
Not that I care...but your list doesn't really help your cause, there is next to nothing on that list that is a "Mount" style transportation. Chocobos have "For the most part" been the classic means of overworld transportation in Final Fantasy titles the rest generally being a sort of airship of some sorts.
Much like your list being 99% ariships.
I don't care about it being "Final Fantasy" I just think riding around these mobs is just downright strange I have no idea why anyone would even find it asthetically appealing to ride a Goobue, Drake, Arihman(WTF), or any other MONSTER in the game. Taming them as pets for battle is one things, mounting it's skull is another IMHO.
Obviously not everyone shares my opinion though so chances are I'll just abstain from the practice outside gaining the inevitable achievments that will come with the system and I'll just pray I don't see Goobues bounding through the air as I end my day. A large part of why I like this game is because it's grounded in a firm sense of "Realism" while it's a fantasy world most things still make sense in the terms of the universe and don't look what I deem "Silly"
Yes before you ask, I do find a Goobue moving any faster than the speed of a mild run silly, I find mounting the monsters that litteraly crush your face in silly, I find riding a evil beast that is inteligent rediculous (Ahriman)
If it gets too out of control I'll be replacing all mount .dats with good old chocobos and just pretending I lived in a world where people had a sense of style instead of wanting to ride Goobues with racing stripes.
Anything I have to say in this thread is pretty much already covered in my signature. But, in case anything happens to it, I fully support monster mounts, and I am looking forward to seeing more in the future!
No funny... I don't associate everything Japanese and Japanese made with rice. I wouldn't even condense all of Japanese food to rice. I ate rice almost everyday growing up, so I guess I never learned to associate with it Japanese or Asian people and their ethnic "quirks".
I'm just weird like that I guess, I also don't wrinkle my nose when encountering something or someone simply because they were not made in America.
The last time I checked cars have very little or nothing to do with food. Also yes many Mexican people would find it offensive if you referred to them or really anything Mexican other than Tacos or Burritos as "Taco this" or "Burrito that", and Italians definitely don't like having their entire culture boiled downed to pizza. Many of them would find that incredibly offensive.
The more you explain yourself, yes the more you do sound like an absolutely terrible person.
Actually, *dude* I drive a 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee :) BAMF
lol @ judging people irl about stuff they like in video games. And yeah Gobbues are def flashy like chrome *rolleyes* Maybe a pen and paper RPG would be more your speed, you could be the dungeon master and control what happens and describe what things look like..but not too detailed or it would be flashy and that's no good.
Has everyone gone mad, people really do like to have something to complain about.
I guess you wouldn't. You didn't see what things were like in Detroit after the auto industry collapse. Every other house you see up for sale, foreclosed, or merely abandoned. Trained professionals with engineering degrees begging for a job at McDonalds. Families relocating to other states and leaving their lives behind because they can't make a living in Michigan. My uncle, who worked for GM his whole life, took an early retirement for fear he wouldn't otherwise get one. He was one of the lucky ones.
Things like this make you realize the importance of buying local. It's a concept that farmers' markets and small businesses thrive on. If more Americans supported their own economy, perhaps more people would have jobs.
This doesn't make me racist. It's only common sense.
I'm the kind of gamer who likes unusual things, such as "joke" weapons and monster mounts. Do I like to have a joke weapon as my primary one? No. But, in my opinion, they are nice to have, and can lighten the mood in some situations. As for mounts, I don't see why not so long as they are possible. And, as far as I have seen, there is absolutely nothing in Final Fantasy XIV that proves Goobbues can't be tamed.
You gotta understand this is the battered housewife club that has been mentally abused by years of only playing XI. All they want is XI again and if anything is outside the box of where XI was it's unacceptable for them. Funny this is that SE seems to be trying to move on but they cant.
I fully support this, if it fends off attacking Pugots, and turns them into delicious bacon.
Blaming the Japanese and the Japanese auto industry for all or any of that makes you a racist.
Common sense would be recognizing falling American manufacturing and design standards over the years that led to Japanese auto makers making such headway into the American market because they made cars that people wanted to buy and mismanagement at the big 3.
