SE WAKE UP! 90% of the lost subscriber base was expecting FFXI-2!

The best years of my MMO life was in 2004. FFXI couldn't be touched compared to any other MMO.

The fear of dying so you wouldn't lose XP and down-level. Nothing topped the sound of down-leveling when you heard a person from another party next to yours die and lost his armor because he dropped a level.

I remember when mobs would chase you all the way to end zone and would turn around and slaughter other parties until it was killed instead of vanishing like it does now.

I stopped playing when they introduced Level-sync. Personally, that killed it for me.

I just wish FFXIV had SOME of the mechanics that made FFXI so successful.

When FFXIV fixes the party-based system and makes it more like FFXI is when I'll take this game seriously. And throw in an AH too. That wouldn't hurt either.

For now, all I can do is wait.

(Yawn) I am still playing, and I only played FFXI for 2 weeks. Yes, that's NOT years, weeks. Prove the hearsay or you're just another troll to me.

Argh just stated the truth in an exaggerated way and attracted pages and pages of butthurt fanboys.

I think this thread reveals the state of the community and the game the best: everyone got very personal opinions on what of this game is good or bad and what should be done, but none of you can deny that the right choice for SE was to make FFXI-2. Marketing, gaming ideals or whatever side you look at it from, FFXIV is the result of greed and deep misdirection.

A failure. A wrong game.

Their only hope is to go back to what worked well, like the hundreds of mmorpgs before FFXIV that copied WoW in an attempt to be popular. Regardless, they can't make FFXI-2 not even if they want to now, but this doesn't change the fact that they should have done so from the start.

FFXIV official forums in a nutshell. People who criticize the game are instantly trolling while those who defend it are instantly white knights. Nobody wins and the game still sucks.

I think the main reason why i see ffxi-II posts so often, or people suggesting that most ffxi players (now) want ffxi-reloaded, is, that since the game caused major disappointment among most players (including a lot of ffxi players) its only natural, that they compare it more and more to existing games or the games they played before. Also there are so many things similar to ffxi as well, and VERY obvious.

I don't think so many people really want the same game with better graphics they played for 7-8 years.
But if a company publishes a title that claims to be so different, next-generation (lol to that) and looking at it not even closely, it has just way too many similarities to the former online title, no wonder they have to face the direct comparison to their older title, which was developed on/further for so many years, especially on the content side.

The statement " ffxiv is just different " is wrong. and telling people, not to embrace a brand new game sounds a bit weird to me, since there isnt anything breathtaking or ALL NEW in that game at all.

- The armory system is a modified job-changing system. (i like it though , its missing uniqueness imho)
So its not that new. - we have that in many other mmos - better working and thought through though
- the Characters are almost the same as in ffxi. They tried to make changes by putting some weak stories and a different
background to the characters, but that doesnt change the fact it being an ffxi copy, since they dindt even put male kitties and female Galka in it. They just cut Galka tails... ouch
- The Battlesystem feels like a mix of ffxi and a lot of other mmos currently on the market, but not special or unique. more messed up and not very intuitive.
- Some mobs are all new, but some are the exact copy in HD, i dont know why ppl keep saying that there is so much new stuff in that game?. So even there i see lack of creativity. Or they wanted it that way, but then it is a ffxi-II, unlike other ff titles who felt much more different, well this ... doesnt.
- the starting areas are like windy, bastok and sandy, just that you dont identify with one of the cities, even after playing the mainquests. Ishgard is like jeuno in the WotG expansion - also not accessable (lol)
- Battle leves are something like dayly quests- the "books" in ffxi.

... and so on

... and i DO prefer a FFXI-II polished for the start over some half-thought-through tries to create something new-ish.
I would have loved to see completely different regions as "Starter" regions though, but well it is at it is now and i do hope they make the best out of it, or change at least some parts so the maps and environment feels at least all different. But unless they change like 80% of the game it will always be a ffxi copy (which is ok for me).
I do hope that this copy gets creative content over time, better gameplay etc... so everyone can enjoy it and we get a decent player base so SE is interested in maintaining the game at a high lvl- which will be very important for future content and support.

So far FFXIV doesnt offer anything really new or challenging at all. a lot of good things from ffxi or other mmos was just left out and replaced with... well... nothing basicly or something that doenst work which is about to get changed. (i do like crafting though, still way too slow though- also being changed i think)

Im all for new ways in a game or an mmo but no matter how hard people try to put it, ffxiv didnt try anything new at all, one has to face the facts here. And this is exactly why people are impatient, and treating it harder then many other games. Because it CLAIMS to be THE next-gen-mmo and atm it is a loveless ffxi- copy without soul (yet) and enough content (yet).

If that game started as a F2P game, it would have been shut down 1-2 months after start. Since barely enough ppl for one server would have stayed if it was free to download... i know some will try to deny that but thats the reason the game is free now, since ppl canceled their subs massivly.

FFXIV IS THE NEXT-GEN MMO - in terms of hardwarehungryness only though -

oh and btw, im a ff fan, thats why i share my thoughts since i want ffxiv to be my future mmo and the mmo of many friends, who left already... and i dont think Yoshi-P (the ffxiv new hero, even though he just started and nobody knows where this all is goin to) needs more people (i hate the term fanboys, since i thought i was one myself, only one who doesnt swallow every shit he gets presented) to praising the mindless quests that were added? Do you really want more of them? If we get more of them... i dont see a reason why a final fantasy fan would stay if he/she can have a polished mmo with exactly the same mindless quests elsewhere... If that isnt made clear the nxt update will have 20 more quests, perhaps this time the number of mobs to be killed will be 6 then?

lmao are you serious? You honestly think that was their BEST option? Yea let's just make a game like ffxi just to get worst criticism and even less players this time around. Fact: MMOs made in this age need OPTIONS, CONTENT, and IMMERSION while creating a unique experience to be truly successful. FFXI had immersion and some good content BUT the options were very limited. Its Go hard or go home attitude will NOT survive in this MMO generation with all these great MMOs coming out.

edit: Just because the old Dev team made some really blind moves doesn't mean their BEST option is making it ffxi-2 for that would solve nothing.

No, I definitely wasn't expecting XI-2, and I don't want the future to be XI-2.

90% of the subscriber base has long quit for the exact reasons you see in front of your screen whenever you log into the game...these same reasons you are trying to defend. the ones still playing are only doing so because the game is free.

FFXIV was purposely designed to avoid everything that defined FFXI. it is a general statement (and factually correct one) of why it died, hard. demanding a continuation of what killed FFXIV is insanity.

1. I like the game in it's current state but I know it can and will get better.

4. I defend the "copy/paste" world because I really don't see what everyone's complaining about. Then again I'm not a graphics whore so yeah...

6. The armoury system allows for more uniqueness than any other MMO I've ever seen. You can build the class you want the way you want, with a large deal of grey area for what's good and what's bad.

7. I walk most everywhere but teleporting is nice when you're in a hurry. FFXI totally didn't have teleporting at all, oh wait...

8. The times are changing and so is even FFXIV's party system.

9. People should play well for the sake of playing well, obnoxious death penalty or not. In other games I don't avoid death to avoid the penalty, I avoid death because it's the mark of a bad player. For me all I see a death penalty as is a frustratingly stupid time sink.

10. Not going to argue with that one but that's why I'm still playing. There's 18 classes to rank to 50, story missions, class missions, side-quests, marks skills and top-rank gear to name a few. When the actual end-game stuff hits I'll be 50 and ready to go.

11. The wards certainly have more life in them than a menu.
