Yeah, I think everyone's hoping for the latter. Otherwise the worlds with 1017 problems will continue to happen. It would also help with world shrinkage after the honeymoon period is over and people don't log in as often. The newest worlds would be quite empty at that point.

Thumb up you for the use of Stockholm Syndrome. Sad but true, SE did screwed up, to make matters worse, it is the second time they did it, after a well known crash and burn of 1.0. I still stand by setting a release date is the dumbest idea of all. Seriously SE Marketing Team/whoever made the decision... is it worth it? No wait.. somebody else takes the blame.

Regarding server capacity, I heard somewhere that it was at 3000 (sorry, no reference). My guess is this isn't what they are increasing because it wasn't the worlds that were breaking, rather the shared Duty Servers.

They should have a queue for the duty servers themselves. Cap the number of people, and then limit the login. This would let people play in the general world and also prevent overloading this system.

Regarding the queue vs full world error, it is a login queue, not a world queue. Too many logins at the same time will DoS the server. So when the world is actually full, they don't have a queue. Is this a bad design? sure. But that is the difference between the two. I do agree that they should modify the queue to have a login queue AND an actual world queue. Then make it so you have to click OK or something when the queue pops to confirm you are still sitting in front of the screen. (To see an example of this go play League of Legends during high volume time).

And what about the preorders that got canceled, because some people wanted multiple preorder codes without multiple game codes? What about the amount of returning 1.0 players that didn't bought the game a second time?

Really hope they dont increase the server capacity too much. The servers already feel a bit crowded. Rather see the numbers of servers increase along with a smaller increase in number of ppl allowed on each server at once.

You cant have alot of people restricted to when they can play just to please a minority. At moment many people are annoyed because they can only play in off hours when the decent people actually log out instead of being rude entitled little sods who afk all night. Me for instance, I can only play now in evening AU time. because so many NA afk like children to afraid to log off.

I understand why popele are angry, its just the young ones who are screaming hate towards the JP an making threats etc. Those of us with an IQ over the...well anyway I dont want to get banned.... lets just say rest of us understand but it doesn't make us less annoyed.
They NEED to open the servers up so people can get in. for 3 days many of us have been blocked form playing or even making new chars on our fav servers because of this. I get that those who are able to play dont give a damn, but rest of us paid for the game too. This system can not be used for long term if they expect to retail player base.

From which point in time? Places take preorders pretty well up to the day before release. How do you guess how many 1.0 players are coming back? How many pre-orders will be cancelled? What is 'a reasonable precentage'? What sort of playing habits do they have (can you assume approx. 16 hours a day per user)?

It's easy to say that it's easy. It's hard to actually do it.

Toss on that these things cost money and require time to set up, train the data center staff on etc... it's nowhere *near* as simple as people are making it sound.

Thank you very much for this. While it is disheartening to not be able to log into the game, I understand that there is more involved than a couple meetings and discussions of what to do. I am guessing the delay involved the receiving of hardware and its installation? Please, take your time with this! As a former Everquest 1 & 2 player, I know that a rocky launch is the norm. Thank you for keeping us in the loop. To me this is just as important as correcting the issues!
