Quite of a few software companies in a particular location in california (not naming any company here) have the entire software force working 60 hours a week, every week. Please don't talk about hings you don't know about. Oh and we are on salary, so no overtime, just "40 hours" of pay.

I'm not a big union guy but software engineers are really getting screwed over

The staff want to rest and all i see is OMG ill un sub or 3.0 has nothing to do and it's crap :P reading some of this is sad :( and once again makes the English speaking community look bad

Not unsubbing personally but it's growing increasingly difficult to find enjoyment in grinding out the last of my 60's when my main class (PLD) is still mediocre at best in endgame content. I'm currently levelling drk so I can attempt to clear some savage before 3.1, since no one will seriously consider adding a PLD to their static atm.

I don't got a problem with waiting a extra 2 months for more content does not bother me in the least. Dev team needs a break and fresh minds function better then burned out over worked ones. You want something complain about, trying waiting a year for new content. Then you will really have a reason too complain up one side and down the other about nothing new too do.

Nobody is forcing you to stay, it was stated well in advance the devs are on vacation and this patch cycle will be 2 months longer than normal, once 3.1 hits the next patches will be 3 month cycles.

It's like 15 a month is a lot of money or something, that's a pack of smokes in canada here.

We only learnt about this release date yesterday, how is that well in advance? People were speculating the end of September or Mid-October until now on both Reddit and here, along with a few FFXIV YouTubers.

That's not my problem the problem is how ppl act i mean if you wanna unsub do it that's fine but plz don't come on here to trash talk or say this games sooo boring just un sub and move on. since 99% of the ppl that do quit or un sub will be back once a patch drops so why complain and whine so others may see it? the staff made a good point {they wanna rest} and to see ppl complain about that i'm sorry but it's a lil rude is it not?

Almost everyone likes to express their opinion, whether it's nice or rude doesn't change that fact. There have been a few people saying they don't deserve a break which is silly, but for the most part the other people are expressing that the game is getting boring and will unsub for a month or two. The same could be said for you, ignore them and don't read this thread anymore, but you do so regardless because it's normal. I'm not saying it's right, but it is what it is.

I pay my sub to get content in the game, not take the devs on vacation. They deserve a break as much as I deserve what I pay for. How they do it I could not care less, it's no my job to fix their schedule, but I'm not paying them to do nothing either.

They do not deserve holidays. Put them in chain, brainwash them and make them work 24h with breaks only for food and physical needs. Then get more slaves and release content every month. Muahhahaha

Oh yes. The zones are pretty big and the story was an enjoyable ride... but once that's over and done with and you do the same thing for 2-3 months, you get (really) bored. Currently, the only end-game PvE content worth doing in FFXIV is: Expert and Trial Roulette for Esoterics and Alexander Normal (which is unfortunately too easy. I was really hoping it would be around the same level as EX Primals. Mid-tier content) for i190 gear to fill in the blanks. Alexander Savage is only for the hardcore raiders, which is fine.

I mean, that's not far off from Japan's actual work culture. There's a reason comfort bars are a huge industry.

For those that don't know about them, they're bars where workers can go and pay to have basic human contact and conversation because their lives are so devoid of it otherwise.

Why is it so unreasonable to suggest they hire someone else to do their work while they are on vacation? If I go to a restaurant and order a meal but the waiter's turn ends before it's ready, they don't make me wait until he comes back the next day... they get another waiter to cover.

^ This. It's understandable if they need a break, but I'm baffled they don't seem to have extra employees to bring in for when others are out. In 15 years of mmos, I don't think I've ever seen one where they come out and say "welp, content is being pushed back another 2 months because everyone's taking a vacation."

This could also be further proof that XIV isn't doing as well as some people might think, so they're cutting costs. Either that, or they're just trying to ride the money wave from people who can't see problems with the game, while putting the minimum they can into the game (2 dungeons, 4 bosses, more focus on vanity content etc rather than real mmo content)

Well for one there is still a lot to do in the game 2 this is not anything like a restaurant order {unless your order the whole place} sure you pay a sub and you can stop paying. SE is not saying oh heyy keep paying that ones up to you 100% this is the first big rest this games had and i don't think the worlds going to end over it :P How many other mmorpgs bring stuff out as fast as ff? not counting the free to play

I'm not sure why vacations affect the company workflow as a whole, but I'm actually glad, that next patch is delayed, so I have a bit more time to clear savage before it becomes a trash

personally i have been playing 2.0 w/o stoping for 2 reasons , i enjoy it , and because it puts content every so often...i have been telling people the same , come play FFXIV !!! , is fun and put lots of content every 3 months!!!.

Atm i still having fun , but 2nd reason isnt there anymore , the moment i get bored now is the moment i ask myself , unsub? , after all this months now a loyal costumer maybe leaves until the next content patch, or maybe im enjoying other game and dont bother coming back , thats a way to lose players overtime ...

