I am ok with oppinions too, but this is just over reacting... you ppl make it sound like they destroyed the game and changed the graphics to wow styled one...
If it was the same case I should quit cause I dont like any head piece currently into the game...
Now see this sentiment i can kind of dig.
As long as really outlandish weapons/armor are the exception and not the rule I'm cool with some wacky and out there stuff coming out once in a while for players to use. And as long as its tied to "Hard" content its all the better.
I personally can't wait to get my grubby mits on one of those axes.
That staff looks awesome, I hope it's got fire potency on it.
Finally some good looking "Fantasy" weapons!!! (Except pugs... it kinda irks me o.O) ... This is exactly what we need to liven up the game^^ Most equipment is really bland atm :P
I think what I was trying to say is that I wasted so much time in Lineage 2 and AION that I really do not want to revisit those memories, even indirectly.
They're supposed to be "bland". What I'd like to see is how Square Enix could push that "bland" envelope without crossing into the garishly stupid.
Then youre lucky cause you play FFXIV
I would honestly expect nothing less from weapons obtained from essentially the God of Fire. The weapons glow like an ember, that's pretty tame IMO. The only other way to really convey fire would be to physically set the weapons ablaze, I think this is the better approach. If the effects were any more subtle then they would be quite dim and would just essentially be black weapons.
Honestly if you don't like the direction the game is taking that much, it may just be time to cut your losses and call it quits. This is the way things are going, it's not going to stop.
The current equipment is far too bland for my tastes. I always justified it as being the base equipment and essentially just what they're throwing at us until the cool stuff comes up. I was pretty disappointed with Flametongue being just a normal sword, it should have had some kind of indication of its namesake, you know like how it is traditionally in FF. Excusing the current gear's bland look as "artistic direction" is a pretty lame excuse. The gear we have now is recycled over and over and occasionally changed slightly. Going back to Flametongue, it's just a slightly modified version of another sword we currently have.
The game needs more unique looking gear, and if that means the weapons from the God of Fire have an ember glow, I'm okay with that. The weapons should convey the power and look of the boss they come from.
Say what you like about the PUG weapons, but those things are gonna hurt when you punch something in the face with them, like spikey knuckle-dusters baby! ;)
Glowing weapons! Oh my how we have been starstruck~
Personally don't mind, and no, I don't think this goes against the class or previous style. Top tier gear should be distinguishable which (in the case this is which I'm assuming this will replace current weapons) I don't see the problem in a stand out piece- that is if it really does become the trump all weapon for now. Always nice to afk in Ul'dah with ;)
+ with a piece like this I can only assume how fun/difficult this battle is going to be <3
LoL someone actually stated the armor and weapons are SUPPOSE to be bland?! ...Wow that's ... oh it's Ren... nvm then xD
Gotta love all the silly arguments against making a final fantasy game ... into a final fantasy game *facepalm* It's sad how many people haven't obviously even played other entries into the series and/or are expecting the game NOT to be turned into one! Tanaka may have wanted a totally different game with very few weak FF elements, but it's known Yoshi is a huge FF fan who wants to make the game into one :D ... Some of you people are just... yuck ... spend less time on the forums and go spend time on other FF games! Maybe you'll actually know what people are talking about in the forums here lol
Exactly that, please SE dont show everything i want to be surprised in every patch, i know they want to keep people playing but we already keep playing because we like the game, i saw other games and im not that interested in those this game has something different that keeps me playing
So please no more showing everything give us the chance to find all while playing, that will change the troll posters to threads that says or ask about things in the game that werent said in the patch notes.
We are only level 50 ffs!!!
Low level gear tends to be 'bland'. To me the detail and work that has gone into even the 'blandest' of gear is awesome.
There have been a lot of concept art and I'm sure they have a fair number of items they've designed that they have yet to introduce. When you fixing a game you don't want to roll out all your eggs before they ready for hatching. There were other types of bows, the trinity arrow etc etc. I bet some ideas were scrapped after balancing...and still others in the pondering stage. There's probably hundreds if not thousands of sketches like the ones you've posted.
Honestly, we would see them in the .dats the day of update (that is pending you look through them) but I really think this release is not as much for the current players but as a marketing to draw in newcomers. Who wouldn't see a glowing ifrit tusked weapon and want to give the game a try? ( ._. pending they hadn't heard too many bad reviews already...)
