I barely know the first thing about SMN, so of course the best place to learn is in Dun Scaith, right?

Well, I landed in a party that had 2 BLMs and 2 other SMNs. The other alliances were also mostly filled with magic DPS, and I think there were only 3 melee DPS in the entire raid, tops.

Immediately I ran facefirst into the single biggest obstacle I faced when trying to DPS as SMN: Target DoT limits. I tried and I tried, but no matter what I did, my DoTs simply would not stick on the bosses. I had all debuffs except for my own turned off, and these bosses were squeaky-clean for me, unless it was at the very start of the fight and I got off a Tri-Disaster.

And the single dumbest part is that I was a horrible DPS, but I never once died during that run.

Lesson learnt: never playing SMN in parties ever again.

True lol, I've actually done this myself once or twice but most of the time I forget it since I am too busy trying to not mess things up.

Met a smn in Wall last night.... that doesn't DeathFlare groups..... he seems to reserve DWT and Deathflare for when there is only 1 target. Have to question my own sanity after that run.

Ran Dun Scaith last week and got into one of the worst groups imaginable. It was so bad we hit the enrage on the first boss and wiped. I didn't even know that was a thing!! Proceed to struggle through everything up to Scathach (<-- spelling?) as slow as can be. First wipe on her someone hits vote abandon and it doesn't go through. Second wipe, vote abandon pops up again and went through immediately. I couldn't do anything but /facepalm...

The problem with debuffs on 24man content is that the target bar has a limit on how many and which debuffs it displays. No matter if you only display your own, if that bar has reached the limit (multiple smns, schs tend to fill it), then you won't see your debuffs. I got used to it to the point that it's sheer timing I work with. Also, normally and unless you are affected by heavy blindness, your smn debuffs should land. The ones that will miss under blindness will be miasma and miasma2 (tends to happen in PotD with the floor "bonus" blindness).

Had a run as tank there, counting about six Hisses and the full floor covered.

Had someone in my leveling roulette (got The Aery) yell at me to use healer LB after everyone was dead (on Nidhogg, of course). We then had to explain to them that healer LB has to be level 3 to raise party members. And even if LB2 did raise someone, I was trapped in the Sable, so couldn't have used it anyways. ._.

I don't know... I've encountered more than one person who seems to think a level 2 healer LB functions the same as a level 3 healer LB. I could understand if they were sprouts, but some of these players weren't sprouts. Idk maybe they just never cared to learn the different levels of LB.

(I do love AST LB3 though. Tied for second fav with DRK. Favorite LB3 is bard. Obviously. :p)

More fun stuff from my alt:

Ran Castrum with a friend to get her alt through it. Got paired with a WHM that used Medica II every five seconds and that's about it. Pre-pull? Medica II. During a pull? Medica II. A boss fight? Medica II! JUST ALL THE TIME MEDICA II! I may have purposely let them die on the second boss and left them dead so I didn't have to hear that awful noise Medica II makes when it goes off.

And the DRK, oh goodness that DRK. Never used Darkside. Not even once by accident. Yet somehow he'd manage to run out of MP on a single target. He'd do some wonky pulls too that me confused and mildly annoyed. Like he'd stop and the dps would start attacking then he'd run off and pull more. He destroyed the canons that are supposed to be used on the adds as well. Had he not the DPS wouldn't have been able to hit the adds anyway because he held them out of range. Oh and you know that group of adds that are just standing there until you turn off the search lights? The one with all the colossi? He decided to aggro them. I didn't heal him at all. I just stood in a corner and waited for him and the WHM to die and the adds to reset so I could leave my corner.

I always thought it was indeed a debuff limit and not merely a display limit. I've been avoiding my DoTs on WHM (well, trying to. Habits are hard to break...) on 24-man raids for that reason.
