just heard audio of some mystical parallel universe where we have 5.0 solid barrel and 5.01-present gnashing fang SFX.

I would ask more serious question. 5.01 patch was huge downgrade. I'm not saying 5.0 was objectively top tier, but 5.01 sounds like a club, which is wrong. The question should be "when are you going to fix it" and not "are you going to fix it".
They blatantly ignore our feedback and this is not cheap F2P game so we have all rights to expect some level of quality. They are really reaching level of a very specific studio with name starting on B, and i'm concerned.
GNB FX it's just perfect for me !
Having heard the mod now, I can say its vastly superior to the current sounds other than the fact they should port over the 5.01 explosion sfx for burst strike too, other than that the devs should just take that mod and implement it lol.
I agree but it is still subjective to the user. So wording that way is ignoring the portion of players that supposedly enjoy the new effects. At least this is a more reasonable question to make it open and aware of how some people hear the SFX. Better chance of it not being ignored as a question. That'd be like saying "The final boss of Shadowbringers is boring, make it interesting." That's subjective without much reason or open-ness and would likely be just as easy to ignore. We can't just have pitch forks and torches for all of it; we have a chance to be mature and ask the question as a genuine player. Let's show we're not heathens/trolls and ask while we have a chance to have it recognized.
The 5.01 GNB SFX seems to puts more focus on the slashing/slicing sound and the explosion sound rather than than the constant clanking that 5.00 GNB SFX but because they got rid of the "bang" part like you were firing a gun, the dip quality became that much clearer, because 5.01 GNB SFX is only missing the "bang" part which seems to be the thing I want more but that's just a me thing...
The problem is, there's no slicing in our version now.... It's clubbing and heavy swings. The explosions are greater and almost overdone, but really I feel like the trigger pulls and complex sounds we heard before made the blade unique to the others.
You're not wrong and I agree entirely, but right now is the best chance we have of that getting noticed. Especially with how many likes it has too.
I hope they adress the 2 biggest request of the tank forum in the next letter, lets keep pushing gentlement.
PSA there is a thread for the Live letter to ask Soken (lead sound designer/composer) questions. I'd recommend respectfully going over there to make our voices heard. Remember to upvote posts you'd want to see addressed!
There is probably never going to be a better chance than this. Just be nice. He's a treasure.
edit: Ok don't keep asking. Just like the hell out of --> http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post5244869 instead
This specifically.

Random thing I noticed... Ignore the beginning of the video's SFX because tbh, even they sound like they're different and missing something. But listen specifically to 0:37 for when they overlay the SFX on the /bstance emote.
https://youtu.be/uTe_GM8uEk0?t=38
They could literally just use these 2 slice sound effects as stock, and replace all the slashes for GNB with these, and it would sound just fine.... Why can't they have more sounds exactly like what they showcased on a damn emote?
Also that link isn't working for me :S
It has some weird echo applied, but it actually has some weight, so with some adjustments it would be perfect balance between 5.0 and 5.01. 5.0 sound effects are superior to 5.01, but they undeniably have zero weight. But this is one handed blade, so it can't sound like a heavy blunt object we currently have.
Well, now that I'm finally out of the naughty pen for saying positive things about potential files, I'll be able to add my vote to the GNB question for Soken. Much of my advocation during my time away from the forums was on Twitter. There's thankfully more visible growing support for a reversal, but we can only hope that folks continue to advocate for GNB to be reverted to 5.0 rather than just give up when we don't get our question asked in the live letter a second time.
Also, another thing I wish... Though considering how long it's taking to address this one issue I doubt it would ever happen but... I'd love if Fated circle was actually its own animation and not just explosions slapped onto Demon Slaughter. Like I'd love the version we see Squall use of Fated Circle in Dissidia's original games, a really quick two handed spin of small red orbs and a hard trigger pull at the end of the spin that detonates them all at once would be beautiful in this game.

