It really is. The only saving grace for those who already have it is to wait a few weeks and upgrade to the ilvl 200 set.

And just to correct myself above. Don't craft/buy the Carbonweave set. As you won't be able to advanced meld, the max stats are: 843/800. It's still doable with Beet Soup HQ, but you'll need 16 V materia. So yeah... I don't recommend it, xD

So basically as far as catch up goes, you still have to craft and pentameld all the same 170 gear to be able to craft the new crafting gear? The only 'catch up' part is that the mats are cheaper and the materia is easier to get?

Okay, looking at it myself I see it's very easy to get to the crafting cap with 180 armor, if you're using max melded i170 accessories and offhand, and have the ilvl 200 red scrip main hand.

i understand but with 170 MT+OT (pentameld), full ACC 170 (pentameld) + waist 170 (penta) and the rest new omni 170 i think u can get the cap obviously + 20/20 from soul,

I think the bigger point is that it's a way to skip the pentamelding white pieces to get a decent/reliable 2 star HQ set. Especially with how easily favor mats drop in the treasure map dungeon, the carbonweave is a cheap and easy stop gap to make your own 170 set.

I meet the basic crafting requirements for Ironworks gear on Goldsmith, Leatherworker, and Weaver, so I'm not worried about that.

What I am worried about is Glass Fiber.
In order to make the ironworks gear (crafting and gathering both), we need a ton of glass fiber. And it seems pretty challenging to get it.
On the MB on my server, 1 piece is selling for about 250k.

It will also take a little more than 8000 Esoterics to get HQ versions for the mats necessary to make the gear.

I still don't know the requirements for gathering Meteorite and Crystallized Sap (been focusing on easier ones first), but I am really hoping it is gatherable with just the Blue Scrip (previously red scrip) gathering gear and balanced / weighted off-hand tools.

You're right. If you don't overmeld at all and use food, you'll just make the requirements. So the Carbonweave does have a use.

You can get the Meteorite and Crystal Sap easily with a few i180 pieces. As for the 8000 eso's if you have a 3 star capable of HQing those mats without the HQ mats you will be able to cut down on the eso requirement or buy the mats which were pretty cheap on Ultros. As for the Glass fiber those are about 650k a pop and Luminous Fibers 3mil. xD

I wouldn't be too concerned about Eso mats. Non-crafters will supply plenty of those to the markets.

Glass fibers are going for 1 mil on my server, but that will only go down. Unlike Ehcatl Sealant, you can get those with no reputation, skill, or effort (so far all NQ 300-400 progress lvl 50 crafts). I'll probably take a month or so to just sell those on the markets and buy some back later when people who care about having the latest gear first have it.

Wait what.. carbonweave set can't be overmelded?
Isn't all crafted gear supposed to be overmeldable?

Yeah lovely isn't it - the ONLY crafted set (that I'm aware of) that doesn't allow overmelding. I made myself a set and then realized this. Oh well, at least I can use them on my non-specialists and continue to work on my LTW and WVR so I can make myself the i190 set.
