What is that, 2 disconnections since 2 am when savage went live? So 2 in 30 minutes? Very nice. NA is cooked. You're better off watching EU players livestream it, because no way in hell are you making meaningful progress on NA rn.
3 disconnections in last 2 hours for me. Edit: Now 5! Getting closer and closer together, as well, game is unplayable... feel sorry for people trying Savage
3 or 4 times alone in the savage pulls so far. And there was one before I entered.
Edit: in total probably had around 20-30 instances of people disconnecting during today's prog, in a 4 hour period. Some more than others (who weren't using a VPN or didn't get the right one). Fortunately, most of the time there weren't that long queues due to it being early hours.
I can't even finish M1 normal tonight because the DDOS keeps ruining it around 20%... at least 4 times now
What we know for sure now is this is a very targeted attack because it was timed specifically for Savage release.
These DDoS also affects people who are not necessarily kicked out from the game (like me); I don't want to do anything that involves getting into contents together with other players because I may be at risk coming across 1-7 other players disconnecting, then having to WAIT for them to log back in or find replacement(s), if there's any that is.
Pathetic.

Gonna just leave this here..
Apparently, they stopped attacking NA and started attacking OCE for the first time ever, exactly when a savage prog group went to Materia to try and evade the attacks. It's so painfully obvious how targeted this is now.
I woke up at 5:30am and put on a WFR stream before getting ready for work, and in about 20 minutes I watched that group DC 4 or 5 times.
I don't know what else to say at this point. This is beyond embarrassing.
This theory never makes sense to me, tbh. The serious RMT bot admins make a living off this game, they wouldn't want it to die. Much more sensible for them to just create more bots and go until they get banned again.
I hope today basically finally puts it to bed -- someone is trying to kill FFXIV.
I don't care if they're targeting the upward Internet or whether they are going after the SE servers.
Someone -- who damn well knows what they are doing -- is trying to end the game.
And the only way I think someone could get that serious (because I certainly have had my anger with Square-Enix' MMO division for years (the character name is not just a nom de plume)) is that it's a former RMT outfit that SE was able to penetrate, but not finish off.
That's if Square-Enix didn't make it impossible for that particular outfit to continue.
My theory, if it is correct, is that Square-Enix got a group finally, but didn't finish it off. But they crippled it enough that your postulate was no longer possible. However, at that point, they did make a living off the game and it was taken from them, so they're going to try to take everyone's ball and go home.
NA specific, OCE when people leave NA.
This has all the earmarks of a vendetta against specific player communities, not even the game of itself.
I'm actually again wondering if my theory that it's bigots going after any bastions of inclusion on the net that they can is spot on. Especially when American players are being selectively targeted as well ...
Lessee.
WoW (which has inclusive GUILDS, but isn't especially known for the greatest community)? It gets OCCASIONAL attacks, but not often. Moreover quite a few people left the game during the big Blizzard scandal but I don't recall there being any DDOS ...
BDO, which is well known for being a bigoted hive of scum and villainy? Basically never gets attacked at all.
What else does get noticeably targeted? Minecraft, for one. To the point that a company that provided DDOS protection services for Minecraft servers recently got kicked offline by their ISP because it was causing an entire node to crumple under the weight of attacks.
And I know Minecraft tends to be particularly attractive among the sort of player types I fear they are targeting with the attacks on FFXIV ...
What's sad to me is both an RMT team or a group of no-life bigots going at FFXIV both make perfect sense as theories as to a malicious actor behind this.
The fact that the attacks got WORSE on savage release and even chased a team to OCE doesn't surprise me at all, but I was partly expecting them to keep as usual for the savage rekease just to make it seem like SE or NTT was the reason and not a malicious actor.
This is wild and really bad.
I'm sorry but I heavily disagree with this insinuation. All the most racist and transphobe people I've met are the least computer literate, and even if they were, they tend to avoid contact with such people, not stalk them in their little video game.
If anything it's more likely players who have grown to hate the game because of its slow content cadence, neutering of jobs and toxic experiences in a raid setting that have triggered a deep resentment with SE for the way they ruined "their" game. The game they're obsessed with and has become their one source of identity. That I can believe much more easily than a bunch of nerdy, technologically expert bigots....
