Disappointed in Youkai Watch

Which is why this is a two~ month long event if you are getting 4~ medals per day you would easily be able to get every weapon before the end with about an hour of low level fate grinding in the proper area with the proper minion unless you are /severely/ unlucky.

SE pretty obviously doesn't want people to get all of them in one day or we would not have so much time.

if the drop rate is 1/10 (rough guess), then it would take ~2220 fates total. This event is running for 68-69 days, meaning that you would have to (statistically) do 33 fates every single day from the events start to end in order to finish them all, and even that is cutting it fine as you would be finishing on the last day of the campaign, so realistically it is more fates than that per day.

I must be having some obscenely good luck if that is the case because I got 7 in a little over an hour for my first weapon and 4 in an hour when i started on the second, just tagging along with the fate groups and doing my part.

Yes you must have luck. One of the areas i received almost 30 medals before i finally seen a Legendary
I have all minions and mount so that's ok i suppose .....
This is not AS bad as atma was when first introduced, but wow does it suck, lol
I think that is the reason some are so frustrated with this event, because those of us who had endured the atma nonsense almost seems like atma all over again.

XD i am actually doing atma again on a new character while doing this so that pain is still freshly in my mind lol..

I would suggest though that nobody try to just grind for all the medals in a week >.>;; burning out before you get what you need because you tried too hard isn't going to get weapons in to your glamor hoards 4~ a day and you will get there.

Oh wow, I don't know why but I thought this thread was another joke about the "disappointed in X" threads.

From what I hear, someone on the JP server already got all the weapons by doing around 556 FATEs.
You need 222 Advanced Medals to get all the weapons.
At 556 FATEs, that player had to, on average, get a medal every 2-3 FATEs. That's incredibly lucky...

That's variance for you, atma was much the same, with people who got it early being confused why there were so many complaints "the RNG isn't that bad, I got 4 of mine today"

There are people who will be unable to finish the event because of the opposite end of the variance, and with a rough average (I'll be honest 1/10 is nothing but speculative) of 33 fates per day absolute minimum, I can see a lot of people out of luck with this one.

At 703 Fates I now have all the weapons and the mount. I had some awful luck.

Grinding fates all day that's all it is, not worth re-subbing if anyone planing to do so.

They made it 2 months because patch 3.4 comes out in what November-December time? So they had to fill in the gap between August and December or no one would sub. They made no effort in making it fun. After you finish the 5 sentence story you're off to grind fates. They could of put the event in every part of the game like low level dungeons, leves, random monsters, crafting, gathering, and really anything. They could of made it so we had to find the lil'monsters throughout the world that spawn randomly for different players. Nope said developers its like they were closing down early for the weekend on Friday and realized "dammit we forgot to add the Yo-kai items into the game so that player can go and find them". Then that one office guy who doesn't really care about his job, but does enough so the boss wont notice him says "screw it, just add some tokens into the game and make them grind fates all day with a 20% drop rate that should make it last."

I haven't actually started the event yet, and this thread just took any and all motivation out of me to even give it a shot.
I remember how back when this event was announced, Yoshi said he doesn't want players to get all the weapons and to just really think about which ones we want really badly.
Back then I thought "Bring it on! I don't care about the grind! I want them aaaall!"
But.
I never expected the method of obtaining to be MORE fate grinding. MORE RNG. I have the worst luck possible.
I quit the game over the original atmas.
To this day, I STILL haven't managed to get all the crystals for the new relic.
This is the most horrible, laziest event design I have ever seen in FFXIV and I refuse to kill my joy over this again.
Put the rewards in the cash shop or whatever, even if it's $50 per weapon, it's still faster and more easily earned than those FATE medals >_>

Well another thing is you don't HAVE to cram 2 months into 2 days. It was just released, spend maybe an hour a day and you'll do fine and be able to get it all. Currently have 3 weapons and 3 medals toward the next but I honestly think I'd start strangling fellow lalafells if I tried to get them all as quick as some of you.

What makes it worse is the achievements that are locked with them. For people who are obsessed with those points they HAVE to get all 13 weapons or else they miss out. Honestly the mount doesn't even look all that amazing (unless it plays a different tune from the minion one?) but I just know I'd be regretting it if I didn't get the weapons for glamour purposes.

I am averaging 1 medal every 30 mins (1 per 6 fates with between travel time and the fate itself are around 4-5mins based on the number of non legendary medals I have) I am not trying to cram it into 2 days but if I dont get at least 3-4 medals every single day then I cant get enough in 61 days (2 months). That means every single day I must spend with my average drop rate around 1 and a half to 2 hours. I think even for making it a daily activity over 2 months that is a bit excessive. Also keep in mind those who wait are going to have to do the fates without the massive amount of people so it will be slower making that time go up as more and more people stop the grind so waiting will only make things take longer and seem even more tedious.