Nonetheless, I feel its not so much for current as it is for potential~
I like the overall philosophy behind their design, working characteristics of the primal into the weapons themselves. I do have a little bit of an issue with the execution on some of the weapons though. The bow and hand-to-hand weapons specifically are a little too big and could probably be pared down a bit while still maintaining their look. The axe, on the other hand, looks perfect and makes me regret giving up marauder lol.
Either way, I'm not sure why we have to have only one type of design: practical or extravagant. I'm sure there's plenty of room in this game for both just as there was in XI.
I guess it just seems odd for me to be announced it would be coming then never show~ But then again, I work in the gaming industry so I honestly realize how much concept never makes it to production and finished product that never gets shipped... but then again YAY in 21st century we have DLC so it usually just get's pushed back to a later date. After working 8-10hours on an assets to have your producer come in and tell you that it's not getting shipped sucks. Just seems odd to me that it was announced publicly then nothing else said (or did I misunderstand and it was just found posted someplace with no content involving a release?)
I don't really have a personal opinion on the new weapons, but I think it's good for FFXIV.
One of my friend asked me to show him FFXIV last week. I showed him all the classes, one after another, with various pieces of gear (mostly DH and NM gear), and it's first comment was: "The gear looks really dull and unimpressive for someone who has multiple 50's and cleared all content ...".
I think that these types of weapons will appeal to new players, and motivate them to get to 50.
To me these would make for decent crafted gear, pre-endgame or just before getting endgame gear. They are still just as bland as the current gear we have and I wouldn't be motivated to go for any of them unless they were pimped out in stats. They wouldn't stand out by design alone, and in fact we already have some gear that, to me, looks more appealing. I like alot of the Ifrit loot, especially the glow because it's far from overkill but enough to stand out when you go into active mode. Though some of the pieces do look abit 'off', it's a welcome change from the sea of blandness we currently have.
This is tasteful and appropriate in context. I applaud them for finding a meaningful way to deliver bolder-looking gear. WoW's weapon glows were simple horrible particle effects that they threw on top, like fog or blobs of meaningless glowiness, which is far from what we're looking at here. Coming off of Darkhold which had some extremely bland weapons (oh boy, it's a black Bill...), this is a godsend (or is that gods-send?).
By the way, a french dev comfirmed the term "Hard Mode" differenciates the r50 fight from the r30 fight.
I get the feeling the battles won't be spammable in the way that the darkhold was. Perhaps not a cooldown timer persay, but maybe a buildup of grand company leves for a shot at an Ifrit battle?
I'm glad to see a bit more flamboyant weaponry, it's good for motivation to do these fights. It's funny, you hear people say this game needs to be more like a traditional FF game, when FF games have always had weapons that were anything from glowy lightsaber greatswords to gun-swords to swords made of water (and yes, I specifically picked three of the most popular weapons in the series as examples). As soon as the dev team adds some weapons that are actually fantastical, people start decrying it as too garish and impractical.
Even the last FF game that most closely resembled FFXIV in art style, FFXII, had some very ornate and impractical looking weaponry, to say nothing of character equipment, and I liked it that way. I'm all for practical gear for lower levels since that's what lower level gear should look like, as it's the gear you have when your character is still close to a normal realistic level of ability. However, a fantasy game, especially a Final Fantasy game, should have fantastical looking equipment at higher levels. This doesn't mean WoW Football Pads of DOOM, but you'd think the Primal of Fire would have loot that looks hot.
I'd love it if the r50 Ifrit 'hard mode' fight turns out to be hard as nails and takes like, a whole week before a group finally manages to beat him. Then all the people screaming for a hard mode come raging into the forums shouting that it's too hard XD
Ifrit: "So Mr. gladiator tank, think this games too easy then eh?"
*1-shots*
Rest of group: "Oh shi~~~"
Wow the knuckles and bow are way over the top wtf? lol How the hell can an archer even shoot that without falling forward?
Ok Final Conclusion... (so i can get out of Rant mode.)
Killing Ifrit not defeating him is meh, unless they have a really good lore explanation to it and he is not dead.
I've never liked Jesus mobs, Give us a reason to keep going back within the story!
- Glow is ok cos its only when active and not to OTT.
- Lancer weapon looks good it actually has the look of other lances just Fancier.. :)
- All others need to be smaller/less Fat to fit with the style of the game.
(An Seriously with the bow and Pug weapons ... Epic Fail on the chunkiness length is ok I think maybe..! )
- As long as we dont go the way of the huge shoulder pads next its not too bad.
