Didn't yoshi use "Charm" as an example of CORE mage crowd control?
I really hope that a mage class or a pet class can specialize in crowd control tactics. I am really disappointed in our current crowd control abilities, they are limited at best and useless at worst. And I of course mean where it counts: Endgame. Sure sleep and bind work on most regualr mobs but there are certain situations with NMs where better (or in some cases any) crowd control would be handy. A good example is Dodores. My LS can easily beat Dodores, as Im sure most can. However, I find it silly that you cant use sleep as a tactic for crowd control on the Dodore's Minions. Dont get me wrong, im not asking for some super low recast timer that makes it where 1 player can solo Dodores with sleep >> nuke >> sleep. But being able to sleep the 3 adds if you had 3 mages wouldnt break the game. And dont get me started on the weak durration of shadowbind on NMs. I guess I just want more options besides zerging or having multiple tanks.
I know this is a weird choice, but I'd say thief or pet jobs. Yeah, I get that we all want another caster. I would probably have it to 50 ASAP, while I'd never touch THF-like classes or pet jobs. But they're really just missing. I want to see daggers spinning at quick speeds, rather than a choice between swords, shields, axes, and lances. With the exception of DoTs, there is enough to cover ranged DD and debuffing. If any new mage should come about, it needs to be less like the existing mages.
That said, why couldn't we kill two birds at once and create summoner, as opposed to a pet OR magic job? =D
Musketeer and Arcanist.
You know, those two classes that were supposed to be in release and then never were... Would make sense for Arcanist to get the water spells and enfeebles now
Musketeer could possibly double as a mage class if they have magic bullets....or we could give a hybrid class in this game and bring back a well-balanced Red Mage through fencer. And for most of the jerks from XI if Red Mage does come out...I'ma use my god dang sword. XP
My vote would be firstly for a pet class, caster secondly, and thief third.
RDM is my all-time favorite job, but I'd still prefer a pet class first and foremost.
And if they put kittens in the game as a new mob, I'll kill 100 of them regardless.
o.O
I believe Red-Mage (The originals not XI) had skills from Wht mage and blk mage up to Magic lvl 5. Red mages also used Swords/Dagger/Rod swords were the strongest which fits my taste anyway. But they had enfeebling and buffs.(Oh how I miss Temper and Haste together) By having so many skills to their disposal they'd be able to increase their attack power and speed as well as teammates. They could also do magical damage if necessary or heal and set up defensive buffs. XI made them to whimpy with weapons though.
If they make it in this game I want it to be more like the earlier FF with refresh and fast cast added to them lol.
Good old redmage, we were gods among other jobs now we are well cheap knock off.
give me my true redmage back.
given that i would go with a pet class first then mage. smn probable out of the question from what they said. beastmaster or puppetmaster would be the only choice realy. and no i would want a necro
Pet Class......
Hello, old thread. Nice to see you again.
If I had my choice, I'd want them to finally put in the missing classes that were supposed to be there at launch: Musketeer and Arcanist (Especially Musketeer).
But I know that probably won't happen so caster/pet hybrid class would be my pick. Summoner to be more precise.
Thief baby Thief!
I want Negotiator (scout class), convinces all enemies that fighting isnt in their best interest. And if that doesnt work they can use a devastating ability: Bore to Death.
I'd like to see musketeer implemented as similar to corsair in xi. Dice rolls and cardshots to buff/debuff.
I miss my THF so much...
Didn't he say he's not going to put any more DoW/melee classes before he sees more magic-based ones incorporated first, on numerous occasions? /confused
i hope they add all 3 jobs at once otherwise itll be like wows Death knight and everyone will just be that 1 class cause its new and exciting
Beastmaster please.
Balanced would be nice.
Party friendly as well.
Furry AF is a must.
Get moving on this.
Summoner! Pet + Magic.
Puppetmaster. I know that Pup is nowhere on any of the road-maps, but dang-howdy do I want to be able to punch stuff while a little robot does it's thing. All time favorite class from XI. It was complicated and fun. Also, the puppets were just cool looking.

I'd take a new caster, if it was blue mage... >.> <.< Immortals for Life! Aht Urghan or bust!
But no, seriously, i'm most looking forward to Scout, i loved THF in XI.
Necromancer
100% Agreed. BST LS has already been made on Lindblum: "Lucky Charms" is back!
Please use FFXI BST as base and improve from there! Looking forward to:
- Pet control: Attack, Release, Return, Sic (special attack trigger: pets abilities become selectable as a higher lvl BST), Feed (give pet food, food effect varies based on pet type), Stay (set a marker way point for pet to remain until called)
- Charming Pets: everything but NMs
- Same amazing Soloing Capabilities
- Balanced party dynamics
- Pets don't count against EXP or party member count
- Traditional medium/fur armor/weapons (Guttler for the win!)
- Unique abilities that utilize pet as a weapon with control over pets attacks/defenses based on the lvl of BST (with higher lvl BST selection of pet abilities becomes available)
- Real-time ui widget displaying mob info: pet abilities (when available), aggro, hp, mp, tp, pet stance (aggressive, calm, defensive :selectable:)
A lot can be done here to improve on old BST concepts! :3
There's also a thread I made awhile back with all these ideas explained in detail, it had good reception from other players wanting BST in FFXIV. Ill link it if i can find it.
*huggles*
BST
BST BST BST
As one of the co-creators of the largest BST ls across all servers in FFXI (Monstersinc LS of Ramuh) I would love to see bst back in action!
Anything EXCEPT Red mage/Ninja/Thief.
Summoner YES.
Arcanist YES
Musketeer YES
New Class/Job YES.
RANGED BLUE MAGE YES.
I'd actually rather have one each from the different class-types presented in the player's poll the 3rd. That way everyone gets something.
