anecdotally it does seem in decline at the moment

"MMO gross sales decreased by ¥2.9 billion yen (-23%) and operational profits are down ¥3 billion (-45%)"
This is not good. But it is deserved, IMHO.
Cheers

By the way... August was also the most disastrous month on record since Dec 2020.
Wrrrrrrrrong, not everything is posted on this page, sometimes they release it in exclusive interviews or live letters. So I would not take that page as gospel.
Key Details
Confirmation: Director Naoki Yoshida confirmed that a second Ultimate is planned for the Dawntrail 7.x patch series.
Expected Timing: The release is tentatively scheduled for Patch 7.5, which is in the first half of 2026, though this is subject to the usual patch release cadence.
Current Status: The Dawntrail Ultimate was not in Patch 7.3, but development is actively ongoing for the next one.
Historical Context: Final Fantasy XIV expansions typically feature two Ultimate raids, and this has been the plan for Dawntrail as well, according to a Reddit post.
"Lost 75% of the playerbase" is a completely wrong statement lol
People like you are intriguing to me. If we have an issue with the game then the dev's tell us to say so on the forum because they're stuck in 2001 and forget that other forms of social media are where most players express their opinions of the game. Then we come to the forum and say we have an issue with the game. Then the dev's ignore us and people on the forums tell us that if we're not here to glaze Lordgod Yoshi P then we should unsub and play other games. And then we do. And then it gets quiet on the forums and they start to lower the production quality of FF14 because it's bleeding players and the income flow is disappearing at a rate so alarming that SE investors are speaking out. Are you going to call them whingers [sic] too (I'm assuming you were trying to call valid complaints "whining" in an effort to minimalize the validity of the complaint and shift the focus from the billion dollar company who actually has a responsibility in the matter back to the player. For what reason I simply cannot intelligently reason)?
It's such bizarre behavior. Trying to invalidate the legitimacy of a complaint by painting the individual who's making the complaint as emotional or irrational. To what end? I simply have to know. The forum was designed for feedback and discussion. If you don't like the feedback and discussion, may I recommend Reddit or Bluesky? Twitter lets people who have legitimate complaints speak their minds though so you might wanna avoid that place.
Remember, most players have left the game full stop. And most of those didn't even say a word when they left, they just left. It should be seen as a blessing to the dev's that some of us are willing to give some insight into why their flagship game is in decline, and will eventually begin to enter a state of failure at this rate. Obstructing legitimate criticism and valid feedback is not a boon for the game's health, it is a detriment. The forum goalies need to realize this.
I’m amazed that people don’t see how “forums only seem to have energy when stupid controversy borne of squares awful decision making comes around” isn’t just a massive red flag in it of itself
And I’m one of the “manic” poster exmo would be describing, even I barely care anymore
Not everyone who complains is a whinger.
If you get defensive at the thought that you might be a whinger, you might be a whinger.
I said the forums were manic, not people were manic. Deliberately misreading simple sentences uncharitably makes you look like a total thorn.
Can we get a definition of “who complains but is not a whiner”
Because from previous interactions with you it seems like that definition starts and stops at “complains about thing I decide are allowed to be complained about” given you’ve called people whiners before who are providing detailed arguments about their problems simply because you didn’t like the stance they took
At its core the forum itself is literally a platform with some degree of hierarchical structure that organizes different sets of data in a database. Hosted on a website. It is incapable of taking on behaviors and personality traits such as "mania" by its very nature because those are behaviors that only biological life is capable of performing at this current time. This logically leads one to a singular conclusion: When one references the forum in such a way that they're describing its "behaviors" or "personality," they are inherently discussing the people who create the data stored in the database (such as posts, go figure). It's actually the most charitable and honest interpretation someone can naturally derive.
idk what kind of pseudo logic you're using to deflect here but it's not doing much for me, sorry.
y do ppl keep falling for exmo's ragebait : wilted_rose:
Part of the problem is that sections like Lore tend to have a relatively narrow set of players being active there in the first place, and if they're currently on break or left the game, the sub-forum will become more stagnant. There's also the matter of some threads that should have been posted in Lore being posted in General instead, because some users can't be bothered to check the sub-forums and General is simply the most active by far so they go here by default.
So it's not really a DT issue specifically, although it is more noticeable in this expansion due to the overall lower amount of players.
Check housing today on EU, so many plots demolished. Auto demolish is back.
you know it is bad when people are letting that many houses go.
Personally, I'd recommend checking in a couple weeks. Houses that got auto-demolished point to people with houses who have cycled out, but not people without houses who have cycled back in (and couldn't get a house b/c the plots were full). Auto-demo has been paused for a long time. If those houses don't get re-filled, then it means something to me. If they simply get swept right back up, all it was really "evidence" of is how long auto-demo was turned off; many of the people may have moved on a long time ago.
Are you sure, really? I mean, if the owners found a new game or lost interest in FFXIV, it's nice that everyone who wanted a house can buy them now on EU.
They had like 3k open plots in Aether a few months ago, which is huge since we rarely get added new housing wards.
And then people will say that the bubonic plague was good because it created a labor scarcity and workers were able to leverage it to their advantage and ignore that most of the people from Europe into Asia died. There's like 3 houses available in the entire game or whatever. Of course *someone's* gonna take one of them. By your metric, the game could have 6k active players per data center and it be a good thing since everyone gets a house.
On the bright side, a lot of houses are opening up for folks. But it's not a good indicator by any means. It's actually kind of alarming
You know, I actually used to think Square was insane.
A while ago I charted out in the Housing section of this forum how every year or so consistently, we'd get new wards + new housing region, and I was saying over there like, "Man, you guys. Why has it been three whole years without any new wards or housing regions added? Not a single one, not ONE new ward in literal years-what is going on that we're not getting anything housing related anymore, not even house skins?"
I wasnt thinking big enough. It's not about..adding new wards. That's rookie thinking, small brained.
The REAL move is to make the game SO boring and bad that everyone quits, and then just like that you don't have to spend a dime because all the housing wards are open again-great job, I'm put in my place, never would have thought of it like that!!
i was actually thinking about whenever the game invariably enters its maintenance mode, how empty the wards would be. whether that be 5 or 10 years from now. it would just be really interesting to see something like a large untouched for months or years just because people don't play anymore.
