The epilogue being crammed into field notes is really weird.
I'm of the mindset it's being used to set up the next thing that happens with the beastmasters and Noah. After all, there's a chance that the team may still use the characters in the future without Matsuno being there (especially if he left them notes on how he'd like to see it continue).
I would be one of those people and it's because different stories give different levels of exposition. Ivalice gives too much; NieR doesn't give you enough.
(Or maybe it would be enough if the story felt intriguing and the characters weren't so flat. But again, there's a lack of exposition in the form of spending time with them to gain any appreciation of them.)
In my case, I want to see all the side stories because they add to the overall picture of the world and what is going on around the edges of the main story. I'm quite disappointed that they've locked chunks of story behind grinding these field instances – I never did muster up the effort to get beyond the first phase of Eureka, and I'm not sure whether to bother with Zadnor either, but I... well, actually I can't say I want to see the end of this plotline either, because I don't feel all that invested in the characters or what happens to them, but I hope there aren't going to be callbacks to it in Endwalker that I would miss. Same with Eureka, and the Weapon trials too – I stalled at Sapphire Weapon and have no actual desire to go back to it.
Somehow almost all of the side plots in this current round of endgame have failed to engage me – Weapons, Bozja, NieR... Eden is the only one I enjoyed, but that had the ongoing Scions in it. I've spent far more time on alts than endgame content in this cycle, although that might have happened anyway.
Still, the fact that Ishikawa said during the Fan Fest panel that prettymuch every side story would get some kind of nod in Endwalker, I feel like I need to get through it at some point. But I still don't want to.
This right here is one of my biggest problem with 14. With how they make each nation feel same-y. Back when I'm still doing early arr, the three nations (ul'dah, limsa, Gridania) are interesting because of how different and flawed they are. Ishgard and Ala mhigo was pretty interesting too before we visited it. Only kugane that imo isn't really changed that much.
I'm not really asking for witcher 3 level of moral ambiguity, but seeing all these nations becoming goody two shoes is disappointing me. I hope this is just a case of them uniting against common enemy, and in 7.0 they will start having conflicts again.
I'm also not looking forward to see sharlayan get the ishgard v.2 treatment in 6.0, though judging by past records it's going to happen.
Would be sad if we indeed, didn't get more Ivalice because as interesting as the Bozja and raid series was, it... kinda felt like setup to something much bigger?
Although I can't say for sure what happened, depending on what happened, it would be the second time now they've shafted him. He was perfectly polite and to the point about it. Inviting Yoko Taro over him seems to be based on his current popularity and the fact that Nier Replicant came out just recently. I thought the Nier raids were poorly integrated lorewise, and just okay in terms of the actual content. Not bad, by any stretch, but they were just inserted there with little effort to connect them to the setting.
Exactly. It provides a lot more world-building context. A lot of stuff in the main story or side quests, by contrast, has to wait for the EE to come do it, and that's if they release one this time round.
Sad about Ivalice. More sad to see people pick up a word heavy game and proceed to complain when they have to read.
Agreed! Just saw this thread and it makes me sad…
FFT is probably my all time favorite game, and I absolutely love the world of Ivalice! I thoroughly enjoyed FF12, and learning that there was a tie-in to that story in this game is one of the factors that brought me here.
I’m still really excited for when I get to the Ivalice storyline, but knowing it ends… is a bit disappointing. >_<
If we are not going to Ivalice, I still wish we can see Lyon in the main story of Endwalker, given the situation that happened in Bazja. He was one of my favorite characters in the entire thing, probably more so than any of the protagonist support cast we had going through the content.
