^ Were you absent since launch? The whole game in and of itself was littered with issues and "of bad design." Saying this now, several months down the road, when it's known the issue is being worked on, is a little silly.

Sorry, didn't have time to read through all the arguments.
The problem I see with 5 min buffs is not the casting every 5 mins. It's the getting a party of people to stand still in a cluster every 5 mins and not just run to the next mob. Even during combat parties spread out due to ranges and positioning for optimized damage and defending. With 30 min buffs like we've seen in XI and many other MMOs, it is much easier to get people gathered once in a while vs every few mins. The 5 min buff would have worked better in XI anyway due to the nature of camping and use of a puller. But the very nature of XIV is for the party to be mobile and just the organization of getting everyone to move in the same direction can be quite challenging as it is, ha ha.

Yes please!!! With the old system, this made since, but with the new one, casting it every five minutes is annoying... What would be excellent with these changes, would be to introduce new spells that were short buff spells, etc.
So in short, we need more spells and abilities, as well as make the ones we currently have last much longer... You can increase the MP cost of those abilities too, I don't mine. :)
Protect + shell should last 10 minutes and not pull more hate than provoke or taunt.
Shock spike should last 5 minutes
Stygian spike and stoneskin should last 3 minutes.
Also, THM and CON should have like a rnk 25 quest that teaches them an ability that lasts 1 minute (10 minute CD) and doubles the length of these buffs when casted under the effects of this ability.
Now I'm no fan for necro'ing old threads, but I was about to post something about this. I personally feel buffs like protect and shell should be at least 20 minutes. I'm surprised more people don't feel the same way...
