WoW has done it for years. Faction/Appearance/Server Transfers were all in the same category.

No, of course not. It was a simple appearance change, with a high price to discourage people from constantly changing.

And how is this service any different than say race change in warcraft? I don't see anyone complaining about that. It's purely optional service just like server change. I'd be happy for having a race change option with ingame currency but i'll take what i can get.

I recall there was/is going to be a hairdresser in the game at some point, which works with ingame currency.

I don't see what the problem is. An optional service has nothing to do with cash shops which are a revenue for free games. I highly doubt S-E would sell items that would have impact on the game balance in any way. Some of you are making this a bigger issue than it actually is.

Why does it need to be such an ordeal? Is appearance changing so important that people shouldn't be allowed to change their looks when they desire? People should be able to adjust their appearance much as they want, especially since the game promotes the use of a single character. As long as there is a currency exchange why does it matter what kind?

I guess I feel like the characters we make are our identity. The people we meet will recognize us based on the race, looks and name. Now, the name is by far the most easily identifying factor - and the Fantasia doesn't allow change to that - but I still feel like if the potion is distributed in an in-game store, it can undermine our sense of identity.

However, I certainly see the need for a fix if you ever regret a design-choice made during the frantic fight to just get ON the darn servers during launch-week. We could easily look to the veteran-rewards as a great way to distribute a flagon of Fantasia. Maybe every 12 months? Its rare enough to actually put some thought into how you use it, but frequent enough to still allow for a change when you're really tired of that look.

Also, I'd love Hairdresser-NPC shops. I put a lot of thought into how I want my characters so I'm generally pretty happy with them, but even I would like the option to change my hairstyle now and then :)

Not it is not fine in the slightest. F2p cash shops garbage do not belong here.

It's not a "cash shop," it's an account-level service. Do you consider paid server transfers to be a cash shop item as well?

I am completely in favor of this. Other games have had these kinds of services for years, and it's only a good thing. People can play as the character they want to play as, with the name they want to play as, without stressing out about losing everything they've ever done by having to start all over. This isn't microtransactions, this isn't pay-to-win, this isn't even paid cosmetic gear or vanity pets.

The race change service is going to be in the Mogstation eventually. It's bound to happen and people will pay for it. As much as i want everything included in my monthly sub i know it's not going to happen.

A fantasia potion in no way harms the game. Unless you call changing your race to get a 2pt stat advantage over a mistake in your original race decision game breaking. Also, an item shop selling something like a Fantasia Potion would be a great way for SE to make additional Money. And really, it's logically no different than paid services. E.g. SE has also had the ability to go into account management and pay for additional services. It's basically the same concept, except instead of having it as a paid service they throw it in the item mall. They could add other things as well,

-Fantasia Potion (30 day cooldown) $30 cost (unlimitted uses)
-Server Transfer Item (30 day cooldown) $25
-In game useless items like Fireworks and (follow you) minions

SE could make a lot of side money from something like that and still be subscription based, unable to buy anything in the shop or even play without an active subscription. And they could make more money than what their subscriptions roll in because I know many players will pay for things like the above, if anything, just to help out SE.

Buying it with gil would be fine by me too. I'm just glad we got one free.

Oh, don't get me wrong.
I really want this option available. I just believe that if it were purchased with Gil or Seals it would be too easy to obtain.

It's proven that expensive Character Changes/World Transfers discourage people from doing it constantly, especially if there was a cool-down on it.


I just personally prefer a real world currency exchange for this service, as almost every MMO that offers this service does the same.
