Dark Knight

Haha seriously though, there could be two possibilities:

1) Samurai being the dps/healer. With the additional healer/dps (chemist/gunner), we'll get the complete holy trinity upon expansion.

2) Samurai being the tank. We'll then end up with 4 tanks, 6 dps, and 2+1 healers. It would then be more likely that we'll get another healer to end up as 4:6:4 to balance things out.

Well said offensive powerhouse was also the evil version of Paladin in all of his appearances. Paladin is a tank. It makes sense that Dark Knight is a tank as well.

Question is: What will happen to the armory sistem now?

I know that seems to be a foreign concept to my melee brethren. =x! But in all seriousness for raid based stuff you usually top everyone off before and after anyway. You'd just have to learn mechanics to be able to push your damage up, just like how scholars have to learn encounters to really push mitigation xD. I do know what you're saying though. I'm just saying from a design standpoint it's very possible to make work. But that's not what we're gonna have lol, I can't wait to see if this helps duty finder times.

Blunt could honestly have a lot of things that fall into it but I was thinking more like... A hammer or mallet, club, but yes a mace could work as well. Something big and brutish

You've got me on piercing. Rapier would seem like it could function as a parry/evasion tank, and such.

I'm definitely open for ideas. I just see lot's of possibility for different team composition and synergy with the way this game works and I would like to see more of those options explored.

Cecil was a tank despite having a sacrifice HP ability.

Dark was tanky in FFT as well, why? Because DRAINS.

OH WAIT- Its FFX-2! Where once again Dark is super tanky!

There are many MMO with drain tanks, Lineage II, WoW etc.

Dark in FF14 will be fine, and there is no reason for it to be dedicated to living on in FFXI Dark's memory. Which was a uniquely glass-cannon embodiment of dark.

So... am i missing something or is this the Dark Knights first appearance in a final fantasy game as a fully fledged tank?

There is the pseudo tank Cecil in IV but he still makes use of the Darkness ability which either deals aoe damage at the cost of HP or augments his physical attacks at the cost of HP (depends on version).

And then there is the Final Fantasy Dimensions version which is still heavily offensive based but has a provoke like ability as well.

Really, im not seeing any others on the wiki page, all other appearances are entirely offensive based.

There was no real tanks in solo FFs. All classes from past solo FFs are subject to change to whatever you could make them. If anything the "tanks" in solo FFs were heavy hitters and would be DPS instead of tank, like Auron and Steiner.

Yes, with amazing HP equal to PLD and MNK and usually having loads of drain attacks, enfeebles, and absolutely stellar defense.

Anyone who has ever tried killing Gafgarion in FFT will never forget Dark as a tank. He was one guy with gear equal/as good as anyone one person your team, but for many players was absolutely nerve wracking to slay.
