This still doesn't change the fact that you can't become good at a class if you don't play it or only stick to the content you find easy.

You're missing one piece of the puzzle.
For stuff like Rabanastre greed only would hurt players that are just returning that need some gear or even newer players to get into new content if their ilvl is too low after just hitting 70.
Rido min Ilvl is 335, Sigma is 325, Swallow's Compass is 330. New normal trial is 335.
Rab gear is a good stepping stone as it is 330. So these newer players might be able to grab some stuff to meet the ilvl req for the above while getting coins without people smashing greed on everything. I mean it even helps people who are on alt jobs to get gear quicker if they play them in something like Rab so they get access to all the other stuff on that job and then they can go from there.
The system only works for a brief period of time before it falls apart.
What I mean is the system works on a bit of assumptions.
When a new raid comes out, people will be limited to one item per week. This means that while anyone can greed something, the likely hood of you greed rolling on an item that isnt your main is a lot lower. If youre running monk, chances are you queued as monk, and will bypass Tank/Healer/etc gear in favor of monk gear you need. The system balances itself out internally without the need option simply because people wont roll on something they dont need if its a one per week lockout.
The problem then comes down the road. The longer the raid is out, the less likely youll need things for your primary class, so you will start rolling against other classes for their gear. If youve been active in the raid tier, this wont affect you much, but if you are behind or just been away, youll be at a disadvantage, as people will be rolling against you on things you need, but they are getting for an off class. This is where it falls apart pretty much. The older a raid gets, the harder it will be to get gear you specifically want for your main as competition goes up, not down.
On paper, this change makes sense, just long term it falls apart. The need option should instead become available the longer the raid becomes open (lets say after 6 weeks), so that people who need specific gear can get it, and if you want to gear an off class, youre going to have to play that class. That or once the raid becomes unlocked loot wise, you can roll Need once per week.
Come on your main and Greed. Since the healers will be able to Need, they will get their gear quickly and get to a point where they won't want the item and will use their weekly drop for something else. Or they already have something better. Nothing is forcing you to come on that class.
For what content, exactly? For dailies and the likes you're more than ok with white vendor gear ilvls upon ilvls back. You don't need BiS for dailies and FATEs. And this is still an MMORPG. It makes all the sense in the world for people who actually partake in group content to get priority for this sort of thing.
Is it time to admit Alliance Raid loot system just straight doesn't work and remake it? Yes? Please?
It's been said and I'll say it again - if you are so bad at healing you can barely heal 24-mans, why do you need gear for it? Moreover, why do you not take it as a challenge to improve?
I was terrible at healing when I started healing 24-mans and I got a lot better. I'll heal anything outside of very current EX primals and savage which is a vast improvement to how I was before.
If you cannot even be bothered to improve, leave the gear/glamour to people who actually try.
- If you're afraid of killing people but want decent gear buy the i350 crafted set. Next patch will likely have a new crafting set if you want an even higher ilv.
- If you aren't gearing other classes, buy the i360 tome gear (same ilv as the 24 man). If you want i370 gear, run the raid as whatever class your heart desires and spend the coins on the upgrade.
- If you want to heal but don't want to do 24 mans, hunt and use your seals to buy the i370 upgrades
I don't understand why you feel the need to obtain high ilv gear for your healer if you're so awful at it, but you have options here.
Thank you, Yoshida! ;w;
