Usually you email it to yourself, copy the code, and then paste it for someone else to use, I think.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Once you have bought the game, but BEFORE you pay for additional subscription,
--> Go to Mog Station
--> Go to "Your Account",
--> find the tab that says "Enter Recruitment Code", and paste the code in.
--> It should show [You have successfully entered your recruitment code.]

Now if you want the bonus items immediately, and not after 30 days,
--> Buy a time-card (such as a 60-day one) and enter that under you account (otherwise you will have to wait until the included 30 days of free time runs out, and automatic subscription to activate, if you have set that up)
--> Enter game, find a moogle delivery to claim.

It's one code per person, I think. Which is why some of the posts here have multiple codes, since you need a total of 15 feathers for the Twintania mount. Which is three people if you don't want to wait to see if the new players sub for long enough for the bonuses. So you'd need to generate a new code for each new person, and you can recruit up to five people total before you won't get any more feathers... at least that's my understanding.

I'm just trying for the Amber Draught, myself, so I just need a measly eight - so I'm fine if I can get just the one code used.
