Well played, good sir.
Course we will. Just like any Guy playing a female, for what ever reason they have, also slide it max and some girls do to. My wife did. LOL that's why instead of a slider it should just be a decent sized default in the body model. Something as 3D as the females, nothing with detail I mean Yda's shorts were so tight and hiked up if it had detail there would have been camel toe man LOL. But Yeah, the Male models should just get a default appearance.
Yeah, i wondered about that myself. I don't get why that is. And even then acording to my FC theres Mods that add even more definition to the musculature and the nips, which i never understood mods in this case i mean no one else can see it but you, but what ever makes them happy. But i do agree it does seem odd that the Hyurs get that option and the others don't. And whats wrong with nips? how is it somehow obscene they exclude that sort of bodily detail?
I made my midlander lady max muscle! I forget what her bust was. It doesn't matter. What matters is that she looks like she can bench press at least three Lalafells. Or maybe juggle them.
I won't get into the absurdly short shorts the ladies get. You think that stuff would stay in place after a fancy tornado kick? Hah! Think again! Wedgies and camel toes as far as the eye can see...
It's funny that people are totally fine with exaggerated female breasts in games .. or exaggerated male chest muscles .... but people are bothered by exaggerated male junk.
/facepalm
Don't roes have muscle definition too? Maybe I'm mistaken.
My guess for Hyur might be the lack of 'exotic' features. They have no tail option or ear option etc, that could be why they have the muscle definition as something to give the 'human' option that doesn't have as much to stand out compared to other races.
It might actually be the other way around - in the sense of: each character model can only hold so much information. I read an excellent downbreak of that a while ago... but what it comes down to is: Each model can only have a certain set of variabls. If a model has a tail-option, thats one slot blocked, so you cant have a tail-option and a muscle-slider.
Yeah...no. There are many guys playing female characters for...eh...esthetic reasons...that do not put the breast slider at max. I should know, I'm one of them.
If there was a bulge slider and I made a male character, in any game, I'd actually put it at the smallest size possible. It's an eyesore. And it doesn't mean anything at all. Anatomically speaking the size of the bulge have absolutely nothing to do with the time it's being used. Go look it up if you don't know what I mean.
It's doubly so for a digital character. Men and women look at womens breasts for appeal world-wide. Neither men nor most women care about the bulge as far as the appeal goes. It's only a matter of some men that don't know the first thing about their own anatomy trying to look for "bragging rights"...which are moot when anyone could make a character like they did...
A funny thing. Nipples are the only part of a womans breasts that need to be covered to satisfy the laws in most countries of America and Europe as far as "public obscenity goes". You can just cover them with a band-aid and if you do...you're green to go public, legally speaking. By extension, if there are any top-less bans on men, they also only apply to nipples.

*Pokes his head in*
I only ask for Male characters to have a bulge, even just a little, to make them more aesthetically realistic. To myself personally seeing a flat canvas on the lower section of a Male characters feels unrealistic and...incomplete(?) to me. Sorry if this doesn't make sense. I can be a huge perfectionist when it comes to character aesthetics at times so Male characters missing even a small bulge of some sort irks me a little. >-<;
There are people out there who appreciate male packages, shockingly. Not everyone gets cooties when they see a hint of masculinity in the nether regions... Seeing ken doll anatomy when there could be just the smallest of bumps to let me know I'm not some special category of alternate genitalia fetish is a bit of a bummer. I'm not going to crusade for it, it doesn't affect my character or how likely I am to quit or not, but it would be a tiny thing to make me like the game tad more. (I think this thread was created some time ago as a non-serious request anyway.)
We can all keep being nippleless wonders though- that's more amusing than anything.
I'm irl female and I don't particularly want to see any bulge other than my husbands, but I think they should have at least a slight bulge, that Ken doll flatness just isn't realistic (nor is the too-flat butts of female characters. That hip-to-butt ratio is just weird). Atm their budgie smugglers look like cardboard smugglers, and I can understand why guys would want the bulge.
Its a natural part of their gender, that looks like it's been cut off in the game. And that just doesn't quite sit right with me.
There's a lot of people who are fine with the idea of a slight, tasteful bulge to reflect anatomy. The people who speak out against such things are a very vocal minority...and tend to be the sort in need of self reflection and acceptance to understand why basic anatomy unnerves them so much.
Overwatch didn't die out or suffer as a result of the inclusion of tasteful bulges on the male character models. Just make it optional and those who want it can toggle it on and those who don't can toggle it off. That's a solid enough compromise.
I think you misunderstand me. I have not posted anything in this thread since its creation up till now for a simple reason. I don't care either way. I won't mind male characters being flat there, nor will I particularly be against it being added.
