i am giving FFXIV a rest atm because i cant stand the community atm. if you arent playing with your old FFXI friends (because all are scattered around different worlds) and arent in a good FC there is no reason to play, at least not for me atm. So yeah giving it a rest for the next 3-4 months.
The absolute worst community in comparison to Rift, SWTOR, LOTRO, GW2 and yes, WoW.
I have never before seen so many people trolling for no reason. Tanks and healers queuing for primal battles (where the party is forced to disband once they lose one person) only to remain in CSs or drop groups before anything starts. Healers/Bards using healer LB3 on primal battles just before AoE hits - to see people force-raise and die again - and then ditching the party. Purely malicious crap just for the lulz, done to complete strangers they can't possibly have anything against.
I have never before seen so many people flying into rage the moment they disagree with/dislike something, no matter how minor. I have been in a CM run where a massive argument broke over whether to use the front or the back cannons for those few packs of mobs before the last boss, which ended with half the group leaving after pulling said boss, deliverately locking the rest out, and then of course wiping on second phase. The finger-pointing and mud-slinging after any mistake is immediate and intense.
And then you have your regular trolls any MMO community has, spewing offensive stuff in party chat just to gain a reaction, pulling adds/bosses and leaving, etc. - the usual. Oh, and now the leechers. Let us not forget those.
It's seriously disturbing.
I haven't really noticed much of the community since the launch of the game to be honest, I have mostly been playing with people from my FC.
In Phase 3 beta I met some really nice and helpful people, it felt very odd (but refreshing as well) to me to see that sort of thing compared to the typical MMO community. Once Phase 4 and Early Access rolled around though I wasn't seeing as many friendly people. I had some really unpleasant people in duty finder that tried to get the healer killed on purpose for "the lulz", I see people fighting all the time in pug groups and I see people being a bit elitist in their shouts to find people to run Praetorium.
I know not everyone is terrible, so hopefully I will get to run into some of them the next time I pug a group.
If played MMOs since 12 years now and the community here in Final Fantasy XIV really is the bottom in regard of manners, etiquette and acquaintance.
That makes me really sad because I expected a great community, as all this legacys and FFXI-Veterans always claimed they would be. But this is really a sad sad picture.
People do not talk to each others, not even say hello like their mother should have teached them. they scream in panic and rant and rave at each other even for absolut trivia matters, like the Tank pulled a skipable mob in castrum. I couldn't belive it to see that. What the hell is wrong with this people?
What makes it the ultimate tragedy is Square Enix's refusal to see this comming. It's NOT possible to kick flaming people, it is NOT possible to right click and add to black list them in chat. What did SE think? That in this game we would be all laughing and joy around being friends and never have a quarrel? We can invite them to our friend list with right click but not block them? Please finally add a possibility to vote-kick flaming bastards, maybe we can teach those rude people that we won't accept a behavior like this.
The 1.0 beta had a really nice and polite community. Based upon my observation of 2.0, the community reminds me of the exact same as WoW's. However, I consider Aion's community to be the worst. Even their CM's/GM's treat posters terribly.
Heh, you should check out the Neverwinter forums!
I haven't had much a problem thus far. Did my first CM and found myself in a quick run group, they weren't too bad really. Have yet to meet the special ones though.