The RMT theory above is also more believable imo.
Given the reported attacks on WoW as well it does seem like maybe they don't like MMOs generally.
I believe there's too much of that within the FFXIV playerbase to be specifically that. I do believe firmly that much of the Dawntrail MSQ criticism never happens if the main voice actress wasn't transgender.
I do understand the thought process, but you would think, after a certain period of time, that if it was specifically this, there would be a limit as to that they only would be attacked, not the game at large. And, at some point, I would have to think a "ransom note" would be processed.
I get the concept of what you are stating, but why would this not have started the day it became known that the main DT character's VA was transgender?
"Bad" is not the way to put it. This is an existential attack on the future of the game.
You might get called dramatic for that but you're entirely right. Even if it's not a direct attack and FFXIV is just getting caught in the crossfire as others have speculated, this is really harmful for the game's future no matter how you look at it. I don't think a lot of the people defending SE are really processing how horrifying it is that they still don't have it under control.
On top of that, if the RMT people wanted to make an impact on SE they would hit the JP servers more and just not just NA.
I still don't believe this is a DDoS but a networking hardware problem. It's as if someone unplugs a network cable then plugs it back in. This is a sign that some switch or router could be going bad and flipping the routing to another route. This can cause disconnects.
There are some VPN providers that route your game traffic though other nodes which aren't impacted at all. If it was a DDoS then all routes would be impacted AND it would last for a while. We wouldn't be able to instantly log back into the game.
Race to world first is gonna have a huge fucking asterisk because of all this.
sooo again.... to many today DDOS.... and no world 1st for us... All peoples go to fan fest in April... need to ask them why and solution do change it...
Yup my expectation was that the ddos attacks would magically stop until, at the very least, the WF race was finished, as they did for the previous two tiers and FRU. That it's happening this time around takes the issue to a whole new level, because the WF race is much more front and center than the regular day to day gameplay, and JP players participate as well. Given how seriously WF racers take the prestige surrounding it, I can't imagine the JP WFers would be too thrilled to have the prestige of their participation dimimished due to these attacks giving them an unfair advantage. At the very least this should warrant an actual serious response from Yoshi P over the usual copypasta news post.
again.... welcome do doom of lag/disconnected...
Even if they can't do anything to prevent it, at minimum we should at least get some sort of game time compensation. It's truly the least they can do.
As a console player, I'm not even getting frequently DC'd, but I still have to spent 10-15 minutes every instance waiting for the rest of my party to come back. It's a waste of everyone's time that is being paid for.
Ive heard some theory that the DDOS is coming from japan to block US raiders from world first :\
Honeslty i don't do savages until a week or 2 later so i have more tiem to get better gear, and learn the fight from videos. But if imma be at risk of being ddos during the fight or even at last 5% causing an enrage. That is very annoying
I was going to say, it could be ANYONE mad at Square-Enix for any number of reasons of which... um, it's kinda strange to admit they do have their enemies out there, and not even ones specifically tied to FF14.
Some hate the genre, or the entire franchise, or the whole company, or just Japanese people in general.
+++
One may recall it wasn't that long ago that the stalker mod was running wild, or how some people thought they let Mare live "for too long". And then there was their "rapid response" to issues with Cosmic Exploration and Forked Tower at launch.
Square-Enix is definitely not great in a crisis, and we all know how timely they can be when it comes to fixing their own screw-ups (seven years for Viera and Hrothgar hats, SEVEN YEARS). I think what we're seeing here is someone exploiting their greatest weakness; Their reaction time.
Which is morbidly hilarious that the game that expects us all to know when the floor is going to kill us is themselves playing Savage mode death DDR in real life.
Yeah, I'm done with this. Not renewing my sub when it comes due next. I've had enough.
Square needs to communicate, and more importantly, fix it.
I don't really care about the who or why, nor is it our job. There's really no excuse.
It's time to send a message using our wallets.
Just got DCed with M9S at 3%...
DDoS'd during an Iron Noose fishing window. Nice.
I was reading this thread on the side while waiting for a queue, and then it crashes on me. We're back in the building again...
They'd better be giving some free game time and figuring out who to replace this joke of an ISP with.
This is pathetic.
