Novice Network Feedback for SE

Originally when I heard this idea I thought it was pretty cool, but my brother starts over frequently so I got to witness the Novice chat. The Novices are so afraid to say anything to mentors that barely any of them ask for help, and when they do the mentors, at least most of them anyway complain and the good mentors get kicked if they call the others on abusing their power.

Examples:

A novice asked for help with fates, one, and I mean exactly one mentor said yes, and it was followed by a sea of no. People complaining about how helping them didn't get them anything or how they didn't want to do low level fates, that they wanted to do high level fates.

First the novice system isn't for your benefit, it's for you to help new players so why am I hearing all this complaining about you doing the job you signed up for, no one made you become a mentor, you can leave anytime you want.

Next a mentor asked for advice about the new Alexander fight, and she was kicked for it, they said it was because the chat was to help new players and not the mentors. I believe it could have been used to explain raids and dungeons to the new players, but let's move on.

The same person who kicked her then turned right around and asked for a raid party for said Alexander fight, and when he was called on it by another mentor, he kicked that mentor.

This kick system is being abused and almost no one is being helped.

Honestly at this point I feel this chat channel should be moderated by a GM permanently, so that they can regulate the whole thing better and kick the "mentors" who aren't actually interested in being helpful, making space for the people who really want to be there.

At the very least the channel should be opt-in instead of automatic joining, and have an ability to leave at will for both mentors and sprouts.

I posted a few pages ago that on our server the Mentor system has been relatively functional apart from a few issues in regards to tact which were quickly sorted out between those of us who commonly find ourselves in the Novice chat. I don't know if it is that everyone on our server is completely rational and reasonable and genuine, or the majority of the people here feel the need to find the worst examples and hold them as gospel.

The other thing I find the most comical is that there is zero, absolutely zero, feedback from any novices in this thread or in any other. This thread and the numerous others are a collective of people who not only aren't mentors but those who spent the weeks leading up to the system complaining that they were excluded and doomsaying the entire function.

You can't objectively state that a system is utterly flawed with input from a bunch of people who are just one perspective of the whole thing. Novice feedback for this feature is what matters, not your opinions or gripes with how it is operating. Your assumptions on behalf of them is short-sighted at best. It's existed for three whole days, let the thing breathe and allow for functional feedback from those who the system is for and about: the novices.

You know, maybe I was being unfair, but that's how it is on my server and truthfully most of the Novices probably don't know about the Lodestone or the forums yet, I've met vets who didn't know about them either.

It's unfortunate that there are issues, honestly there appear to be and I can only objectively talk about my experience. The other unfortunate part is that the most vocal in situations such as these are the people who feel the need to complain or point out how they were wronged.

It's sensationalism. Negative topics seek to garner others who share in that aspect. Rarely do players actively feel the need to go out of their way to say a system is working as intended. I read some of the responses, put out positive feedback, but as I read this thread has just become a collective trash fire of people pointing out their personal bad experiences. Which are subjective, not functional.

Oh, and the OP got banned because as the GM stated it wasn't his first offense for something. He did something prior to whatever this whole mess was that got him his warning. That's why he got the ban, not just because the system is new.

Nothing happened to me, and since my brother actually isn't a Novice he didn't need to ask for help, we just so happened to catch that a bunch of people were being kicked from the chat so out of curiosity we took a look at what was going on, and I don't know who decides who gets to be in charge of the chat, but the guy in charge of this particular chat or at least the guy who seemed to be in charge was abusing his power, because everyone he kicked were people who had simple disagreements with him or people who called him on the abuse.

I really do not think i will ever get the chance to connect until it dies down i guess :(
So @ Judah, i could not offer any advice to this thread because i cannot even get on the darn network.
