A single patch isn't going to redefine a game. Ask this question again once the game hits 2.0.
Hope? Yes.
Think? Nope.
Based on past patches I would have to say no. Nothing close to "Wow, about time!" or even "Not too shabby." has been released in any of the previous patches. I think at this point it is probably in Square's best interest for it to largely fail. They have most likely already chalked up FFXIV as a large monetary loss and put this dev team into place as a fan service (Pure speculation) and are waiting out the last of the diehard players so they can at the very least say they tried their best.
Wishful thinking will still have me checking it out as soon as it's released. After that I will just have to keep checking in every six months to see how it is progressing. I don't believe in this mythical "golden" patch, but if a game ever needed one, it is this game and at this time. This is a one shot deal I think for the rest of the community that has been hanging on. Make or break time I guess for Yoshi. I wish him the best, with players as devoted as FF players are, he's really going to need it.
I don't even care anymore.
Thank you, I agree. Don't get me wrong, I like the passion, but positivity breeds positivity. Granted I was pretty surprised that they released the game as early as they did, but the reason I came back was because of the strides they are taking to make it up to the fanbase (i.e. free gametime). I'm excited about the patch too, but I'm more excited to see where the game is at by the end of September on it's one year anniversary. Hopefully it's in the state it should have launched in and maybe we can see some new content early 2012. I'd be totally happy with that.
When I read this, I was immediately drawn to the movie Shawshank Redemption, you know the scene at the end where Red is finally free from jail. Here is that quote and my answer:
"I find I'm so excited I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel. A free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope."
