cutter's cry, was fill with my cries, is hard by default for low levels, especially when you by mistake drag out your flash icon from your bar when is unlocked and your whole party believes in the first boss everything must be keep on aggro by the tank, such a sad run I took so much from the others I don't really blame then, it was my worst tanking job ever.
uh no, you can very easily grab and hold all of the adds, without cooldowns and undergeared
because that's how I did it when I first unlocked cutters
my item level was I think like 33
held them all, never even came remotely close to dying
the kite method is only considered "better" because a lot of tanks can't hold hate for shit
in cutters, that's really only understandable if they're a pld without shield oath, and with dumb dps peeling things off
HUH, we're talking about the Ant Queen right? If so why would you put the mob that buffs her next to her? Heals kite all mobs around the arena and you just burn her down. Heals tosses one out here and there to you coz she hits for nothing. It's not because tanks can't hold the threat, it's just more efficient.
To each their own then...
Like everything else in this game, it depends on your party. If your healer is comfortable kiting all the adds around, go ahead and let them. If they run up to you (like a smart person who takes aggro when they want you to get it back) with all the adds running behind them, use flash like what, once? Twice? Boom.
I was playing with a fail tank who pulled the final boss of a dungeon without our healer, then votes to kick me after I point out you don't start without everyone even if they are in a cut scene. (He blamed them them for watching the cut scene) Kitru Kitera was his name, hope I don't end up in a party with him again. Acted noob, but thought he was pro and telling people what to do.
Forgot to turn on shield oath or sword oath the entire run in Stone Vigil. Idk how we beat it semi-smoothly
The times during tank swaps (Ultima HM, Ramuh EX, mainly) where I don't notice that I've hit tab target to the wrong mob and managed to Provoke an add instead >.< Sometimes it's salvagable, like in Ramuh, if I can voicechat with the other tank and tell them to overcharge to stay alive, but other times... Most likely a wipe.
(Sure, I have a quickbutton on my mouse for switching to focustarget, but I keep that focus on the other tank so I won't miss when I'm up ^^; )
I was running Haukke Manor with two of my friends in teamspeak. The healer was from DF. We were in the room where you go down to the basement fighting on the steps when I fell off the steps to the bottom of the room. I ran back up training all the mobs behind me and all the mobs that followed me. My friends and I all thought it was hilarious... the healer didn't
That feel when you Provoke a bulb..
just the other day ran st without shield oath the entire time. mt the whole way.
god knows how I didnt lose hate at some point since I was only using the curtana novus and surely some dps were using nexus or better.
2 days later upgraded to my Excalibur, didn't even get to keep my nexus for 5mins after all that tanking work for the light too...
adding a bonus one from today now that I remember it, not that I can really forget.
levi ex pony farm, was tidying up a little waiting on group to form, after a few mins que pops so I auto click accept, all dressed to impress as pld,, then as pointed out to me I was actually suppose to be blm cus we already had two tanks and I pony farm as blm, so off we went to kill levi ex with 3 tanks me in sword oath the whole time.
tanked AV doing a non sac pull for the first time in like a year... lets just say some mistakes were made...
So, new to MMO's and picked a Tank class. Steep learning curve, reading guides, watching utube prior to runs etc... Just did Praetorium for the first time. I still don't know what happened. The group was awesome, just drilled it, no wipes. Buuuut....got lost at one stage, eventually found the magitech, was getting attacked by a lone MOB, got rid of him and met up with the main group about a 5min delay....<I'm sorry>, then managed to lock out half the group on a boss fight. Playing on Tonberry, there was quite a few Japanese symbols flashing up at quite a pace! <I'm sorry> <Im sorry> <bow>. Not sure what they said, but in my defence I did flash up <My first time here> at the start of the run!
Also, not knowing what the bard skills were and constantly running out of their circles :-) I still am not sure on them if anyone can explain!
Also, playing hero DPS-tank and going for the nail on Ifrit....Wipe.
Today, I did T10 as a PLD for the first time on our static's first raid day. My derps:
- Messed up cooldown timings for Critical Rip.
- Messed up snap aggro on a LB2 pull.
- Ate a couple of Electric Bursts.
- Oh, and messed up a tank swap.
I got better after 4-5 wipes until we got our clear: got aggro on the adds easily, swapped to Sword Oath when it was safe to do so, got better at mitigating Critical Rips (which our WHM was Stoneskinn with Flatten-tier precision), and held aggro against players with iLv. 115 and 135 weapons.
Tomorrow, we'll be going into T11! I hope I don't mess up too hard!
cleared ramuh ex for first time today, we had 3(?) wipes first though (just went in df with just my statics other war)
one of those was me not getting enough orbs in time for tank swap
Was doing Haukke Manor with randoms for my roulette and after clearing the first boss I got a little overzealous and pulled every enemy along the stairs...when we only had two MNKs for DPS. We made it through...but they were not amused.
A few weeks back I did a lldr and landed in Brayflox. It had been a long time since I had last did it. Get through pretty well until the final boss. Our 1st go at him I found out too late that I wasn't moving him far enough to get him out of the goop. 2nd time we smashed it.
In a drunken stupor my comrades and I decided to run Ultima Weapon with no prior research. Keep in mind at this point I was foreign to the idea of tank swapping, and my buddy was also the 2nd tank. I told the guys "I got this, I'll be the mt!". I was dumbfounded when I wiped with full health after one hit, then the other tank died in a similar fashion and the party wiped. We wiped again cause I was dead from probably having a stack of 7 or 9 and we couldn't prevent the balls from touching. Luckily the third attempt I realized I was obtaining stacks and told my friend to steal hate once I got to three stacks (sounded like a good limit, similar to Aurum Vale lol). Then, believe it or not, we were successful once we realized we had to switch out! Funny thing is the healers were deciding before the start of the fight who's gonna revive who when they died after the first wipe lol
Today, I made two mistakes:
1) I forgot to mitigate my very first Revelation.
