VIERA AND HROTHGAR COMPLAINT MEGATHREAD

You're drawing a grim future, sheeesh! The hair styles are matching them, but not Hroth. Not even close after a quick overview with char creation I just had.
So it just feels more like being Frankenstein's monster, getting stuck together from other races leftovers. And never getting something unique and full matching anymore.

It's as someone said on another thread, we're becoming a parody of the Ronso. As much as Square made us look serious and cool at the start, it feels we're just being relegated to meme race by design.

But I'm just hoping that Yoshida will address it altogether and that, when he does, he has something to say about hairstyles fitting our race. Not the model. The race. Just so we have some justification for any of this, as well as some understanding of what to expect in the future. Because right now I'm just expecting stuff like "zilch for effort" or "we heard you, we just won't do it because of some bull modders can discredit".

I'm wondering if there was a reason why those hairstyles were chosen. Were they just "the players might like this," or a case of "these are going to be the hardest hairstyles to get to work, so we better do these first"?

They're largely the same hairstyles that were given to Female Viera at 6.0 launch as Akimori mentioned. So I feel pretty confident that they didn't take whether or not they would actually look good on Hrothgars into consideration. Most likely, these hairstyles were already on the workshop floor after the Viera ports so they just slapped them on Hrothgars and called it a day. As we saw in the most recent patch notes, Viera are getting hairstyles that specifically look good with their models.

Whether they look good or not is not really up to debate since it's subjective at best... but I also can't think about that criteira either.

Would be safer to just go for the most used ones from the aesthetician. But I wonder if they even have that statistic at hand. If we'd go for popularity, the "male miqo'te 101" hair (the PVP one with small beads on the side) would certainly be on top of the list.

People say they're virtually the same hairstyles Viera had.

I doubt that they did have any quality assurance past that. They just plopped it on, printed a render so bad not even Dentists could make, and called it for the day. We've already had a thread before (now buried) so Hrothgar players could relay what they actually want. And we also have had several images going around of modded models that show hairstyles that already exist in the game and would fit a leonine race much better. Whether that will impact anything remains to be seen.

So far we've had bugger all for an answer, and people are expecting some form of answer tomorrow. Whatever it is, brace yourselves. Because if they just shoved these models as-is, they likely won't give a satisfying answer.

Now that's a skewed criteria if I've ever seen one... What if the majority of the active playerbase plays a female character? What if the selected hairstyles don't even fit the race to begin with (as is the case)?

It seems so low-effort and awkward that I wouldn't even surprised if that's what they did.

That's not skewed, you just parse the data and distribute evenly. Let's say they have resources to implement 4 styles. They pick the most popular ones from males and females and bring 2 from one and 2 from another.

"What if they don't fit the race" - That's sort of subjective as well, which is a bad parameter to bring on what should or should not be deserving. Same thing as people hating the casual glams because it "doesn't fit FF".

Choosing at random, now that is objectively worse.

Barring a few exceptions most of them look pretty decent on Viera, but aside from them saying 2B and 9S were highly requested the first batch was definitely not super well-received then either, from what I saw at least. When they first showed them the reaction was overwhelmingly "Oh, finally! But why these? I hope there's more they didn't show and it's not just these 6.".

They definitely suit Viera better than they do Hrothgar because of the human head but they don't feel particularly hand-picked for what's the most popular or what looks best on Viera either, but that's subjective.

We don't know yet how many there are in 6.1 total, but going off the ones we've seen the best guess right now is they're pulling from the earliest unlocks to the newest in different "categories" (default unlocks, in-game unlocks, cash shop) and working their way towards the middle from both ends.

But that's just guessing, we'll have to see if Hrothgar keep following with the same ones.

Both Ways was the last one in Shadowbringers and we're getting that in 6.1 along with either 1 or 2 default unlocks, so depending on the others (assuming there are others) it might give a better idea of which ones they're choosing.
