What's the point of looking good if nobody can see you? There is none. I don't see any reason to bother with the extra side things like that unless your current outfit is actively ugly, which is like only an issue within first 40 levels of ARR. The only reason to look good is to know others think you look good, far as I see. Or you look funny. Or whatever like that. But yes, I genuinely see glamour system as a whole as pointless and worthless to engage with if others can't see it. And I am far from only one, and I am certain that mogstation sales of outfits will very much reflect that as well.

What you may consider "looking good" others may consider tacky or gaudy. Fashion is a case by case situation. Some may like what you wear while others won't

See this is what I do not get, as per my example from before about the person that asked me to remove my frog helmet from the MSQ. I did not, but understand why they may want to remove it and this was before duty support and stuff. So you are saying that our desire to dress a certain way should trump the experience just because? Communities many function around compromise not unwavering obedience. While, I agree I had no obligation to remove my helmet, that does not mean players that do not want to see such things should either be forced to deal with it, or simply leave the game. I do not wish for my fun to impact the fun of others. I can respect and understand the fact that some people may not share the same tastes as I do and not find what I find funny or enjoyable.

Are you really saying that said players that do not wish to see certain things should just stop playing the game if they cannot deal? I do not get it a community should be understanding and willing to compromise or find some middle ground even if it gives up some freedoms or things you may enjoy. More people enjoying the game the better.

Though here is the funny thing, you still have not really answered how would you know someone is using the option? If you do not know why would you choose to let it impact you. Like honestly the two of you remind me of that coworker that always assumes someone is talking about them or looking at them. Sure maybe people are, maybe they are not. When you have the choice of the narrative why choose the one that clearly adds some level of destress or takes away from your enjoy. Just go on with your day thinking no one is using it.

I guess it boils down to GM, I was reported for talking about mod usage in NN, someone reported me GM spoke with me and just asked, do you mod? I said nope. He went on his merry way. Maybe if someone had the discord pictures and stuff I would have gotten in trouble, but yeah. Guess it varies.

Considering how many "trousers" I already had to glamour with actual trousers because these trousers turned to tangas on women: Adjust all you like, if you like having mismatched gear, that's on you, but if you are hoping to see less skimpy clothing in the game with this, I have bad news for you.
(I literally had a glamour plate with only an "all classes" black pants on it for this reason for a long time, until I needed the plate.)

Tbf what people are asking for is more along the lines of a character model swap into a model that has a standardize attire like a robe or something. Not like a mass glamour dispel

I'm certain that the number of people who play for their own enjoyment, massively outweigh the number of people who's fragile ego cannot handle not being noticed by the people around them. I glamour the way I do, because I care about the character I play. I don't glamour for other people in the hopes to catch someone's gaze or to be "cool" in their book.

I find this whole "please notice me" counter argument just mind boggingly silly.

The POINT of glamour is to change the look of gear for your character to something YOU prefer so as not restrict your look to what's "good" gear.

It being for you, or the benefit of those around you is purely subjective. However if your motivation is that someone who DISLIKES what you chose HAS to see it.. I'm going to say that's probably not what was intended.

Many games sell cosmetics that other players never see or can choose not to see, but always the commonality is that the player can see what they've bought. It's for the players benefit, not a guarantee that everyone has to look at it.

Please don't take this the wrong way, as I am not trying to be rude, though I understand it's an iffy topic.

What, if any, do you think causes you to need to feel seen? Why do you get anxious or upset that some faceless nobody who doesn't know who you are will continue not knowing who you are? The people who you are targetting; friends, fellow fashion enthusiasts, people within your social bubble, will all still interact with you the same as before.

Again, I'm not trying to undermine or minimize your feelings, but what is it about not being able to change what you cannot control that bothers you? Because at the end of the day, the people who do use a feature like this, to enhance their own gameplay and personal experience, already do not hold the same values as you. They already don't care and will not give you the validiation you are looking for, so what difference does it make.

I am ernestly asking, I'm not trying to attack. I would like to better understand what causes the distain for something like this.

The people who would have the feature on are people that didn't want to see your creativity in the first place. Is it really so important for you that every single person be able to see your new outfit, regardless of whether they wanted to or not? The people who share your views on glamour will still give you compliments if the outfit is good. The people who would be using the feature are the people who would have never given you any validation or comments on your glamour to begin with. What are you losing? Absolutely nothing. Your experience does not change one single iota.