Deriding people for driving Japanese calls, calling them "rice grinders" (from the implication, and even your ridiculous stereotypical assertion that rice is an appropriate cultural identifier for anything Japanese), and wrinkling your nose at them just makes you sound extremely petty and really explains a lot of your racism tinged posts on this forum.
This discussion has gone to doo-doo.
wowzie, well we save on server lag by "carpooling" parties around? i mean, that is a pretty classy way of doing this
LOL, I'm not blaming the Japanese auto industry. I'm disappointed in Americans who don't support our own economy. And people like you, who clearly don't care, are a big part of the problem. It happens every day. Do you ever pick up that item you're getting ready to purchase, turn it over, and see where it's made? Do you ever opt to visit a shop owned by someone in your neighborhood instead of going to Wal-Mart? Do you ever buy your produce from local farmers, instead of something imported? Labor is outsourced and goods are imported when it could be done locally. Do you turn a blind eye, or make informed choices?
I'm not denying that there has been mismanagement within Chrysler for years, and that GM's misleading statements regarding its loan payback hasn't earned it some scorn, such as the nickname 'Goverment Motors'. But Ford refused government money and pulled itself up by its bootstraps, maintaining a level of integrity you can't help but respect. And quality? The Ford Mustang is not only an American icon, but the bare bones V6 is 305 HP and gets 31 MPG, and costs less than $25K. GT, even better. Or better yet, hand one over to Roush, Saleen, or Carol Shelby and see its full potential.
You're clearly fixated on making this into something it's not. I'm not deriding anyone, and made no such insults. In fact, I clearly said that if anyone wants to drive such a vehicle, that is their choice. I may not agree with it, but that is their choice, and I defended their right to make it.
If this is truly an issue over the choice of a nickname I used (something that is widely used by people in gearhead circles across the country every day and I have yet to meet anyone who has ever found it to be offensive), I will be the first to apologize. To anyone. Just step right up and say so. I also edited my original post just in case it really does genuinely bother someone.
However, you jumped in guns a blazin' and outright called me a racist (now deleted by the forum mods) and turned a perfectly good thread into a flame war. Again. Pretty much like the server merge thread where you irrationally and repeatedly called anyone who was in favor of regional servers racists, as well. Which leads me to believe this has nothing to do with your being 'offended'. Your rude posts, name calling, paranoia, and continual need to somehow make yourself a better person than everyone else by bringing down others indeed lead me to see how people call you elitist. I seriously can't tell if you're trolling at this point, or if you really believe the outrageous things that come out of your mouth.
All I said is that people like choices. Just like everyone has different tastes in cars, people have different tastes in mounts, so let them choose and be happy.
And to answer your question earlier, no you don't equate Rice with Japanese food -- While it is a staple of a lot of Japanese food, it is also a staple of other asian foods, much like Bread is a big thing in American food. Japanese food is more equated to seafood than anything, this is where I think he was getting his generalization thing from, since I'll be the first to admit we eat rice with A LOT of stuff, but so do Koreans and Taiwanese.
What the hell is going on in here? Wasn't this thread about gobbues looking fabulous before?
As you said, it is indeed a staple. It's not meant as an insult. Just like you said bread is a big thing in American food. It's just a fact. *shrugs*
If people of other countries started calling American cars 'bread machines' or something, I wouldn't find it racist. I'd find it amusing.
I really don't see how this is any worse than the primal weapons.
But then again, if you thought those where tarnishing the artistic integrity, I can fully understand your stance.
This does feel a little out of place with a game as classically inclined on an artistic scale as this. But at the very least, we can take peace in knowing that these enemies where always in the game, and taming them does not fall out of the bounds of lore. It just supposed to be very hard, so let's hope that whatever we have to do to get them is a fair test of ingenuity and patience.
This "defense" is honestly very flawed and not very accurate at all......
I dont want FFXI again, but it is still a good idea to take the things that where good from one and bring into the other.
FFXIV would have started off a lot better, if they took FFXI and used it as a base for FFXIV, then pored in the FFXIV filling, instead of trying to make it as different as possible.
We don't need 20+ mounts, we need a chocobo breeding system, and little customization with them equipment wise, and thats all.
Maybe bring back the racing and improve on it, and more chocobo games to play with others.