14 has a very small team relative to how big it is.

Well, let's consider what he said during the live letter.

「ちょっとだけお休みを開発チームいただきました。あとワークフロー壊れてしまってるところとかを調整したので、ちょっといつものパッチよりは長くかかってるんですけど、１１月上旬リリースする予定です。」
「すみません、１０月には間に合わないですね。」

So, the dev team had a short break. He didn't say how long it was, we just know they had a short break.
They also had to fix problems with the work flow. What those problems are and how they affected the patch, we don't know.
The intended release schedule was October.

From the release of Heavensward, they've rolled out patches like so.

6/23 - 3.0 Heavensward Release
7/07 - 3.01 Alexander Normal and other additions
7/21 - 3.05 Alexander Savage, Frontline Seize, and other additions

I'm not going to count 3.07 as that was mostly job adjustments. The entirety of Heavensward was released in increments, with everything available on July 21.

Counting three months from that point puts us in October, the deadline he said they couldn't make.

For argument's sake, let's say the developers are incompetent jerks and they scheduled the release for October 26, a full three months from July 21, pushed to the nearest Tuesday because they always release on a Tuesday.

Then let's say the dev team at some point during this patch cycle took their breaks. Half took a week off, the other half took a week off and rotated.

Then they had to fix the problems with their work flow, which we don't know how it affected their schedule. Let's also include that this week just happens to be Silver Week, so unless they're working on national holidays, they are out of the office until Thursday, which costs them more time. Where does that put us?

We are paying for a product.

Personally I have little I'm interested in doing in game at the moment.

I'd be crafting and gathering right now but red script killed my interests just because of the weekly cap and needing to schedule my days around limited time mode spawns.

I won't complain like others have...but as paying consumers they have every right to do so.

The developers don't care if my work schedule interrupts my ability to cap on their weekly lockouts.

The developers don't care to make the game content just for the passion of the game. They religiously cut content and swing it unto the cash shop for profits.

Why are we to treat them any different? They are a business looking to make money and they are back peddling on their release schedules. It's as simple as that, I would love to have a different opinion but the current development team has done little to show me they are making this game with passion instead of with dollar signs in their eyes.

Well... my FC used to be 90+ players and now is 50+ cuz a LOT left the game after HW.

I loved HW Main Story and leveling our jobs was/is fun... but endgame is terrible both for casuals and hardcore on 3.0

2 primals ex (1 just drop glamour basically) 3 month and we cant still DF these primals
1 casual raid... i do 1 time each floor to get my drop and bye
2 dungeons in expert.... REALLY repetitive to do for 5 months
No ESO on high level roulette neither good exp for leveling
AlexS drops are terrible looking/non original for the effort
Hunts already irrelevant

We used to have more stuff to do on 2.0... 3.1 need to be HUGE to save my server population

I do not understand why some people are angry towards those that want to unsub, untill the new patch gets released? Its simple, I pay for the content, so when I know that the next two months will have no new content, then I will unsub. Do the developers deserve a holiday, afcourse, like everyone human being does. But does this mean, we should pay subscription fee when nothing is being delivered? The answer for me and others is NO!

Personaly, I am suprised that all the developers went on a holiday the same time and why dont they hire more people? Doesnt SE have enough money, I mean the expansion fee + subscription fee+ stuff bought from the cash store, should have brought a decent amount of money right?

Maybe its me, but with the lack of staff members + server memory thingy, makes me think that either SE is saving money or FFXIV is not doing as well as we all thought.

First SE is a company, not a person: a company shouldn't need a vacation. They should be able to allow staff vacations without the product stopping. When the entire project has to stop or have massive delays because of vacation, then that's just bad management, period.

Bottom line: If we are to believe that vacations are the reason for the delay, then by the math we will get 15 weeks worth of content for a 20 week delay. flat 25% loss on investment.

Since we still pay the same per month, we are getting 25% less content for our money.
and half the people want to pat them on the head and say good yoshi...

taking an average between 6 major patches and putting it against a major update with 1 major patch does not add an average correctly, when HW has as many patches as Arr did it will make a difference. not to mention they stated they planned to get back on schedule right away so it will go back to the normal 3 month patch schedule.

it doesn't properly add up because there isnt enough data

Before any of you say I'm white knighting, I'm not. I know when people are making a much bigger deal out of something than they should be. Wait till they have a few major patches out before saying there is such an increase.

No I blame Tanaka because his game was horrible.
I blame Yoshi-P because his department can't keep up the pace they set in 2.XX. He always said for subscription based games to survive today you have to pump out worthy content on a timely basis, which is true.

The way this is all being handled really reminds me of 1.0/FFXI days..when they weren't totally honest and kept information when it was convenient and so forth. I've supported Square all my life but they are making it really, really, really difficult for me to want to continue doing so.