Meanwhile, our experience changes greatly in that we can enable the feature if we so choose and don't need to have things forced upon us. I seriously don't understand the people arguing against this at all.

I love seeing players with terrible mixed glamour sets, with chaotic color choice.. it makes me laugh and smile..:)

What next? People gonna ask an ability to hide other players? I prefer myself, that people are not going to see me at all, than see me in ugly default dungeon/raid/trials gear.

Indeed. At the very least a limitation of characters displayed to party members, friendlisted characters, or FC mates would be awesome for performance and gameplay ease of use. No more disappearing MOBs just because it's a big hunt.

I've seen enough skimpy mogs to last me 10 lifetimes, but to hide them is a little too much even for my taste. I just raise my eyebrows and say to myself "seriously?" and move on. It's actually funny to see a tank in a tiny bikini handling trash mobs. If this is what people like to erm...wear...for lack of a better word, just let them. I'd expect it to be an all-or-nothing button. Kill glamour totally for everyone including the person who presses the button. Disable the glamour chest if the button is pressed. Disable dyes as well -- one can get some serioius "clown suit" vibes from mismatched dye jobs. Instant immersion breaker, right?

I have such fond memories for the clown suits of mismatched armor in Burning Crusade (the first WoW expansion).

I believe so yes. It’s been shown in this thread to of been done in another game. Just not sure if it would be better / easier to just dispel glamours client side, showing what the person has equipped, or have a default sorta place holder look per role. ie; either all tanks in basic plate armour, or the lvl 45 => 50 relic armour

I can only assume the people opposing the idea stop random strangers they run into in public places to ask what they think of their fashion sense, wear chicken costumes casually or go everywhere in spotted speedoes.

It's kind of funny how this isn't an option but with the power of illegal third party tools you can easily completely override everyone's glam.

I'm not really anti-3pp or anything, but it's been almost depressing lately when it comes to actual in-game glams. I can't be the only one asking themselves why they bother making glams when literally everyone out there seems to be using mare. So yeah, you might as well just let people be able to hide all glams through an in-game toggle at this point.

The second one of those illegal third party tools can easily override everyone's glam on the PS4 without breaking both Sony's and Square Enix's Terms of Service, I'll believe you.

As it is, packet sniffing can do so many obviously marvelous illegal things.

It is possible, easiest way and I use that lightly is a model swap toggle. Replace every with a generic NPC with a set attire. That is the way I "would" do it.

Thankfully I play on PC so not like I need SE's approval. PC gaming is all about enhancing the play experience on a personal level. The option exists, it can get buggy, but it is passable. In the end not sure what is wrong with client side altercations, say if someone wants to see people in clown outfits why not let them have that choice.

Indeed, it is like many different people have differing ideas and views play this game, yet for some reason when that idea conflicts with another it is no longer okay to have differing views and the only two acceptable options are to not like or don’t play. It is weird how for some reason players of an MMO rather have people either conform or leave. They should not have opinions that go against the norm because people MUST BE SEEN! Don’t like what I am wearing too bad, cause the mere possibility of people not seeing them is enough to cause anxiety. Which I get, I do have friends that feel this way, they spend hours sometimes weeks setting up a glamour even had one go to great lengths to have us help them clear ultimate, When they found out about my mod usage they legit did not log in for three weeks cause the idea of others not seeing their character legit caused them to have a panic attack. I understand this stuff is real, but at the same time communities are about compromise and sometimes that means having to give up certain freedoms. We should promote compromise instead of rage. Though I as I said many times I do understand attire and expression go hand in hand for many with acceptance, and this at the core is what makes things hard topic to approach.

That said I really do wish SE would just be more open about mods, they are not all evil. Currently working on an animation change for a friend that was a flashy version of MNK. God it is a lot harder than I thought, but I am also a newb at this. Seen some examples and the stuff people have done is nutty. Someone made a necromancer with smn as the base. Personally if people embraced mods I do think overall it would be a net positive for the community. Sure some bad apples exist but not everyone is evil.

Show me a screenshot of my character in any job without a bikini and I'll be able to report you 🙂.
It's a shame I cannot go around completely naked tanking and need to use a bikini... Oh well 🤣
