Q16: In the previous broadcast, you mentioned that the materia system would be largely changing, but could you tell us some details on this?

A16: The equipment in A Realm Reborn will have sockets, and you will be able to place materia into these sockets without failure. We are calling any attempts to add further materia beyond the set number of sockets "forbidden," (what we referred to as multiple melding) but if you fail at this in A Realm Reborn you will not lose your equipment. We will also be addressing this so imbalances do not arise with gear that has been melded with multiple materia in version 1.0. We will let you know further information as we move toward release.

This is basically what many people were asking for and then some. Equipment to have set sockets, but they added the ability to still go beyond that with a chance of failing, with no equipment loss. A much better materia system. Much better than simply raising the meld rates.

Agreed, very disappointing news. For people who are excited about FATE just youtube GW2 or Rift live-action events to get a better understanding of why some are leery of the idea. I'm not even saying they're bad, and i'm certainly not advocating to bring back claimable stuff but something other than FATEonri would have been nice. Even if the FATE's lead to instanced dungeons with HQ mobs, there will be zero competition and based on my experience with online gaming that is the one thing players are looking for. All imho of course.

I actually was surprised and disappointed at this too when I first heard it. Many people want to do open world for the flexibility, the inventiveness of strategy and the sudden surprise of finding something wandering around the world.

However, while these good aspects of openworld content seem great at the beginning, over time, it just becomes a camp fest where people have to sit around or have mules sit around a specific area for something they want to pop and they can't do anything else. Also it becomes a Claim Contest where people try to be the best at claiming. MPK starts happening, hate gets stolen, people start using claim bots. I didn't play XI so I didn't realize what a pain open world content was when it was very valuable.

Many people have very bad memories of this kind of openworld content.

So the FATE system takes away the need (at least most of it) to have claim on a single monster by a person or group. It allows for rewards based on participation while at the same time, keeping things openworld. There will still be open world content, but it will be regulated by FATE because it needs to be for it to be most enjoyable.

But most of the endgame content will be Instanced dungeons. 16-18 will be available at launch. There is a high ceiling for endgame with Primals, then Crystal Tower, than Bahamut's labyrinth.

There's just no need to have valuable drops from rare popping mobs that caused so much misery and so little joy in FFXI and in other games.

EDIT: If it's competition you want, I will be happy to challenge you to PvP.

La Noscea looks amazing. I totally want to sit in one of those beach chairs on that pier and just chillax.

I'm loving the new La Noscea. I loved it before they blew it up, but this is amazing. Pfft to the new shroud, La Noscea looks way better :) We gets a beach baby. Glad Limsa Lominsa extended to the lands along the coast too instead of being way out there after an extremely long bridge.

Can't wait to run through Limsa again T^T

That beach area looks like a hotel resort! Like it a lot! :3

FATE= Full Active Time Events

Keyword here is "Events" Just because he says FATES are the only Open world content, FATEs could have many meanings to it than we know. There could be a variety of Events ( FAT*E*), that make Open world content full of life. =). Just food for thought :D.

I'm actually shocked my question got answered regarding Coerthas and Mor Dhona :O
