What difference does the city of your major customer base make? I was under the understanding that no matter in what city your retainer sold items the MB is universal.
City tax?

If you're in the same city that the retainer is situated in, you don't pay the 5% tax when buying.
Seller will still pay the tax of course.
If you want to sell a bunch of shards, try 2 retainers in 2 different cities and list it at the same price and stack size, you'll see that Limsa sells out a lot faster than any other because it's a crafting hub.
When it comes to higher priced goods, you can even sell it for 5-10k higher than your competition. People who're spending hundreds of thousand or even millions of gil to buy items from MB aren't likely to teleport over to a different city just to save a few thousand minus the cost of teleport.
Although I don't specialize in leve turn-ins because of its slow rotation and bulk selling nature. I suppose you could even choose the city based on leve quests also. i.e. sell LTW leve turn-ins from Gridania
Why is it that usually (on crafted items) the crafters name show's up, but other times it doesn't.
For example, about 95% of the glam prisms I see have the crafters name on the listing. But, every once in awhile, I see items listed that don't have a name associated with them.
I think some of them may just be bugged, and others could be a server transferred item.
I also thought maybe mixing the stack might do something to the name tags like take 10 that was made by me, take 10 that was made by you and add the stack together, I haven't had the chance to try it so I don't know what that does for sure.
Also the mentality of
"Everyone who prices lower than me r a scrub undercutter & ppl who price more than me r greedy bastards that don't need the gil" needs to be toned down a bit lol.
Just maybe then SE can consider "updating" the MB in the future.
Doesn't matter how much they undercut or over price things, the moment u care about what others do you fall into tht mentality group.
Yep and that bitterness is what keeps me in the black. Most people would come to my market and go "this damn scrub just won't go away UGGGGGH" and move on.
It keeps my future interests in check :) Once I've identified how many competitors I have in the market, I'll do that until people drop out, then readjust the prices.. Some will come back in a week or two, but I do that once more.. Usually people don't wanna make a whole bunch of item only to sell it to break even. If they buy me out, that's even better because then I can drive them to resort to selling it for a loss. Of course, in order to keep this going you need to have more efficient methods to making the items (gatherers with bulk deals, different ways of obtaining the base mats, etc.) than your competition, or just have a deep wallet and expect to lose some money for future gains.
I find it laughable when I'm getting rid of too much overstock.. 99 of whatever.. listing it at 20% lower than the lowest price and 2 minutes later someone with 2 items for sale undercuts.. they bring the market down competing for nothing. Crafters have an advantage when selling crafting items as well because they know the quantities to sell in.. ie.. packs of 2, 4, 10.. etc.. someone is selling packs of 10 at 20k.. sell packs of 2 at 24k.. works alot better.. Aggressive undercutting is also a tactic for discouraging competition.. After a while, your competition will dread seeing your retainer's name :D Basically if you want to market force.. better refine your market strategies.. that includes undercutters. btw I remember seeing a post about master costing 180k ish to make.. hope he's not talking about mastercraft demimateria. :P costs me 0 gil to make.. glory of the gatherer/crafter..
what a great business strategy OP, buying out the undercutters then re-selling in the morning when they have gone to bed. You must be literally raking in the gils.
why on earth have you come on to the forums to reveal your secrets (and seemingly to complain about it)? Doesn't seem like very sound business sense. surely you'd want it to long continue, and keep quiet?
Oh wait, probably because it doesn't pan out like that at all, and you've just overpriced your item to begin with