2) Failed getting snap aggro on a Bennu in Sword Oath, when I should've done one combo and put up Fracture on Phoenix before going back to Shield Oath, building up my combo and pick up the Bennu.
On the bright side, I am very thankful for my healers and the progress we've been making in FCoB is going well. It's sweet!
So I went with a friend who was looking for her AV and then DD relic drops... (And she was really lucky and got both of them the first time I came with her to those places o.o Maybe I'm a lucky charm?)
Forgot I got level synched and lost Defiance. Both times. In AV I realized it during the first boss when I was commenting over teamspeak to another friend that I kept verging on losing aggro to one of the dps. Then went 'oh. ehrm. I totally did not forget Defiance there...'
In DD... We came halfway to the second boss before I noticed my Defiance icon wasn't there ._. Total lack of awareness D:
And none of the others even called me out on it. Though I did apologize for my derp and proceeded to keep aggro a lot better.
(In my defense, I slept maybe three or four hours last night, and had been up for almost twelve hours since then. But still... So embarrassing D: )
This isn't mine specifically, I main WHM and whenever I attempt to PLD it's pretty disastrous. But my boyfriend mains PLD and his derps are by far my favorite.
1) We were in t12 and we had LB2, so he starts yelling at our static NIN to LB. But before he can, a tank LB goes out. Our monk started going absolutely mental on our WAR. After a moment of silence, my boyfriend says sheepishly, "That was me, guys... my bad."
2) My boyfriend really likes to stance dance in t13 . He often goes Sword Oath when he has Hallowed up or while Earthshakers are going off. One time we wiped in the middle of Earthshakers and he pulled, with Sword Oath, and nearly died to the first Flatten... every single hit. As his WHM and girlfriend, I did the logical thing and screamed at him to turn Shield Oath on, only to see the damn dragon come at me and sit on my little WHM face.
Switched from healing to tanking for zodiac runs, despite not having much experience. Took about 20 tam taras and snowcloaks, so I was getting a bit more comfortable with tanking/large pulls. I decided to make a hallowed ground macro, then made on for raise/res as well while my friend was away. He got back, we queued up, got hullbreaker, which I hadn't tanked before.
I warned the party I was new and was only planning on doing one group at a time. The scholar and summoner seemed a bit impatient, and I did dumb things like ran into a trap. I had a hard time holding aggro, so when we got to the second boss, the summoner left without a word. That's when I noticed it.. I forgot to put shield oath on after doing macros and no one said anything. :(
My previous static/FC when I still was in Hyperion, usually used the phrase "Pulled a Lucille". Why? Well, it was Titan ex back in the day. I was pretty confident about it. However, because mistakes happen, our OT flied away with a landslide. The add, which was still alive, decided to attack the healer. I move forward, I shield lob it, Titan turns back and uses mountain buster, wiping most of my group. That happened like 3 times in Titan ex but under different circunstances. One of these times was when I tried to adjust its position. It happened a lot of times with Nael back in the day. Megaflare happens, I space out, Nael lands right in the middle of the group while I have all my group yelling at me saying things about how they met my mother. Eventually I stopped doing it, with more discipline and stuff, but it was hilarious and I kinda enjoyed it.
Wow. Just had a CRACKER! Bit tired....that's my excuse. Doing Cutters Cry for books. Run went smooth, all good till last boss (chimera). I had watched a video to prepare, it said blue eyes range attack and purple eyes gather on boss. I muffed it completely as in the fight it says violet, not purple....died twice and was raised, died again....wipe. But that's not the best bit. So I run back, get to the boss again, charge him and tomahawk and start fight. No party. I can see them all on the ledge, but no one in the pit with me. I assume they are all mad with me and are not going to help. Fine, I think, I will try and bloody solo him! Gave it a fair crack too, surprised myself. Lasted about 5 minutes, party still on the ledge watching. As I died again, I realised I had locked them out...I offered profuse profuse apologies, we hit the boss again and I realised purple=violet, the mensa member I am. We knocked him over simple then..But was a quality derpy herp!
lol In Wanderers palace (hard) I pulled three mobs and managed to keep hate for a couple of secs before i realized that i didnt have shield oath on. Needless to say the dps died lol. But i was quick to recover so the only people that matter in the party survived i.e tank/healer ahahaha
Normally in keeper of the lake for the first dragon I'll grab the add and tank it 90 degrees the yellow dragon that way it's positioned in such a way that I no one has to move at all or worry about getting cleaved, and just let dps have the add when the blue dragon is up. After not running dungeons for a weeks I thought I do an exp roulette late one night get to the final boss, kill the first dragon and then while killing the second the add spawns and then try to handle it like the first. Dragon Rime Wreathes everyone away from the shield generator just as it's about to be activated after realizing what I've done the aoe goes off killing everyone before I could get the dragon away.
Was Off tanking t10 as paladin.Went to soak wild charge. Forgot to get back in shield oath. Got wrecked hard.
I reached level 44 back then, queueing for Darkhold while looking at a guide for it because I heard it's the 1st dungeon in the game that has many mechanics which tank should know before hand to lead the team...and the pt log popped right before i can read the guide up to the 1st boss.
I went it, and I derped so hard without knowing everything, wiping for 45min - 1 hour
Next is Garuda story mode, dun even know how to dodge AoE skill that dun have an indicator from boss, wipe for another 30-45 minutes.
