It's a lot tougher than hair because they all have different postures and builds.

It isn't about their height. It's about their cute looks combined with their head size to body ratio. Short adults still have relatively small head unlike toddlers. Lalafells have toddler proportions, a wobbly walk and a lot of innocent cuteness by design, even if they are meant to be adults. They look a lot like children. I'm not saying it to be pervy, but rather just stating what I see. In all seriousness they can wear in-game undies all they like and at most I'll chuckle at it.
Here's some comparison pictures with the search words "toddler" and "lalafell". I find them to have the same proportions, like head size, arm length and width and hand size. However, acknowledging their child-like appearance is not the same as sexualizing children. Lalafells are video game characters who behave and talk like adults, doing adult things. The contrast of the youthful body and mature actions and outfits should be nothing more than a source of humor for a healthy mind.
@Fawkes, may I request a Photoshop of the Highlander Hempen set on a female Roegadyn? Great work on the cat girl! :)
I'm for it. I'd love to be able to get the Miqo'te version on Au'Ra.
Since you target my frame of mind. I have worked as a corrections officer at max sec prison, i saw some the worst of humanity and have had to work with ugly things 12 hours a day 4 days a week. Yes i have very strong feelings when it comes to certain issues. However as i stated before i know i'm out voted here, with all the support this subject has garnered it's not hard to imagine it being implemented. I can still dislike it even if i am the minority.
Yes please, I'm all for unlocking the sets! You don't see them used terribly much anymore, since everyone seems to want to wear the set of any race except the one they're playing (myself included). I think this would be refreshing, give us all a bit more variety in our wardrobes.
Put me down as an emphatic "yes, please!!"
I've wanted this for a long time, actually, but I never thought it was ever going to be considered. The races sharing their culture with everyone makes sense to me! :3
I really don't see a reason for these to be race specific. Race gear, sure...but why should the hempen sets be race restricted? They're plain tops and bottoms, and they would add SO much to glamouring if they could be mixed around. I know my glamour options would open up a lot just if I could use the fem Elezen ones. It's not like you'd walk up to a clothing vendor in Ul'dah, grab a cute halter top, and be told you can't wear it because you don't have furry ears...
Yes please to unlocking the set. I've been wanting the Aura one since I saw it. :D
I'm just not that good at photoshop.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Well, I tried.

I think this is a pretty important bit. I'm all for unlocking the sets, but I think it's fair that we should respect the opposing side. Reading some of the replies in this thread are downright cringe-worthy in the way people - for lack of a better way to put it - talk down to anyone who wants the sets to stay as they are.
I am all for unlocking the hempen sets for all races. I love my Miq's attire and wish I could use it on Au'Ra.
Of course I need this. Look at my highlander's sig. It's time he need proper undershirt like midlander's :(
Also I'd love to have Elezen's hempen too
Bro I understand your apprehension about it, but there is a whole lot more gear in the game that pushes this much more than the hempen sets that aren't race locked. Your immediate claims of disgust seem a little misplaced. If you're decrying this, are you decrying the other gear in the game? Should the taffeta sets be racially altered too in order to keep certain races (especially since some au ra can push that "questionably of age" line too). This seems to be the only one that comes with the added baggage of "This is wrong because it allows this one group of players the ability to possibly dress provocatively."
We're not trying to silence you; we're asking you not to slam an entire post of mostly non-lala players as perverts and deviants. Especially when your issue seems to be with a larger (and ultimately valid) problem in the game concerning glamour gear.
double post bc character limts are awful: This isn't be trying to be Devil's Advocate here; I am genuinely curious about this. Is the Hempen set really the problem, or are there more inherent issues with the gear sets and female models. Which is another topic for another thread I know, but that might be a good place to start.
As a mater of fact i do feel that certain gear should be altered for the Lalafell race as whole. Some items were changed in FFXI to accommodate the Tarutaru form better, however I know it will not happen, but seeing some of what has come of it is rather disgusting. (fan art, erp specifically geared to more... disturbing subject matter, ect) The big picture is not often pretty, to be blind to how this can be used is not something i can do. People have clamored on these very forums for the means to play as children. Why something that waddles like a toddler should be in taffeta gear (or any number subligar) is to me vexing.
However this is more on the topic of the Hempen gear, which even i will admit is limited in it's representation of each race. At the moment it is one of two set that do so. It's loss as a unique piece of equipment is literally half of the "racial sets" we currently have access to. In an earlier post i made mention of the idea to expand this list and create gear that was basically more refined versions of the starter gear as a way to so how far our characters have come for creation through adventures and into the Warrior of light while celebrating their racial background.
I fundamentally believe that an experienced Hellsguard Roegadyn would have set of clothing much different that a grizzled Seawolf, it's ludicrous that a Highlander dresses the same as a fresh faced young Midlander, with all the cultural tension between Elezen it's hard to believe that both Duskwight and Wlidwood shop at the same outfitter, Aura Xaela are known as nomads ever traveling and living in rough environments and bloody warfare, the Raen abandoned this life style and live in a valley of mist... they never though to to get fresh clothes/ repair their ragged ensemble?
Aye, in the end it's just a game and it does not have to be taken that serious, here we are 35 pages as of this post debating underwear and it's cultural significance in a make believe world. I simply see all these dev request/ demand threads and sometime wonder if some people actually want to play FFXIV.
Well, if the male bunny suit is anything to go by...

Why not? Even if not a leotard, it would've been nice to get a chippendales inspired outfit since that's about the closest male equivalent to the Playboy Bunny, then all you have to do is unlock the rabbit ears. Or just unlocking the ears at all would be good for most players I think, there's already plenty for a makeshift Chippendale outfit.
I don't think there was one particular thread as large as this one (though this thread mostly exploded after the community rep posted asking for feedback).
It has come up a few times in various threads, and at the PAX East Q&A.
In my opinion, I would like to keep them race-specific as I like the sense of uniqueness they add for each race. Other than starter gear, hempen sets and some of the hairstyles, the game doesn't really have any content that would give the races a unique feeling.
Ofc it's a matter of opinion, but personally, I like that each race has those small things that makes them feel unique.
tl;dr I like the uniqueness of the hempen sets.
Strongly feel that the hempen set styles should be unlocked! More options and more variety is good, and some of those items are just amazing -- for example, the au ra hempen underpants are an awesome waist-wrap, but I hardly ever see it used.
(Tossing in a request for them to be un-gender-locked, too!)
I'd like this very much. gib moar glamours pls
I've yet to understand why people think simple things like tank tops are worthy of being unique. Can you imagine this trait being applied to other clothes? "Only highlanders may have open shirts, and only lalafel may wear shorts."
It's silly.
where's the petition to unlock hempen stuff. I wanna scribble my entire server on it
I would love to see the Miqo'te hempen top on au ra. Also slightly modified versions of the males for females would be awesome as well
TBH, I would totally prefer to have customised small clothes. Especially, cotton. Like, being able to wear a men's tee and something that doesn't look it's been yellowed to death with bleach.
