Well said little Mao! <3
Depending on the size of one’s friend group, you could all make a plan and move together. I think, even with DC travel, most people want to be on the same home world with their friends and FCs if they have them, so even if they have to or want to go to a different DC to do certain things, when they’re on their home world they don’t feel so isolated. Admittedly the game could do more to alleviate that, with better CWLS and not losing access to things like retainers, etc. when you go off-world. It’s still unappealing for a lot of people to move to what others call a “dead DC” just for a chance to get a house.
I’m wondering if Cosmic Exploration will help a bit… in a recent interview, it was compared to being like Ishgardian Restoration, in that you’ll be working together with others on your world to progress things. That was before DC travel, but it really helped create a sense of community within your world, something that Dynamis could probably use some help with. I guess it depends on how popular the content is, and whether or not it will be crafter/gatherer only like Restoration or any class like Island Sanctuary, but maybe it’ll give players the incentive to stay on their own worlds more… I remember always seeing the Firm Fates in shout chat! At any rate, maybe it’ll give a little push to make the new servers feel more like “home,” and encourage more people to run content on their home servers so as to not miss out on progressing their world for CE.
Even so, if anyone is still on the fence at this point, and is considering moving, I’d do it now before DT, while we’re in a bit of a lull and auto-demo is opening up houses from player inactivity… I’m still firmly in the camp of “make instanced already, this shouldn’t have to be a thing,” but as others have said, this is what we’ve got right now. I have a plot I’m happy with, so I’m content to wait and see what changes we get to housing in the future. But for those that are still looking, this might be the time to make the move, before it’s too late. Xbox players are already here, they weren’t locked into Dynamis, and they’ll be able to get off free trial and enter the housing market in a couple weeks. As I’ve said before, even Dynamis will eventually suffer from the player to plot ratio being way too low… so if transferring was your last resort, this might be the time.
While they could, I would imagine most friends groups already have members with houses they're attached to. There's no guarantee they'd be able to get the location if they transfer.
What's needed is a shift in player thinking about data center travel. It's not the terrible experience that some make it sound.
Would it be right for every player? No, but then those players tend to be the ones that focus most on crafting/gathering/marketboard activities or help to run a venue that requires membership in the FC that owns the house.
Consider the following: when you are playing with your friends group, what do you do during that time period?
Are you in instances, where you're cut off from the rest of the game outside of certain chat channels?
Are you talking to your FC, or are you talking to your friends?
Do you frequently stop what you're doing to go check your retainers?
Do you really need to be on your home world to do the things you do with your friends?
For those with no interest in leaving their home worlds, I completely understand. It was something I brought up as a potential issue when data center travel was announced and players started seeing it as a solution for housing. Data center travel has turned out better than I had expected and I use it a lot. I still understand why others don't.
But it is also a choice to prioritize staying on the same world with your friends over getting a house instead of moving to a different world to get a house then using data center travel to play with friends. Instead of complaining about not being able to get a house, focus on the fun you're having with your friends. You still have the ability to get an apartment (assuming you're not on Balmung and Balmung has sold out again) which offers most of the same features as a house.
RE: Cosmic Exploration - that's not going to help the housing issue. If it like Ishgardian Restoration then it will create a problem with the area being limited to home world only unless SE puts a cap on daily rewards that can be earned from progress events.
If your friendships only exist if you live on the same server as them...hate to break it to you but they're not your friends. Actual friendships exist regardless of where you are or what you're playing lol.
Kind of concerned now that a lot of people on 14 are shallow if multiple people are paranoid to leave because of friendship related reasons.

Side note: I got my house but after moving to a less populated server on Crystal a few months ago. Took one try on a 50/50 chance with a small and I got it my first week there, also scored a medium FC that happened to have low bids at the time more recently. My friends don't care and come visit me regardless and vise versa.
You don't even need Dynamis to get a house tbh, you just need to sacrifice your high standards for something that is more attainable. Now I can just freely bid on mansions until I get one now and there's no stress if I lose...I got my houses at the end of the day. *shrug*
If someone cries shortage because they've spent the last year or two bidding on nothing but mansions and losing (while other houses are still chillin there waiting for bids)...it's not a shortage at that point.
Something I've also tried telling others many times. Social media seems to have distorted what a "friend" is over the years.
There is still a shortage but it is not a housing shortage. It is a medium and large shortage.
Again, blame social media. It's taught people to exaggerate and sensationalize situations to get attention from their peer group acquaintances. Unfortunately for them, those with the ability to create change aren't in their peer groups and ignore what they have to say when all they do is exaggerate for effect.
I do agree that social media have absolutely indeed distorted the truth of what a ''REAL FRIEND or FRIENDS'' Is, cause whilest i do have real friends and i know they won't mind me moving, it's more i enjoy being on Mateus.
But it's pretty sad, how the peer preasure of ''Group friends'' Is the new norm. But then also, you have people who have loneliness and depression and being alone, sadly does wreck a lot of things.
*hugs everyone* Don't give up, hope is always there for everyone! <3
To be fair, peer pressure has always existed. It's not a new norm.
What's changed is the size of the peer groups now that social media exists. Where peer groups used to be a couple of hundred people within a local community, they can now include thousands or even millions from around the world. It becomes a lot harder to know what to believe.
Hugs back to you. As you say there is always hope that things will change for the better.
I can't wait for Tuesday! gonna purchase the new Paper mario on Switch!
