My intention is not to have peoples voice suppressed but more of a civilised debate structure.

When you are allowed to post as often as you want if you see something you don't like you respond impulsively which can degrade the conversation into an ill mannered debate.

It happens on the forums all the time. I am in no way against discussion I just think they should be more civilised and allow for more people to get their voice in!

You're assuming that people respond impulsively. I see no impulsiveness here, nor "ill mannered debate". It's actually more civil than usual. There are no insults or mudslinging and the personal attacks are milder than the average.

Wanna know what's really detrimental (and frowned upon in any discussion environment)? People that come in improvising themselves self-elected moderators without adding absolutely nothing to the discussion.

I had to delete an earlier pre-post twice and just step away from the thread. Since then the hypocrisy has become as tangible as a Morbol's breath attack.

Hopefully, the opinions on the OP have been fully discussed by those interested and the thread can pass on...

So my original opinion means nothing to you. And at no point did I "self-elect" myself as a moderator! I was just making a suggestion A way to make a more civilised debate!

If you can not see the lack of civility in the comments in this thread you are not understanding a lot of the posts!

For example your original post after the video was to say "what a waste of 30 minutes" and then depict everything that was wrong with the video. A civil way to respond would have been to say "I do not agree with that video and here is how I see the current state of the industry."

Maybe I'm wrong. If I am just say "I don't agree" and we can agree to disagree and leave the argument there without any more discussion!

I'm glad i'm not the only one. This is also the reason I don't post that often. No matter what you do you are told "You are wrong get out of here!"

There's a lot I've wanted to say regarding this topic and FFXIII in general, but yeeeeahh.....rather not turn this into a 30page argument over semantics and "opinions" and all the other nonsense a certain someone is spewing.

It seems to me that you're mistaking slightly heated debate with "lack of civility". They're two different things. Not sugarcoating things has nothing to do with "lack of civility".

Why exactly would you, or anyone on this thread, get offended if I or anyone else define a video made by a random dude on the internet you're not in any way related to a "waste of time" or dare to "depict everything that was wrong with the video"?

I guess at least on someone Shane is quite right (while it's not a good reason to grind a discussion to a halt for the sake of one person that can't hold his personal grudges at bay but feels the need to post just to personally attack someone without adding absolutely nothing to the topic at hand), so I have to give him that.

Some people enjoy sugar coating, some people enjoy blunt honesty. I'm a fan of the second option.

I believe there's a difference between aggressiveness and honesty. The first is a deliberate act of aggression towards someone, the second tells things as one sees them without compromising with needless sugar coating. Granted, not everyone can stomach it. But discussion on deep topics does require a nicely solid stomach.

It is the glass half full or empty question.

You're quite right. I've always been a "glass half full" kind of person, which also extend to my appreciation of video games (or any other form of entertainment really), to get back on topic.

If had fun with a game, then it's a positive experience. It may not be perfect or even near to perfect (and I definitely criticize when it's due), but if it provided me with entertainment, I see no reason to condemn it as a blight upon humanity as some do.

I believe due to that I have a lot more fun that many do, mind you :D