Aside from that, I have to go with thf/nin first and whatever else after that. Also on the players poll, there were 2 categories that I cant see why they couldnt co-exist. combine thief/nin with the idea of a melee dubuffing class. With some of the normal things you'd expect dual wielding low damage low delay weapons, some form of steal, TH, and gil finder, stealth abilities, flee. However, where it would differ would be in low damge WSs with highly effective DoTs and ninja could introduce WSs that add to combos with things like mute, disable, and petrify. As well as perfcet dodge as the "15 min" and a different spin on Shadows in the direction of Naruto lol. So instead of mitigating an attack it spawns clones that increase your damage for a short time.
On the other hand if they make a thief/nin class that is worthless (brings nothing new like DoTs or more CC tactics or even enmity control tactics), then dont even bother. If there is one thing I hate more than anything its a worthless "why did you make this" class. On the other other hand, SE still needs to work on ballance (hello all ranged and 1 tank set ups....)
Gypsy/Dancer - support based
All 3. thief, summoner, mage ;)
I'd like to see a different take on things, rather than stand alone jobs/class sort of thing, something that by itself is neat, but compliments another specific class further. For instance, someone mentioned a gypsy/dancer type of thing. Lets pair this up with the Bard - Specalized songs that are accessible only when a Dancer is within the same party. I realize syncronized actions can be difficult to pull off when you are dealing with other players through varied connections and lag, etc. But spells/songs that dont unlock themselves until certain requirements are met arent difficult.
Battle Regime worked on the same premise of a bard/dancer ensemble.
Wouldn't be too hard to implement.
the only downside is, I don't want to depend on another character for my skills
What I would be in favor of if is something like this:
Bard uses Ballad of the Magi
Dancer uses (I dunno) Witchunt (FFT Skill)
As both deal with mp they would be corresponding skills. How to exactly do this right? I dont know.
Hello everybody,
I want to present my ideas to new classes and jobs.
I think the current system (weapon = class, job = specialization) should remain as it is. I've just written my own ideas down and didnt paid attention to the classes / jobs from FFXI. FFXIV should use the chance to define new classes and jobs, they should fit into the current gameplay.
New Classes
- Arcanist (Weapon:?)
- Musketeer (Weapon: Rifle, Pistol)
New Jobs
Gladiator -> Samurai
Type / Function: Melee DD
Additional weapon: 2-handed swords
Marauder -> Dark Knight
Type / Function: Melee + Magic DD
Additional weapon: 2-handed hammer
Pugilist -> Assassin
Type / Function: Debuff + Dots + Sneak
Additional Weapon: Hidden Blade
Lancer-> Blue Mage
Type / Function: all-round class (Water-AoE, AoE Heal, MP-withdrawal, Paralyze, etc)
Ranger -> Hunter
Type / Function: Range DD
More: Pet (for example wolf or eagle)
Musketeer -> Artillery
Type / Function: Range AoE DD + Crowd Control
Additional weapon: cannon
Musketeer -> Gunner
Type / Function: Range DD + Dots
Conjurer-> Summoner
Type / Function: Support
Other: various Summonings
Thaumaturge -> Necromancer
Type / Function: Dots + debuffs
Arcanist -> Geomancer
Type / Function: Crowd Control, Traps
Arcanist -> Mystic Knight
Type / Function: Magic Tank
Off-hand: Shield
Dual wield can I have it?
I was a Thief in XI, so I would love to be a Thief again in XIV. :)
Summoner all the way... and a classic SMN job that is damage based, not support/healing/buffing like that FFXI sad excuse of a SMN job... and bring back the Whip as their main weapon like in FFIV!!!
I want them all :D .
I would personally only play Smn and perhaps Thf
Well to be honest a "Classic" Summoner is a mix of dmg/support/healing. The first introduction of the summoner class came from FF3 http://www.finalfantasykingdom.net/f...iiisummons.php
In said game they had "white" "dark" and "Dual" arts to them. White was the supportive/enfeeble type, Dark was the dmg type and Dual was the empowered "Dark" based strike usually an AOE effect.
Even in FF4 while it may have only been one summon Asura was a support type summon.
In FF5 Sylph AOE drain that transfers hp to all party members, Golem Blocks physical damage equal to caster's max hp, Carby reflect, Remora Slow cast on enemies, and Phoenix which was a dmg type that also raised one target to full HP.
In FF6 Kirin did AOE regen, Siren did Silence, Cait Sith did Confusion, Unicorn cast AOE Esuna, Catoblepas did Petrify, Phantom did Invisible, Carbuncle Reflect, Golem protect players from physical dmg, Zona Seeker AOE shell, Seraph AOE cure, Fenrir AOE image, Lakshmi AOE cure, Phoenix AOE Raise and Ragnarok could transformed an enemy into item,
In FF7 just Phoenix
FF8 Siren dmg+silence chance and Carbuncle Reflect
FF9 Phoenix with Raise which effect varies and Carbuncle with reflect and a potential to also add Vanish, haste or Shell based on certain variables.
The "Classic" version of SMN were a good mix of dd/support/enfeeble minus FF4 which didn't have as many supportive summons from 3/5/6 especially 6 which is seen as one of the best FFs had a wide range of supportive based summons. Summoner is suppose to be a balanced mix of both dmg and support if they were just a pure beatdown like BLM then they would be nothing more than a BLM that uses unique looking animations to deal dmg rather than a unique class on it's own which is something the XIV development team doesn't want to do. As they conceptualize each class they have to consider how said class will fit into the game and how it will effect the current classes in game, if they just make SMN something like BLM and it's better then what would be the point of lving THM/BLM.
Thief and mage specialised in enfeebling magic and musketeer.