I find FATEs easier without the hoard. All the hoard does is inflate difficulty.

Few people on reddit have done theirs with around 800 fates. 25% drop chance.

so like farming 200+ atmas? Might as well dig up my zenith and finish them all

As for me, I don't have any problems with this event. I got all the minions, the first mount and the three weapons I wanted to get.
FATE grinding was mildly annoying but bearable. Guess I was lucky because I got legendary medals from like 3/5 to 4/5 of the FATES I did.

Does the fact that teleporting costs gil not break anyone's immersion? O.o

There is a big lore discussion on that and duty commenced even covered it. With the calamity, a lot of aethyrites were destroyed, and thus had to be rebuilt. The syndicate in Ul dah ultimately paid out a loan to the eorzian alliance for the repairs, and thus put a charge on using it. You don't see it (gameplay logic) but when you use an aethyrite, you actually pay a syndicate representitive when you teleport. It is still not explained how this works for natural aethyrites in azyz lla, sea of clouds, and churning mists, but presumably, attuning them costs money for the syndicate.

Legendary drop rate should be 100%.

It really is like they wanted to remind us how atma was when first introduced.
Surely they could be more creative with events other then add it to fates..
I did like the idea someone had suggested about being able to turn in ___ amount of medals for a Legendary,
i really can see some players possibly even myself included that even if this event is 2 months we may not get all weapons, that's how horrid the rng is.

They do a surprisingly good job of easing you in. After a crazy session of about 16-18 hours of straight fate grinding, I'm sitting at 4 weapons and a handful of other medals now.

Making this RNG based really sucks though. For once, I'm somewhat favored, but other people in my parties got 1 medal at most during all this time.
I really wish they gave us the option to trade in the normal medals for legendary ones, I already have like a hundred more than I can buy minions with. Now they are useless and it feels like they are taunting me everytime a FATE ends and no legendary drops but yet another useless normal one...

Even though it doesn't feel as horrible as original atmas (yet, thanks to the insane number of people rushing through FATES), I still won't take back saying it is the laziest event design I have encountered so far.
Which is even worse when you consider that they obviously put so much effort in all other categories designing this event, like how every minion has it's own unique look, music, motions, etc.

omg , thats a lot of fate grinding.

getting 1 weapon and not touching it again. The glamour weapons arent that cool , and the mount is the same (brights on night booohoo )

Forget the fate grind
Forget the questionable designs of some of the items
Forget the absurd RNG in getting the weapons

I, above all else, can't STAND that the weapons aren't level 5. Like seriously, what a giant missed opportunity.

yeah....unfortunately they are level 30.

I went through six toons total and did the event. Got all the minions, the one weapon for the class each toon is, and that was all I wanted. :) I like the minions, especially the one with the dragon scarf. The only one I don't like is Manjimutt. That thing just looks really freaking creepy. And the space one just made me roll my eyes.

Well after having my internet down for a week I managed to do the event and it really wasn't that bad
Traveler from another land - reasonable, so was Lightning
Mimics the first episode of Yokai Watch loved that, this game loves attention to detail

Can't wait for the next event from an outside source should we ever get another one, didn't see the issue with this event nor is it immersion breaking. That's the NA Final Fantasy XIV community for you on another note...no Level-5 references like the XIII weapons all being ilvl 13? Missed opportunity.

It took me 740 FATES to completely finish this event (including the FATES required to obtain all 13 minions). That is a 30 percent Legendary drop rate. Make sure you are having fun watching Netflix/Youtube while doing this event to balance it out.

Here is a genuine question. Since there are two months for this event, why do you have to bash it out as quickly as you can in a mindless grind wih Netflix/You tube to distract you? Couldn't you just space it out over the two months and gather the medals/legendary medals as you go? It seems as though that was the intent and not that players burn themselves out on FATE in a week or less.

I can't speak for anyone else, nor would I recommend it for anyone else unless they want to get it over with ASAP. but the reason i did is simple. I wanted the achievements. The Yo-kai weapons are one of 4 different weapon sets that give out achievements simply for obtaning the item. The other three being the Relic, Aetherpool and Anima weapons, the latter having achievements for subsequent stages as well. The thing is you have all the time in the world to get all the Relic/Aetherpool/Anima weapons. The Yo-Kai weapons? You only have 2 months, I rather not try to leave something like that incomplete, a possibility when stretching out and miscalculating the amount of medals you try to go for on a daily basis.

