An NPC you truly hate with passion

..... "Any" enemy NPC of which who I have just thoroughly trounced who then gives a drawn out monolog of why they were such a bad person and how even though I beat them squarely, they will then stand up, give a "You haven't seen the last of me" speech, and then run off.....

I want to put an arrow between their eyes at their second "<pant>" while they are still on their knee and be rid of them!!!!!! :mad:

Alphinaud.

Minfilia.

She brings nothing to the table in lines of fighting. She is a poor leader. She is a liability getting captured so many times. And she specifically says she doesn't want to go into y'stola's light then later retorts saying she is more than happy to have done it.

If Yotsuyu is as braindead as she appears to be in the patch trailer, she is likely to knock Minfilia out of the top spot for me. She was a decent enough villain (better than Zenos at least) even if she did have the clichéd oh-so-tragic-backstory excuse, but amnesia is such a cheap, over-used plot device I despise it on principle. And, from the bit of it we've glimpsed so far, it doesn't seem to be implemented in this case in such a way to make me change my mind about it.

I'm trying to reserve judgement on Lyse until her story arc finishes, but she's definitely my least-liked NPC right now. I'm a fan of wide-eyed optimists getting a little tempered by reality but so far Lyse gets rewarded for her innocent "POWER OF FRIENDSHIP FOR VICTORY!!" ideals far more often than she's left with food for thought. I don't want to see her broken by a cruel world like Yotsuyu was, but you can't lead a nation out of rebellion and into stability with vague platitudes of love and acceptance for all - enemies included. Hopefully this gets addressed in the MSQ and she grows to be a better person for having to confront her shortcomings, like Alphinaud did. The populace of Ala Mhigo certainly seem upset and unsure of what she's doing and only The Bull can get them to disperse right now. Hopefully Lyse can earn their trust with her own actions and words one day. And my good-will as well.

Also, gotta whole-heartedly agree with Rymm above me- crappy amnesia to total character redemption gambits belong in soap operas. Yotsusyu could have been interesting if her arc was something more along the lines of learning to forgive, and eventually, atone... but I guess only Fordola's allowed to do that. Instead it looks like we're going to get some horrible arc involving everyone forgiving a woman who's no longer herself. Amnesia doesn't even work that way, people! It's cheap and lazy writing, in my opinion. I hope I get pleasantly surprised and will so refrain from judgement. But I'd rather have her stay dead, even if it meant Gosetsu couldn't come back. (His sacrifice might have more weight if that had been the case as well, but that's neither here nor there.)

Since Lyse and Yotsuyu are technically still pending I'm going to have to go on record of saying I strongly dislike Y'shtola. I have no idea why people like her unless they're really into Mysterious Woman character archetypes. She's boring, uninspiring, and the only thing I've ever agreed with her on was when she called Lyse out on gathering up a bunch of tired and wounded Scions for a meeting that didn't have to happen. I could easily do with seeing less of her, far less. SB was a blessing in that regard- since the Scions got taken out early, I didn't have to deal with her making vague statements and killing any opportunity for levity at every turn. As annoying as Lyse's naivete and fist clenching was, at least it was a different kind of irritation from the kind that Y'shtola brings to the proceedings.

Lyse and Minfilia.

I don't know if I hate any of them with passion.

But if I had to pick ones that do aggravate me.

Lyse - too childish and without Papalymo to tell her when she's being wrong it feels like everyone else is kind of coddling her ideals. I preferred her as Yda that's for sure.
New Yotsuyu - Amnesia? Really...ugh. I enjoyed her as a villain and thought her "death" was a really good ending for her, having bet on something she couldn't fully control and losing. Her "end" was both epic and not epic because she wasn't a boss fight. This fit her so much because she came to rise by circumstance and manipulation rather than through her own force. It was so fitting.... Maybe it's not even the amnesia that bothers me, just ruining an ending that fit her character so well.

I never understood the love for Y'shtola as I felt she was bland and didn't usually bring much interesting insight to anything, instead repeating or reiterating, very much like Minfillia just without the smiliness, but neither one of them annoyed me. They were just "there". Y'shtola did get a bit better in HW and I'm hoping she'll get off the "meh" list someday if they bring her back in the spotlight with a really good arc.

Then there are characters I didn't like but grew to like as they grew, like Alphinaud and Alisaie.

Hate? None. But I'm tired of The Ascians. Their plot has been dragging out for so long I don't care anymore.

FINALLY ! I thought I was the only one who hated these guys. Plus they dare inhabit the body of Alexander, aka the best summon in the FF series.

Other than that I wouldn't say I hate her but I couldn't care less about Lyse. Her revelation about impersonating her sister came out of nowhere and was just random. I mean what was the point of all this stuff about her dead sister ? And then afterwards she became a beyond average character.
She was more fun and interesting as Yde and with Papalymo.

Also Minfilia : "Do this, do that while I stay here and do nothing. Also bye b*tches I'm a crystal now lol."

For me it's Yotsuyu and Fordola because they were evil as Hell and are given a story to have us forgive them for their truly evil actions. I do not want to forgive them. I want their heads on a pike! Please let me kill them!

I had the same feeling for Laurentius. Then we forgave him and look what happened. Traitorous bastard needed to die.

They did a similar thing with Ysayle and made us forgive her, now she's beloved. I hate this trope. Stop using it. Let me kill Fordola & Yotsuyu!