My response was to the specific poster that implied that every guy out there would want to use the slider to make maximum bulge size because it's supposedly a point of appeal for men. It's not. Neither anatomically nor socially. Unlike breasts which are part of an appeal for majority of people of both genders, bulge is a point of appeal for a minority, and even then mostly for one gender. In fact, I'm pretty confident in saying that more people care about their own bulges because of their ignorance rather than those of others for their appeal.
I'd argue that one of the reasons as to why breasts are considered to be more appealing is due to their prominence in the media. In earlier civilisations - such as The Roman Empire - it wasn't unusual to walk around and see nude statues of both women and men, nor did many bat an eyelid at the idea of appreciating the aesthetics of both genders. Now, obviously we don't need full on nudity within FFXIV but the shift in attitudes towards anatomy is very much a consequence of 'modern' society.
I'm also not convinced that it is truly a 'minority' of people who appreciate such aspects of the male form, either. Up until recently, people were persecuted for their sexuality after all - and in some countries, they still risk being killed for it. I imagine that plays a large part in people being quiet about their tastes - and it's very telling that when progress is made in regards to the acceptance of sexuality in a particular country then there's a lot of people who come out as homosexual or bisexual.
On a related note, from an in-game lore perspective sexuality is something that doesn't really bother anybody within Eorzea. It'd be nice if that could be reflected by the character models to make such a stance feel authentic. In a tasteful manner, of course.
Did we really need this thread necro'd...? >_>;
Appeal have nothing to do with sexuality, you know? The primary physical points of appeal in men going by questionnaires usually involve musculature. Heck, the focus is on the upper body part, not the lower. It is, in fact, similar in women, except the points of appeal are the defining traits (face, hair etc) rather than the body type, with the exception of buttocks (which, ironically, in this game are non-existent despite being statistically more important than breasts).
Both men and women, heterosexual and homosexual can say that someone is handsome or attractive. It was most always the case, except when surrounded by the most extreme parts of the society. You can be 100% heterosexual and say that some guy is handsome and takes care of himself without anyone saying anything other than "I agree" or "I disagree". Similarly a woman can be 100% heterosexual and can say that some woman is beautiful, to a similar result.
Don't mix points of appeal with romantic interests. They are two entirely different things, even if the latter does work nicely with the former at times.
since when the anatomy is taboo? XD
Imo it's the same thing than having a character with none eyes or no ears, hello people/SE 0/ men have a bulge maybe you are discovering this idk XD
Just another detail which prooves that this game is clearly focused on female characters lol
As an aside, there's an option for one of the characters in FFXV - Gladio - to strip until he's shirtless. He didn't lack nipples, thankfully. I'm not sure why there's such an aversion to nipples for men in FFXIV. I do have some theories, though they're perhaps a bit too controversial to voice here...
It might just be a cultural thing. If you've watched any anime, males will typically have no nipples with a few exceptions. I haven't really looked into other Japanese media so I don't know how to compare this.
I am neutral to the thread suggestion. Males look weird without their anatomy, but I think the lack of butt is weirder. Butts for all.
I'd like for bulges, especially in gear where it makes sense that one would show up. There doesn't need to be a slider, as such, but Overwatch went ahead with them and the world did not end, plus it's nice to have males who don't look like flatpacks down there. I don't see the point in pretending men don't have something down there - it just looks weird, tbh.
Too much pixels, too much data --> server explosion cause of bulges and butts XD i prefer laugh about it even if i think it's a bit saddening we are soon in 2019 :D add this to the thread concerning the lack of character customization and we have a combo.
*deep breath*
No, thank you.
We still can't becouse PS3 Limiting us.
Oh... wait.
I don't see it as sexual at all, it's part of the male body. A slider seems excessive but having it as it is now (literally ken doll) is also excessive in the other direction.
Butts for that matter. On some races the rear end is literally negative space that recedes in and it's awkward. We spend so much time looking at the back of our characters it's really a travesty.
Yoshida stated the reason in the recent interview when they asked why we cant have weight sliders. They dont want to have to go back and adjust 2000+ pieces of equipment.
You are the warrior of light not the warrior of love and manliness. :D
Well, they could easily create new equipment to give the illusion of a bulge...
They also mentioned something about an item that would glamour body hair on a character but we've yet to see anything along those lines.
We've had people asking for the option to have real eyebrows for male highlanders since the days of ARR. We've had people asking for more facial hair options.
We don't need excuses at this point - we need action. We're not even getting many masculine looking hairstyles these days either - the majority are designed to be very feminine or androgynous.
I want to say that I am laughing at this but lets be realistic here. The immaturarity level of the game would sky rocket if a bulge slider was put in, would not be long before we get questionable screen shots being posted on the forum. Example a Wedding of a Roe and lala when their rising into the air...ya we all get were this is going. I dont know about anyone else but some of the things I have seen happening in Limsa would get far more wrong if a bulge was present..

You mean...they might actually have to upgrade and update the game to accommodate said updates? The HORROR. Welcome to the MMO scene, SE, where a game needs to be kept up to date.
