So, whats left of the original FFXIV?

Do you remember when SP was based on % of damage you did compared to the rest of your pt, and if all you did was heal and enhance you got 0 SP in a pt. I think we should be getting a little more sp at the moment from leve-mobs, but it's definatly better than what it was at the start.

It was never like that. At one point it was 100% based on luck I could do 5% of the dmg and cap my SP at 500 while someone else could do 95% of the dmg and get 200 sp. As far as healing mages used to only use aoe Cure/sac I and they asked all players to stand in the line of fire so they would have a chance to get more SP from each mob.


Those were the 15 man party Mistbeard Cove Blind Eft party days.

Actually you completely missed what the openning is. It's "The Echo" that the Hyur is experiancing. He is seeing the past while holding a leve basically giving him a hint that completing the leve (grinding) will bring him further to completing his main journey (the campaign). I think it pretty much fits the game.

I don't think they've improved the storytelling at all since launch which is a shame because you see those story bits months apart and can't re-view them without youtube. The story also needs a clear ending to be any good and it definitely needs characters that stand out.

Wait a minute these grand companies have slightly more prominent characters so there is hope. I really hope they think first how this all is going to end before writing more stuff as they go along. Soap-opera style writing is not really what makes FF titles good.



They introduced a lot of factions and complex ideas just by name in the main mission so I hope they make a lot more compulsory missions that explain these more as you go along. XI's missions for example introduced you to you're own city's guilds and characters but XIV just mentions them.

I'm no writer but I bet it's pretty writing 101 to make you care about the characters and the environment you're living with before you're tasked with saving them.

Its ridiculous how many people are still replying to the one post about the auto attack haha Wish everyone would read all the posts first before stating something that has been killed over and over again thus far on this thread. Then again.......do I now fall into this category since I made a post about it o.O;;; Not the same but....haha

Huh? The game isnt over so why would it have a clear ending right now? Of course they have something planned and already written. Although that was with the old team so perhaps its a little different now? Although the writer probably did not change. I agree with that they need more prominent characters in the story. Dont want to compare to 11 BUT they had so many cool characters and you would not only see them in the main stories but some times expansion or small quests. That really added to their presence which we need here. At least we got Cid back! =D

This is what I mean when I say that MMO player's are used to lower standards than single player game players.
Like XI and every other FF game I've bought until this point I thought the game should have a complete story from beginning to end when it's for sale.

But I do agree with you that the characters should stand out more in the main storyline. The number of missions is so small they should definitely add more in between massive amounts of required grinding and they should let player's skill level decide what content they can or cannot do and not decide these things for us by setting cap-triggers.

Darling, what SE did to FFXIII is more akin to rape with a toilet plunger than streamlining. SE made quite possibly every wrong decision in regards to story, character design, game design, level design, game mechanics, and the genre.

I don't know how it came to be that they are coming up with XIII-2. I cried for humanity when I heard that.

But see, I agree that they should go back to making quality v.s. quantity.

Hopefully this disaster with XIV has taught them a lesson about that. ( = =; Although the fact that XIII-2 is coming out the way it is makes me think otherwise...)

... Sorry... FFXIII instills such rage within me...

If someone were to ask me what has changed (and what is being changed soon) I would have to say... everything. I seriously can not think of something in FFXIV aside from the actual modeling of the weapons and armor that hasn't undergone a serious change since last year.

I hope that the community knows just what kind of work that is for the dev team of FFXIV. Mad props for the hard work!

So, lets do what we can here to get FFXIV re-reviewed when PS3 release hits. They at least deserve that much.

Nothing more than a "Mog is in a good mood" thread, and a thank you to the people who are putting time into making FFXIV a better place. Devs, players, community members, forum posters, everyone.

Several points my good Sir!

1. FFXI's storyline does have completeness. Each expansion and set of main quests has a beginning, middle, and end. The story lines in each case are vivid and the characters memorable.
I remember having a lot of good memories with nation quests, Zilart, CoP, ToAU, WotG, and now Abyssea. (the three tiny expansions ACP, MKE, ASA were fun but not what I consider "main".) I mean the main ones... You grew attached to those characters, a lot and when you beat them there was a solid sense of accomplishment.
So I wouldn't say MMO players are used to lower standards at all, but I think in this case it really is SE needs to not drop the ball ... rather stop dropping the ball.

2. I agree that the number of missions is small, but more than that... They're just all half baked. In XI when you started nation quests you stuck to your nation, despite having certain missions that bled in with other nations- i.e. Rank 5 Shadow Lord Fight.

In XIV you start off at a nation, and for 2/3 nations you have a pretty sweet setup and then... they melt together. You get a fairly useless NPC companion and you lose all originality. I won't even go into how badly they dropped the ball with Gridania... it still makes me cry.

3. Right again Sir Seif but only partly?! They need to add more in between quests and missions regarding the nations and their place in the main storyline!

However... they already have skill requirements in regards to what content you can/cannot do. It doesn't work very well because the leveling is all weird. So it becomes frustrating and disjointed and any hope of entering the flow state or becoming attached to an NPC is shot.

XI had level requirements for their missions but because the way you leveled up in the game you didn't feel them and was able to progress through the missions/quests smoothly.