In addition, this event would be very luck dependent, which means that doing the grind over time would still cut into time for other grinds (Primal Mounts, PvP, PoTD, etc) and only stickting to a set amount of time per day means one unlucky day could set you back substantially.

i hate FATEs too much to do them for 2 months xD so i finished the whole thing within 5 days. better have no fun for a week than no fun for 2 months...

Why not watch Netflix or Youtube while doing good content? I don't get this argument. "Event is terrible, but it's ok, watch something fun on a 2nd monitor". Why not go play Clicker Heroes then? And conversely, does having a show or whatever run on a 2nd screen distract you from better content? It shouldn't.

I wanted achievement points. The mount is pretty cute imho btw. Plus finishing it means I do not feel obligated to do FATES when I do log into the game. I do not really want to do FATES for 2 months to be honest, so it took me one week to finish. I can just raid, craft, and gather, and talk to friends in Linkshells. Also, I may not have free time due to work and school schedules.

Have you ever fished in this game? It is sort of the same thing. Doing your opener and AOE rotation during FATES is quite repetitive if choosing to do the grind. MMOs are huge, repetitive grind-fests, so it just comes with the territory.

That defeats the purpose of a video game. I play games because they're a better source of entertainment. I shouldn't have to find joy in TV when FF14 should be providing it to me as a replacement and not half-assing it.

Like Morningstar1337 already said, I cant speak for everyone but I also finished it yesterday (648 fates) because I just wanted to be done with it. I never liked fates and even though we have two months for it, I was a little afraid that I wont manage to finish it if I don't do it now. The medals are RNG and a 30% droprate would still make it a chance of 70% to not get everything so I said to myself that I will do it now and still have enough time left if RNG hates me that much. I mean there is that other event coming, still wanted to try out Palace of the death solo, maybe my guild mates will want to farm mounts and notes again soon and so on. Still lots of stuff to do right now which could hinder the progress of the weapons.

And lets not forget that now many people will do it, so a lot of the fates will be done quite quickly. I feared that later not many will do it and even if the HP is then way lower, it would still take much more time alone than with lots of people there. I also find the number of fates to finish the weapon, still horrible even if its stretched out over two months, and right now I still had some motivations left to do it, so I made use of that too. I probably would have lost any motivation to finish it, if I had to do fates all months long. At least now I can mostly ignore them (moonfire sadly has fates again Q_Q) and can now do something that at least feels like fun again.

So in the end I did it now because I still had motivation to farm it and because I was afraid that something would come in the way of farming later and that I would not be able to finish it. I mean there could be always things in RL too that could hinder you playing the game, but all the other things that I wanted to try ingame will always be there, while this event has a time limit. (And I do dislike the event but as a mount collector I at least wanted that mount in my collection..)

Oh and I used youtube too as a way to distract myself a little. Fate farming in such low regions are always boring..sometimes you can only use like 2 or 3 skills, so I used my time efficient by finishing this (imo) bad event and at the same time catching up some of the lets plays I wanted to watch. ;)

Thanks to those who responded to my question. I appreciate your answers, and I can see the point such as not leaving it until it's too late. I don't entirely agree though because personally I tend to dip into many different things each play session, so spending hours just running FATE doesn't compute for me. But that's a difference in playstyle. Thanks for answering.

Oh, one other thing, Alleo mentioned doing the FATE kore quickly, I can see that point, but also as someone with both alt characters and alt jobs at lower levels I find it difficult to get any credit in those FATE that are zerged in record time. But I'll just run them a little later with a fried.

I normally do lots of different things too and hate doing many fates a day but since I know that my RNG is sometimes really horrible and because I still had some motivation left, I just powered through it. It was probably a little too much in those few days so maybe I should have spread them out a little more but after I got my first 8 weapons I was like "wanna finish it this week" and pulled it through. (Okay I needed monday too) Often I am quite the slow player, still did not finish the new anima part and normally take my time but this one was different. Hopefully I wont have to do such a thing again in the near future because it was not fun.

I agree with the problem of not getting any credits as a low level character with many people around and I can see this as a problem and source of frustration for new players too. They will try out this event or maybe even want to just level a bit but are barley able to get there in time (often don't have mounts). IMO it would have been better if every single zone (even HW zones) would have dropped those. People could have used it way better to level their character depending on their level and newer players might not have problems in getting the credits. You still could have like three weapons that you can only get in those low lvl zones but at least there would have been more choices. But well its to late for that right now.