Like shown here in the over dramatized dissidia cutscene. Looks better as the skill in the game than the cutscene arguably but you get the jist of the animation idea.
Well, the fact that a few of us got banned clearly means they're monitoring this thread...but still no response from SE, as always.
what?
people got banned?
Yeap, because they mentioned someone created a mod for the GNB SFX because so many have had it with them currently...Though while mods that only affect client-side SFX/visuals don't have an impact on other players, mods are still technically against ToS, which is sad there are people having to pretend they're not using them because they really just want the better SFX for GNB back. In any case, they exist, but obviously no one should tell someone else where to actually obtain them, to use them, or warrant any talk about things that go directly against SE's ToS that would result in a suspension/ban to each person. I'm not blaming who got banned at all and I feel bad tbh that this is how that went down but if you had a choice to play the game with crap SFX or not play at all... I guess pick one?
Speaking of which, there's no adjustment to the SFX thus far in these patch notes still. So.... not this patch either fellas :/. I guess keep sending in those suggestions and up-voting that question to the SFX developer thread.
Yeah, myself and Renthas were banned as far as I know. Only a ten day ban, but I've learned my lesson. There's no modification, and it doesn't exist and I won't be talking about it at all. I mean, I get it, don't talk about it in any capacity since it's against the ToS. Still it's kind of ridiculous that they can take the time to ban folks for wanting to enjoy the game as it IS STILL BEING ADVERTISED AS, but can't take the time to even address the situation. So it's cool. I'll just keep showing up for every live letter to ask about it, attend irl events, send suggestions, constantly tag them on twitter. They'll eventually have to address it, because I will quite literally never stop.
At least if it goes unaddressed in the next live letter, we'll know they might actively be avoiding the issue.
I doubt they will mention it in next live letter. In the "best" case scenario they will just say "But people love new SFX!", to create an illusion that there is no problem.
Currently lots of people believe that FFXIV is perfect and flawless, so if we spread the word that it's not really that good as it seems devs might do something. That's why i suggest joining our Twitter campaign.
I mean, you don't have to lie. It does exist, just like practically anything modders do exist because you could copy paste a picture of Elmo through their devices onto a Roegadyn's head and make it a thing. It's just the fact no one who plays FFXIV is supposed to use mods, I know may do regardless and they just don't bring it up because of this exact situation though. It's only an offense when you either admit to using them or you give data on how people can obtain them. Similarly to if you gave players an advertisement on how to hack FFXIV, it's just a case/measure to prevent players from breaking ToS at the source. They just removed the posts so players won't get banned for using mods in game and etc and wagged their fingers at the players suspended to let them know not to show authors and mods and all that.
They can ban me right now for saying this but it's a fact, there are mods of the GNB SFX just as there are prolly mods of dresses/outfits from other games or something along those lines. I don't use em, I don't condone anyone using them and breaking the ToS, and I'm not giving out any location or information where to find any of it. But they exist, just like anything taboo you don't talk about at parties. It's wrong to talk about murder at a party, it doesn't mean it doesn't happen/exist though. In any case, just be smart fellas, have faith they will say at least SOMETHING about this at the SFX question thread. Even if it's just "no".
I forget that sarcasm doesn't translate well online. The whole "It doesn't exist" bit was sarcasm. I was already banned once, I'm not going to let it happen again. Any discussions pertaining to files I do not own, I keep those conversations to locations like twitter and reddit. no need to take a risk. It's my hope that Soken addresses it, we'll see in a few days.
So basically they have read and know this thread and other posts from other forums regarding the gunblade sfx but because they are afraid of changing back to the original and getting people saying they prefer the new one again they are doing a wait and see approach and if players still can't get used to it they will revert the gunblade sfx back to the original.Quote:
Yoshida cited the Gunblade issue because of how he changed because a lot of people didn't like the initial Gunblade but after changing it, he also get a lot of comments saying that some preferred the newer gunblade SE.
Yoshida then commented that players have the tendency to develop a bias where players will stick to the voice they feel comfortable and any changed disrupted the "used-to" feeling that they have developed over time.
Therefore Yoshida commented that people should give it time and get used to the voice first, if people STILL couldn't get used to it after all and request changes, then they can comment and request it.
Do note that you are free to comment about the SE changes not just in OF but other venues like Reddit, they do read them.
I still do not like the new sfx. It upsets me due to how perfect the old one sounded, at least to me. So I would still like the old one back please Square Enix. /prettyplease
Fantastic. They'll probably do nothing.
They mentioned the gunbreaker sound complaints but the answers were so stupid. Saying that people didn't like the initial sounds...wtf that's what made want to play the job! So we are stuck with horrible sounds forever ...
I appreciate all who are fighting for them to change sounds from what they currently are (either in this thread or outside it), gives me some happiness. It's just very distressing to me the whole GNB sfx thing in general. I loved the old sounds so so much and then they changed them to new ones that just don't even compare they sound awful, and it's causing me so much upset every time I think there may be a sliver of hope in the patch notes or a live letter. And today that hope rose high and at the same time got shattered in to pieces.
This thread originally started in June, it is now December which is a fair amount of time to "wait and see" as they mentioned in the live letter today. And while I get they may not want to upset the few that may like the current sounds there is way more in favour of not liking the current sounds... It's just yeah very disappointing and upsetting and it's making me feel like not playing 14 at all.
I won't give up until they are changed. But at the same time I will be very upset until they are. It just hurts.
Sorry.
There's still the elusive 5.0 gunbreaker mod out there somewhere. I can't say anything further on it, but I know it exists.
It's amusing that a mod exists, given it's one of the only audio mods I can think of. Created solely from the backlash of everyone who hates how the class sounds. If that's not enough of a message of how people don't like the new shit, I don't know what is.
Yeah, exactly like one of my expectations. They answered, but they lied. Barely anyone likes new sound effects because it simply sounds like a club. And majority of people expect a blade. Keep up the pressure. They are not getting away with that one. #fixGNBsfx on Twitter is waiting.
Honestly... This. It's still a somewhat vague answer but it still gives hope and gives us reason to keep submitting our requests. These SFX are absolutely not good and I'm still not over it after all this time. We need to make it clear that we are firm on the stance and they are too blunted/bad sounding. They said it themselves, they're waiting to see if we're truly outraged at the sounds or if we can "get used to it". I can't still, it sounds too blunt and again... I DON'T WANT EVERY FUTURE SKILL ADDED TO THIS JOB TO SOUND BASED OFF OUR CURRENT SFX. So, all this said... Keep submitting those suggestions, give your feedback on every avenue (twitter, reddit, so on). Now isn't the time to give up, now is the time to show you care enough about this and show them we're not just idle about leaving them alone. They were already fine sounding (minus Fated Circle), we need to make that clear to them and not just sit on their reply.
I also suggest linking comparison videos wherever you can. Lots of people who started to play the job after 5.01 probably can feel that something is wrong but can't tell what. If we enlighten them they might join the cause.
