Wouldn't say the game is dying. Loosing wow players from the exodus times returning to wow perhaps. But its still gaining new mmo players besides millenials. They will choose what they think is fun and looks cool. Regardless of what millenials who grew up with wow will say. (No i don't mean you. Just in a general sense)

You're looking at $110 for a new player just to start the game. Nobody is going to drop this much on it.

Because it's not the story MMO? It's just a regular MMO, every MMO has the story, WoW also has the story but you're usually not forced to shove it down your throat.

Like for me personally whether story skip will be included or not doesn't matters, I already levelled everything I want, skipped everything I want, it's just people come to the game and they just drop it at level 20-30 because it's literally boring and as expansion add up and it becomes harder and harder to get into the game we just pretty much have no "fresh blood" and rely on veterans to continue playing

Thats a wild take saying final fantasy 14 isn't a story mmo. What ive been doing for 4 months now then? It clearly isn't so boring either considering i am still here, In fact i left wow because -it- was boring. and ive stayed here way beyond level 30. So.. I wouldn't say this is a general default for the entire mmo population. sorry to say. But i do agree that expecting a new player to go trough 4 expansions of msq can be off putting.

Are you saying that you're doing story for 4 months and still did not finish it?

Either way about ffxiv not being story mmo. You get an expansion every 2 years that has like 2 weeks (if you only do evening after-work gaming session, if you're nolifing it you'll be done in few days) worth of story and that's if you do everything. The rest of your activities will not be related to the story, no matter how you look at it.

Every MMO has story but story is really not the first thing that players after when they come into MMO. After all if you want a good story you have a choose of few dozens of games including ones that have for example fully voiced story, while if you're looking for an mmo you realistically have only few candidates to choose from.

Huh.. I am unemployed. I have been no lifing the game since january playing well over 8 hours a day and i have indeed not finished the story yet. You can look up my character on the lodestone and see what msq i am on. I will admit i haven't only done the msq, Otherwise I would have burned out. But i do dedicate several hours a day doing it still. When i finish the msq then yes. I agree that once you finish the MSQ, the game becomes about the endgame and the grind for gear. But the story is still the 'heavy lifter' of what makes the game what it is.

When you say story isn't the first thing players are after in an mmo, Thats is a broad statement and generalizastion to make. One that i really disagree with. I think todays wow has made what you say true.. a wow player looking for a new mmo would propably agree with you. But even them. most of them who played since 2005 where once passionate hyped fans who joined the mmo world because of the story once. I remember the hype around the release of every expansion. And it wasn't the new dungeons and raids we where hyped for. it was the story and the epic cinematics etc. The endgame wouldn't be as enticing if they weren't a part of the games epic story. And it was all everyone talked about.

One could also say. if all one cared about was just pushing numbers and killing bosses and gearing a character was all one wanted. they could instead choose other games rather than immersive story driven mmo games. And there is nothing wrong with choosing those other story driven games either. But too many of us, the appeal of an MMO is the immersion. Being part of a living, breathing story that is shared with thousands of other players makes the world feel real. ffxiv isn't just an mmo with a story it’s a Final Fantasy game first, and an MMO second. That's exactly why so many of us are here i think. At least i am.

Perhaps, but my feeling is that the story plays a heavier role in FF14, and that's typically the aspect the vast majority of people hype up.

I cannot fathom why someone would play a Final Fantasy game just to skip the story.

How about this. We solve the issue entirely.

1.) no level/story skips at all

or

2.) lock the ability to purchase a skip to those whose lodestone's register that they have completed the title quest of an expansion.
